| 2 | Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing of it;) | Csak azért, hogy az Izráel fiainak nemzetségei megismerjék, hogy tanítsa õket hadakozásra, csak azokat, a kik azelõtt ezt nem tudták: |
| 3 mapa | Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt on mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon to the entrance of Hamath. | A Filiszteusok öt fejedelemsége, a Kananeusok mindnyájan, és a Sidoniusok, meg a Khivveusok, a kik a Libánon hegyén laknak, a Baálhermon hegyétõl fogva Hamath bemeneteléig. |
| 4 | And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken to the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. | Kik azért hagyattak meg, hogy megkísértse általok az Úr Izráelt, hogy meglássa, vajjon engedelmeskednek-é az Úr parancsolatainak melyeket parancsolt az õ atyáiknak Mózes által? |
| 5 | And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites: | Így az Izráel fiai a Kananeusok, Khitteusok, Emoreusok, Perizeusok, Khivveusok és Jebuzeusok között laktak, |
| 6 | And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods. | És azok leányait vették magoknak feleségül, a saját leányaikat pedig oda adták azok fiainak, és szolgálák azoknak isteneit. |
| 7 | And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served Baalim, and the groves. | És gonoszul cselekedtek az Izráel fiai az Úr szemei elõtt, és elfelejtkezének az Úrról, az õ Istenökrõl, és a Baáloknak és Aseráknak szolgáltak. |
| 8 mapa | Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years. | Ezért felgerjedett az Úrnak haragja az Izráel ellen, és adá õket Kusán- Risathaimnak, Mesopotámia királyának kezébe, és nyolcz évig szolgáltak az Izráel fiai Kusán-Risathaimnak. |
| 9 | And when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. | Ekkor az Úrhoz kiáltának az Izráel fiai, és az Úr szabadítót támasztott az Izráel fiainak, aki megszabadítá õket: Othnielt, Kénáz fiát, Káleb öcscsét. |
| 10 mapa | And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim. | És az Úrnak lelke vala õ rajta, és biráskodott Izráelben, és a mint kiméne a hadra, az Úr kezébe adta Kusán-Risathaimot, Mesopotámia királyát, és ránehezült keze Kusán-Risathaimra. |
| 11 | And the land had rest forty years: and Othniel the son of Kenaz died. | És megnyugovék a föld negyven esztendeig, és meghalt Othniel, a Kénáz fia. |
| 12 mapa | And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD. | De az Izráel fiai ismét gonoszul cselekedének az Úr szemei elõtt, és megerõsítette az Úr Eglont, Moáb királyát Izráel ellen, azért, mert gonoszul cselekedtek az Úrnak szemei elõtt. |
| 13 | And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm-trees. | Ez magához gyûjtötte Ammonnak és Amáleknek fiait, és elment, és megverte Izráelt, és elfoglalták a pálmák városát. |
| 14 mapa | So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. | És szolgálák az Izráel fiai Eglont, a Moáb királyát tizennyolcz esztendeig. |
| 15 mapa | But when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjaminite, a man left-handed: and by him the children of Israel sent a present to Eglon king of Moab. | Ekkor [megint] az Úrhoz kiáltottak Izráel fiai, és az Úr szabadítót támasztott nékik: Ehudot, Gérának fiát, ki Jemininek volt a fia, a ki suta volt. És mikor az Izráel fiai ajándékot küldének általa Eglonnak, Moáb királyának, |
| 16 | But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh. | Ehud szerze magának egy kétélû kardot, egy singnyi hosszút, és azt az õ ruhája alatt a jobb tomporára övezé. |
| 17 mapa | And he brought the present to Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man. | És bemutatá az ajándékot Eglonnak, Moáb királyának. Eglon pedig igen kövér ember vala. |
| 18 | And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bore the present. | És lõn, hogy mikor elvégezé az ajándék bemutatását, elbocsátá az embereket, a kik az ajándékot vitték vala. |
| 19 mapa | But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand to thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him. | Õ maga pedig visszatért a Gilgál közelében lévõ kõbányáktól és monda: Titkos beszédem van veled, óh király! És ez monda: Hallgass! és kimenének elõle mindnyájan, kik állanak vala körülötte. |
| 20 | And Ehud came to him; and he was sitting in a summer-parlor, which he had for himself alone: and Ehud said, I have a message from God to thee. And he arose from his seat. | És Ehud akkor ment be hozzá, mikor épen az õ hûsölõ felházában ült magányosan, és monda Ehud néki: Istennek beszéde van nálam te hozzád. És fölkele [az] a királyi székbõl. |
| 21 | And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly: | Akkor kinyújtá Ehud az õ balkezét, és kirántá kardját a jobb tomporáról, és beleüté azt annak hasába. |
| 22 | And the haft also entered after the blade: and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out. | És beméne még a markolatja is a vasa után és berekeszté a háj a fegyver vasát, mert nem vonta ki a kardot annak hasából, sõt átment annak vékonyán. |
| 23 | Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlor upon him, and locked them. | Általméne pedig Ehud a csarnokon, minekutána bevonta maga után a felház ajtait, és bezárta. |
| 24 | When he had gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlor were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer-chamber. | A mint õ kiméne, jövének annak szolgái, és láták, hogy ímé a felház ajtai be vannak zárva, és mondának: Bizonyára szükségét végzi a hûsölõ kamarájában. |
| 25 | And they tarried till they were ashamed: and behold, he opened not the doors of the parlor, therefore they took a key and opened them: and behold, their lord lay dead on the earth. | De mikor váltig várakoztak és ímé nem nyitotta meg a felház ajtaját, fogák a kulcsot és megnyiták: és ímé az õ urok ott feküdt a földön halva. |
| 26 mapa | And Ehud escaped while they tarried; and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped to Seirath. | Ehud pedig elmenekült vala, míg azok késedelmezének, és elhaladván a kõbányák mellett, Szeiráhba futott. |
| 27 | And it came to pass when he had come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them. | És a mikor [oda] megérkezett, kürtjébe fújt az Efraim hegyén, és alámenének õ vele az Izráel fiai a hegyrõl, és õ elõttük. |
| 28 mapa | And he said to them, Follow me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan towards Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over. | És monda nékik: Jertek utánam, mert kezetekbe adta az Úr a ti ellenségeteket, Moábot. És levonultak õ utána, és elfoglalák a Jordán réveit, [melyek] Moáb felé [vezettek,] és nem engedtek azokon senkit általkelni. |
| 29 | And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valor: and there escaped not a man. | És leöltek a Moábiták közül akkor mintegy tízezer embert, mind erõs és vitéz férfiakat, úgy hogy egy sem menekült el. |
| 30 mapa | So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel: and the land had rest eighty years. | Így aláztatott meg Moáb abban az idõben Izráel keze alatt. És megnyugovék a föld nyolczvan esztendeig. |
| 31 | And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad; and he also delivered Israel. | Õ utána pedig Sámgár, Anáthnak fia volt [bíró], a ki hatszáz Filiszteus férfiút ölt meg egy ökörösztökével, és megszabadítá õ is Izráelt. |
