| 1 | Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah. | A Gileádból való Jefte pedig nagy hõs volt, és [egy] parázna asszonynak volt a fia, s Jeftét Gileád nemzette. |
| 2 | And Gilead's wife bore him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said to him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman. | De [mikor] Gileádnak a felesége [is] szült néki fiakat, és megnõttek az õ feleségének fiai: akkor elûzték Jeftét és azt mondták néki: Nem fogsz örökösödni atyánknak házában, mert más asszonynak vagy a fia. |
| 3 mapa | Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and they went out with him. | És elfutott Jefte az õ atyjafiai elõl, és Tób földén telepedett meg, és henyélõ emberek gyûltek össze Jefte körül, és együtt portyáztak. |
| 4 | And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel. | És történt napok mulva, hogy az Ammon fiai harczba keveredtek Izráellel. |
| 5 mapa | And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah out of the land of Tob: | És lõn, hogy a mint harczolni [kezdtek] az Ammon fiai Izráellel, Gileád vénei elmentek, hogy visszahozzák Jeftét a Tób földérõl. |
| 6 | And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. | És mondának Jeftének: Jer el, és légy nékünk fejedelmünk, és harczoljunk az Ammon fiai ellen. |
| 7 mapa | And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did ye not hate me, and expel me from my father's house; and why have ye come to me now when ye are in distress? | Jefte pedig monda Gileád véneinek: Avagy nem ti vagytok-é, a kik engem meggyûlöltetek, és kiûztetek atyámnak házából? És miért jöttetek most hozzám a ti nyomorúságtoknak idején? |
| 8 mapa | And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead. | És mondának Gileád vénei Jeftének: Azért fordultunk most hozzád, hogy jõjj el velünk, és hadakozzál az Ammon fiai ellen, és légy mi nékünk fejünk, és Gileád minden lakosinak. |
| 9 mapa | And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head? | És monda Jefte Gileád véneinek: Ha visszavisztek engem, hogy hadakozzam az Ammon fiai ellen, és kezembe adja õket az Úr: [igazán] fejetekké leszek? |
| 10 mapa | And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, The LORD be a witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words. | Akkor mondának Gileád vénei Jeftének: Az Úr a tanúnk, ha a te beszéded szerint nem cselekeszünk! |
| 11 mapa | Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh. | És elment Jefte Gileád véneivel, és a nép a maga fejévé és fejedelmévé tette õt. És megmondá Jefte minden beszédit az Úr elõtt Mispában. |
| 12 | And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou hast come against me to fight in my land? | És követeket küldött Jefte az Ammon fiainak királyához, [ezt] izenvén: Mi dolgom van nékem veled, hogy hozzám jöttél, hogy hadakozzál az én földem ellen? |
| 13 mapa | And the king of the children of Ammon answered to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came out of Egypt, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and to Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably. | És monda az Ammon fiainak királya Jefte követeinek: Mert elvette Izráel az én földemet, mikor Égyiptomból feljött, az Arnontól fogva Jabbókig és a Jordánig, most te add azokat vissza békességgel. |
| 14 | And Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon: | Ismét külde pedig Jefte követeket az Ammon fiainak királyához; |
| 15 mapa | And said to him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon: | És monda néki: Ezt izeni Jefte: Nem vette el Izráel sem a Moáb földét, sem az Ammon fiainak földét; |
| 16 mapa | But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness to the Red sea, and came to Kadesh; | Mert mikor kijött Égyiptomból, a pusztában bolyongott Izráel egész a Veres tengerig, és mikor Kádesbe ért, |
| 17 mapa | Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken to it. And in like manner they sent to the king of Moab; but he would not consent. And Israel abode in Kadesh. | Követeket küldött Izráel Edom királyához, mondván: Hadd menjek át, kérlek, országodon; de Edom királya nem hallgatta meg. Majd Moáb királyához is küldött; de ez sem engedé, és [így] Izráel ott maradt Kádesben. |
| 18 mapa | Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab. | És mikor [tovább] vándorolt a pusztában, megkerülte Edom földét és Moáb földét, és napkelet felõl érkezett a Moáb földéhez, és [ott] táborozott túl az Arnonon; de Moáb határába nem ment be, mert az Arnon Moáb határa. |
| 19 mapa | And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land to my place. | Ekkor követeket küldött Izráel Szihonhoz, az Emoreusok királyához, Hesbon királyához, és monda néki Izráel: Hadd menjek át, kérlek, országodon az én helyemre. |
| 20 mapa | But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon collected all his people, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel. | De Szihon nem hitt Izráelnek, hogy átvonul az õ határán, hanem összegyûjtötte Szihon az õ egész népét, és táborba szállott Jahásban, és harczolt az Izráel ellen. |
| 21 | And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country. | Az Úr, az Izráel Istene pedig Szihont és egész népét Izráel kezébe adta, és megverték õket, és elfoglalta Izráel az Emoreusoknak, ama föld lakóinak, egész országát. |
| 22 mapa | And they possessed all the borders of the Amorites, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to Jordan. | És birtokába vette az Emoreusok egész határát, az Arnontól fogva Jabbókig, és a pusztától a Jordánig. |
| 23 | So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldst thou possess it? | És mikor az Úr, az Izráel Istene [maga] ûzte ki az Emoreusokat az õ népe, az Izráel elõl, most te akarnád ezt elfoglalni? |
| 24 | Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess. | Hát nem úgy van-é, hogy a mit bírnod adott néked Kámos, a te istened, azt bírod? Mi meg mindazoknak örökségét bírjuk, a kiket az Úr, a mi Istenünk ûzött ki mi elõlünk. |
| 25 mapa | And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them, | És most vajjon mennyivel vagy te különb Báláknál, Czippor fiánál, Moáb királyánál? Avagy versengett-é [ez] az Izráellel, és hadakozott-é valaha ellenük? |
| 26 mapa | While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that are along by the borders of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time? | Míg Izráel Hesbonban és annak mezõvárosaiban, Aroerben és ennek mezõvárosaiban és az Arnon mellett való összes városokban háromszáz esztendõn át lakott: miért nem foglaltátok el abban az idõben? |
| 27 mapa | Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon. | Én nem vétettem te ellened, hanem te cselekszel velem gonoszt, hogy harczolsz ellenem. Az Úr, a biró, tegyen ma ítéletet az Izráel és az Ammon fiai között. |
| 28 | But, the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah which he sent him. | De az Ammon fiainak királya nem hallgatott Jefte szavaira, a melyeket izent néki. |
| 29 mapa | Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon. | Jeftén pedig lõn az Úrnak lelke, és általméne Gileádon és Manassén, és általméne Gileád Mispén, és Gileád Mispébõl felvonult az Ammon fiai ellen. |
| 30 | And Jephthah vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into my hands, | És fogadást tõn Jefte az Úrnak, és monda: Ha mindenestõl kezembe adod az Ammon fiait: |
| 31 | Then it shall be, that whatever cometh out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it for a burnt-offering. | Akkor valami kijövénd az én házamnak ajtaján elõmbe, mikor békével visszatérek az Ammon fiaitól, legyen az Úré, és megáldozom azt egészen égõáldozatul. |
| 32 | So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands. | És kivonult Jefte az Ammon fiai ellen, hogy hadakozzék velök, és kezébe adá néki azokat az Úr. |
| 33 mapa | And he smote them from Aroer even till thou comest to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. | És veré õket Aroertõl fogva mindaddig, míg mennél Minnithbe, húsz városon át, és egész Abel-Keraminig nagy vérontással, és az Ammon fiai megaláztattak az Izráel fiai elõtt. |
| 34 mapa | And Jephthah came to Mizpeh to his house, and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter. | Mikor pedig méne Jefte Mispába az õ házához: ímé az õ leánya jött ki eleibe dobokkal és tánczoló sereggel; ez volt az õ egyetlenegyje, mert nem volt néki [kivülötte] sem fia, sem leánya. |
| 35 | And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth to the LORD, and I cannot go back. | És mikor meglátta õt, megszaggatá ruháit, és monda: Óh leányom, de megszomorítottál és megháborítottál engem! Mert én fogadást tettem az Úrnak, és nem vonhatom vissza. |
| 36 | And she said to him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth to the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thy enemies, even of the children of Ammon. | Az pedig monda néki: Atyám, ha fogadást tettél az Úrnak, úgy cselekedjél velem, a mint fogadtad, miután az Úr megadta az ellenségiden: az Ammon fiain való bosszút. |
| 37 | And she said to her father, Let this thing be done for me: Let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows. | És monda az õ atyjának: Csak azt az egyet tedd meg nékem; ereszsz el engem két hónapra, hadd menjek el és vonulhassak félre a hegyekre, hogy sírjak szûzességemen leánybarátaimmal. |
| 38 | And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains. | És õ monda: Menj el. És elbocsátá õt két hónapra. Az pedig elment és az õ leánybarátai, és siratta az õ szûzességét a hegyeken. |
| 39 | And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel, | És a két hónap elteltével visszatért atyjához, és betöltötte az õ felõle való fogadást, a melyet tett, és õ [soha] nem ismert férfiút. És szokássá lett Izráelben, |
| 40 | That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year. | Hogy esztendõnként elmentek az Izráel leányai, hogy dicsõítsék a gileádbeli Jefte leányát esztendõnként négy napon át. |
