| 1 | Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you; | Végezetre imádkozzatok értünk atyámfiai, hogy az Úrnak beszéde terjedjen és dicsõíttessék, a miként ti köztetek is. |
| 2 | And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. | És hogy meneküljünk meg az alkalmatlan és gonosz emberektõl. Mert nem mindenkié a hit! |
| 3 | But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and keep you from evil. | De hû az Úr, a ki megerõsít titeket és megõriz a gonosztól. |
| 4 | And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. | Bízunk is az Úrban reátok nézve, hogy megteszitek és meg is fogjátok tenni azokat, a miket parancsolunk. |
| 5 | And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. | Az Úr pedig igazgassa a ti szíveteket az Isten iránt való szeretetre, és Krisztus iránt való állhatatosságra. |
| 6 | Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received from us. | A mi Urunk Jézus Krisztus nevében pedig, rendeljük néktek, atyámfiai, hogy vonjátok el magatokat minden atyafitól, a ki rendetlenül él, és nem ama utasítás szerint, a melyet mi tõlünk kapott. |
| 7 | For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; | Magatok is tudjátok, mimódon kell minket követni; mert nem viseltük magunkat közöttetek rendetlenül. |
| 8 | Neither did we eat any man's bread for naught; but wrought with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: | Sem ingyen kenyeret nem ettünk senkinél, hanem munkával és fáradsággal, éjjel-nappal dolgozva, hogy közületek senkinek se legyünk terhére. |
| 9 | Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves a pattern to you to follow us. | Nem azért, mintha nem volna rá jogunk, hanem hogy magunkat például adjuk néktek, hogy minket kövessetek. |
| 10 | For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. | Mert a mikor nálatok voltunk is, azt rendeltük néktek, hogy ha valaki nem akar dolgozni, ne is egyék. |
| 11 | For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busy-bodies. | Mert halljuk, hogy némelyek rendetlenül élnek közületek, a kik semmit nem dolgoznak, hanem nyughatatlankodnak. |
| 12 | Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. | Az ilyeneknek azonban rendeljük és kérjük õket a mi Urunk Jézus Krisztusra, hogy csendesen munkálkodva, a magok kenyerét egyék. |
| 13 | But ye, brethren, be not weary in well-doing. | Ti pedig, atyámfiai, meg ne restüljetek a jó cselekvésben. |
| 14 | And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. | Ha pedig valaki nem engedelmeskedik a mi levél által való beszédünknek, azt jegyezzétek meg; és ne társalkodjatok vele, hogy megszégyenüljön. |
| 15 | Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. | De ne tartsátok ellenségnek, hanem intsétek, mint atyafit. |
| 16 | Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all. | Maga pedig a békességnek Ura adjon néktek mindenkor minden tekintetben békességet. Az Úr [legyen] mindnyájatokkal! |
| 17 | The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. | A köszöntést én Pál [írom] a saját kezemmel, a mi ismertetõ jegye minden levelemnek. Így írok. |
| 18 | The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. | A mi Urunk Jézus Krisztusnak kegyelme mindnyájatokkal! Ámen. |
