1 I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more. 2 I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, God’s dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away."

5 He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." He said, "Write, for these words of God are faithful and true." 6 He said to me, "I am the Alef and the Tav, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. 7 He who overcomes, I will give him these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. 8 But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls, who were loaded with the seven last plagues came, and he spoke with me, saying, "Come here. I will show you the wife, the Lamb’s bride." 10 He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, as if it were a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12 having a great and high wall; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. 13 On the east were three gates; and on the north three gates; and on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them twelve names of the twelve Emissaries of the Lamb. 15 He who spoke with me had for a measure a golden reed to measure the city, its gates, and its walls. 16 The city is square, and its length is as great as its width. He measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand twelve stadia. Its length, width, and height are equal. 17 Its wall is one hundred forty-four cubits, by the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. 18 The construction of its wall was jasper. The city was pure gold, like pure glass. 19 The foundations of the city’s wall were adorned with all kinds of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; 20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; and the twelfth, amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each one of the gates was made of one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. 22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple. 23 The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk in its light. The kings of the earth bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. 25 Its gates will in no way be shut by day (for there will be no night there), 26 and they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it so that they may enter. 27 There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

1 Então vi um novo céu e uma nova Terra porque o velho céu e a velha Terra tinham desaparecido, e o mar também já não existe.2 E depois vi, eu próprio, a cidade santa, a nova Jerusalém, que descia do céu, de junto de Deus, esplendidamente bela, como uma noiva no dia do casamento.3 E ouvi uma voz muito forte, que vinha do trono, dizendo: Eis que a morada de Deus é agora entre o seu povo! Ele habitará com eles e eles serão o seu povo. Deus mesmo estará com eles.4 Limpará de seus olhos toda a lágrima e não haverá mais morte; nem haverá tristeza, nem choro nem dor. Tudo isto pertence, para sempre, ao passado.5 E o que estava sentado sobre o trono disse: Estou a fazer tudo de novo! E dirigindo-se a mim acrescentou: Escreve o que te vou dizer, porque são palavras verdadeiras e dignas de toda a confiança.6 E depois disse assim: Está tudo cumprido! Eu sou o A e o Z - a origem e o fim. Àquele que tem sede, darei de graça a beber da fonte da água da vida!d7 O que vencer receberá o benefício de todas estas coisas. E eu serei o seu Deus e ele será meu filho.-8 Mas quanto aos cobardes e aos incrédulos, quanto aos corruptos e aos assassinos, aos que praticam a imoralidade, aos que se entregam a bruxarias, aos que se dão à idolatria, e a todos os que falam mentira, o seu destino será o lago que arde com fogo e enxofre. Isso é a segunda morte.9 Então um dos sete anjos que tinham derramado as taças que continham as sete últimas pragas dirigiu-se a mim e disse: Vem comigo para que te mostre a noiva, a esposa do Cordeiro.10 E levou-me em espírito a uma montanha muito alta. De lá vi aquela magnífica cidade, a santa Jerusalém. E vinha descendo do céu, de junto de Deus,11 com a glória do Senhor; cintilava com o fulgor de uma pedra muito preciosa de jaspe, transparente como o mais puro cristal12 Tinha muralhas largas e altas, e doze entradas guardadas por doze anjos.13 E em cada porta de entrada estava escrito o nome de uma das doze tribos de Israel. E em cada um dos lados da cidade havia três portas, a norte, a sul, a leste e a oeste.14 As suas muralhas repousavam sobre doze alicerces, nas quais estavam escritos os nomes dos doze apóstolos do Cordeiro.15 O anjo que falava comigo tinha na mão uma vara de ouro e com ela mediu a cidade, a muralha e as portas.16 E como era um quadrado, tinha todos os seus lados de igual medida; aliás, tinha de facto a forma de um cubo, porque o seu comprimento e largura e altura eram os mesmos: 2.220 quilómetros.-17 Mediu também a espessura das muralhas, que era de 65 metros. O anjo utilizou as medidas vulgares usadas entre os homens.18 A própria cidade era de ouro puro, e transparente como o vidro mais cristalino!19 As muralhas eram de jaspe e os fundamentos sobre que assentavam estavam incrustados de pedras preciosas, cada um com a sua qualidade de pedra: o primeiro era de jaspe, o segundo de safira, o terceiro de calcedónia, o quarto de esmeralda,20 o quinto de sardónica, o sexto de sárdio, o sétimo de crisólito, o oitavo de berilo, o nono de topázio, o décimo de crisópraso, o décimo primeiro de jacinto e o décimo segundo de ametista.21 E as doze portas eram feitas de pérolas; cada porta era de uma só pérola! A praça principal da cidade era toda ela de ouro puro, cintilante como vidro de cristal.22 Não vi nela templo nenhum, porque o Senhor Deus todo-poderoso e o Cordeiro, sempre ali presentes, é que são o seu templo.23 A cidade não precisa nem de Sol nem de Lua, porque a glória de Deus a ilumina - o Cordeiro é a sua luz.24 Essa luz da cidade iluminará as nações da Terra, e os governantes virão entregar-lhe as suas honrarias.25 As portas nunca se fecharão, até porque lá nunca haverá noite!x26 E tudo o que faz a glória e a honra das nações será trazido ali.27 Nada de impuro entrará nela; ninguém que cometa o mal e sirva a mentira será admitido. Só terão acesso a ela aqueles cujos nomes estão escritos no livro da vida do Cordeiro.
