1 He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them. 2 Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

3 He answered, "What did Moses command you?"

4 They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."

5 But Yeshua said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. 7 For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

10 In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter. 11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. 12 If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."

13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. 14 But when Yeshua saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. 15 Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it." 16 He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

17 As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Rabbi, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"

18 Yeshua said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’"

20 He said to him, "Rabbi, I have observed all these things from my youth."

21 Yeshua looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."

22 But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions. 23 Yeshua looked around, and said to his disciples, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!"

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Yeshua answered again, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter into God’s Kingdom! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom."

26 They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"

27 Yeshua, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."

28 Peter began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you."

29 Yeshua said, "Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, 30 but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last; and the last first."

32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Yeshua was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him. 33 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles. 34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."

35 Jacob and Yochanan, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, "Rabbi, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."

36 He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"

37 They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory."

38 But Yeshua said to them, "You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?"

39 They said to him, "We are able."

Yeshua said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with; 40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."

41 When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant toward Jacob and Yochanan.

42 Yeshua summoned them, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all. 45 For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

46 They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Yeshua the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, "Yeshua, you son of David, have mercy on me!" 48 Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, "You son of David, have mercy on me!"

49 Yeshua stood still, and said, "Call him."

They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!"

50 He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Yeshua.

51 Yeshua asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?"

The blind man said to him, "Rabboni, that I may see again."

52 Yeshua said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight, and followed Yeshua on the way.

1 Jesus saiu de Cafarnaum e seguiu para o sul, para os limites da Judeia e para a região a nascente do rio Jordão. Acorreram multidões a ouvi-lo e, como sempre, ele ensinava-as.2 Apareceram alguns fariseus que lhe perguntaram: Permites o divórcio?, na mira de o apanharem numa armadilha.3 Que disse Moisés sobre o divórcio?, Jesus perguntou-lhes.4 Disse que era permitido; que um homem pode entregar à mulher uma carta de divórcio, e mandá-la embora.5 E porque disse ele isso? Jesus acrescentou: Mas eu próprio vos direi porquê: por causa da dureza do vosso coração.6 No entanto, não foi nada assim que Deus estabeleceu, porque logo desde o princípio criou o homem e a mulher para se unirem para sempre no casamento7 Portanto, o homem deve deixar pai e mãe, e ele e a esposa ficarão tão unidos que não são dois, mas um só.9 E nenhum homem deve separar o que Deus juntou.10 Mais tarde, estando sozinho com os discípulos em casa, estes tornaram a falar naquele assunto, e disse-lhes: Quando um homem se divorcia da mulher para se casar com outra, comete adultério contra ela12 E se a mulher se divorciar do marido e se casar outra vez, também comete adultério.13 Certa vez, quando lhe traziam meninos para que os abençoasse, os discípulos repeliam-nas, dizendo que não o incomodassem.14 Mas, ao ver isto, Jesus ficou muito descontente: Deixem as crianças virem a mim, porque o reino de Deus pertence a quem é como elas. Não as mandem embora!c15 E isto é muito importante: todo aquele que recusar vir a Deus como uma criancinha não poderá entrar no seu reino.16 E, tomando as crianças nos seus braços, pôs-lhe as mãos sobre a cabeça e abençoou-as carinhosamente.17 Quando Jesus se punha a caminho para sair dali, um homem correu para ele, ajoelhou-se e perguntou: Bom Mestre, que devo fazer para ganhar o céu?18 Porque me chamas bom? Só Deus o é verdadeiramente. Mas, respondendo à tua pergunta, conheces os mandamentos: não matar, não cometer adultério, não roubar, não mentir, não enganar, respeitar pai e mãe.20 Mestre, o homem replicou, desde pequeno que tenho guardado todas essas leis.21 Ao olhar para aquele homem, Jesus sentiu uma afeição profunda por ele: Falta-te uma coisa só: vende tudo o que tens, dá o dinheiro aos pobres e terás um tesouro no céu. Depois vem e segue-me.22 O rosto do homem anuviou-se, e foi-se embora triste, porque era muito rico.23 Jesus voltando-se, disse aos discípulos: É quase impossível um rico entrar no reino de Deus!24 Estas palavras deixaram-nos espantados, e Jesus explicou: Meus queridos filhos, é muito difícil para quem confia nas riquezas entrar no reino de Deus! É mais fácil um camelo passar pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no reino de Deus!26 Os discípulos, porém nem podiam acreditar: Então quem é que neste mundo poderá salvar-se?27 Jesus fixou neles o olhar e disse: Sem Deus, é de todo em todo impossível. Mas com Deus, tudo é possível.28 Pedro começou a falar em tudo aquilo que ele e os outros discípulos tinham abandonado: Tudo deixámos para te seguir.29 E Jesus respondeu: Posso afirmar-vos que nunca ninguém abandonou lar, irmãos, irmãs, mãe, pai, filhos ou bens, por amor de mim e para espalhar a boa nova entre os outros, que não recebesse como prémio cem vezes mais em lares, irmãos, irmãs, mães, filhos e terras - mas com perseguições! Tudo isso terá aqui na Terra; e no mundo futuro terá a vida eterna.31 Muitas pessoas, que parecem importantes agora, serão as menos importantes então, e muitos dos que são aqui considerados menores lá serão os maiores.32 Caminhavam já para Jerusalém e Jesus ia andando à frente. Os discípulos estavam preocupados e as pessoas que seguiram atrás estavam cheios de medo. Jesus, então, levou à parte os doze discípulos e tornou a falar-lhes sobre tudo o que ia acontecer-lhes quando chegassem a Jerusalém:33 Quando lá chegarmos, eu, o Filho do Homem, serei traído e levado à presença dos principais sacerdotes e dos mestres da lei, que me condenarão à morte e me entregarão aos romanos para ser executado. Farão troça de mim, hão-de cuspir-me, açoitar-me-ão a chicote, e matar-me-ão; mas três dias depois voltarei a viver.35 Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, disseram-lhe: Mestre, queremos pedir-te um favor.36 Qual é?, perguntou-lhes.37 No teu reino queremos sentar-nos ao teu lado, um à tua direita e o outro à tua esquerda.38 Mas Jesus respondeu:Vocês não sabem o que me pedem! Serão capazes de beber da taça amarga que me espera? Ou de receber o baptismo de sofrimento com o qual devo ser baptizado?39 Somos, sim, disseram Jesus disse-lhes: Realmente, beberão da minha taça e serão baptizados com o meu baptismo, mas não depende de mim o sentar-vos em tronos próximos do meu. Esses lugares já foram estabelecidos por Deus.41 Quando os outros discípulos souberam o que Tiago e João tinham pedido, ficaram irritados;42 por isso Jesus os chamou para perto de si e lhes disse: Como sabem, quem manda no povo são aqueles que têm poder e os grandes usam de autoridade sobre eles,43 mas no vosso meio não será assim. Quem quiser ser grande entre vocês deve servir-vos.44 E quem quiser ser o maior de todos deverá ser criado de todos. Porque até eu, o Filho do Homem, não estou aqui para ser servido, mas para servir e dar a minha vida para resgatar muitos.46 Entretanto, chegaram a Jericó. Quando, mais tarde, deixavam a cidade, seguia-os grande multidão, e aconteceu que um pedinte cego, chamado Bartimeu, filho de Timeu, estava sentado junto à estrada na altura em que Jesus passava. Quando Bartimeu soube que Jesus de Nazaré vinha perto, começou a gritar: Jesus, filho do rei David, tem misericórdia de mim!48 Cala-te, diziam-lhe algumas pessoas. Mas ele gritava cada vez mais alto, sem se calar:Ó filho de David, tem misericórdia de mim!49 Jesus, ouvindo-o, parou no meio da estrada e mandou: Digam-lhe que venha aqui. E chamaram-no: És um homem com sorte; vai que ele chamou-te.50 Bartimeu despiu a capa que trazia, atirou-a para um lado, pôs-se de pé de um salto e encaminhou-se na direcção de Jesus.51 Que queres que te faça?, perguntou Jesus.Mestre, quero ver!52 Está bem. A tua fé curou-te. E no mesmo instante o cego começou a ver. E foi atrás de Jesus pela estrada fora.
