1 E ouvindo a rainha de Sabá a fama de Salomão, acerca do nome do Senhor, veio prová-lo com questões difíceis.2 E chegou a Jerusalém com uma grande comitiva; com camelos carregados de especiarias, e muitíssimo ouro, e pedras preciosas; e foi a Salomão, e disse-lhe tudo quanto tinha no seu coração.3 E Salomão lhe deu resposta a todas as suas perguntas, nada ficou oculto ao rei.4 Vendo, pois, a rainha de Sabá toda a sabedoria de Salomão, e a casa que edificara,5 E a comida da sua mesa, e o assentar de seus servos, e o estar de seus criados, e as vestes deles, e os seus copeiros, e os holocaustos que ele oferecia na casa do Senhor, ficou fora de si.6 E disse ao rei: Era verdade a palavra que ouvi na minha terra, dos teus feitos e da tua sabedoria.7 E eu não cria naquelas palavras, até que vim e os meus olhos o viram; eis que não me disseram metade; sobrepujaste em sabedoria e bens a fama que ouvi.8 Bem-aventurados os teus homens, bem-aventurados estes teus servos, que estão sempre diante de ti, que ouvem a tua sabedoria!9 Bendito seja o Senhor teu Deus, que teve agrado em ti, para te pôr no trono de Israel; porque o Senhor ama a Israel para sempre, por isso te estabeleceu rei, para fazeres juízo e justiça.10 E deu ao rei cento e vinte talentos de ouro, e muitíssimas especiarias, e pedras preciosas; nunca veio especiaria em tanta abundância, como a que a rainha de Sabá deu ao rei Salomão.11 Também as naus de Hirão, que de Ofir levavam ouro, traziam de Ofir muita madeira de almugue, e pedras preciosas.12 E desta madeira de almugue fez o rei balaústres para a casa do Senhor, e para a casa do rei, como também harpas e alaúdes para os cantores; nunca veio tal madeira de almugue, nem se viu até o dia de hoje.13 E o rei Salomão deu à rainha de Sabá tudo o que ela desejou, tudo quanto pediu, além do que Salomão dera por sua generosidade real; então ela voltou e partiu para a sua terra, ela e os seus servos.14 E o peso do ouro que se trazia a Salomão cada ano era de seiscentos e sessenta e seis talentos de ouro;15 Além do que entrava dos negociantes, e do contrato dos especieiros, e de todos os reis da Arábia, e dos governadores da mesma terra.16 Também o rei Salomão fez duzentos paveses de ouro batido; seiscentos siclos de ouro destinou para cada pavês;17 Fez também trezentos escudos de ouro batido; três arráteis de ouro destinou para cada escudo; e o rei os pôs na casa do bosque do Líbano.18 Fez mais o rei um grande trono de marfim, e o revestiu de ouro puríssimo.19 Tinha este trono seis degraus, e era o alto do trono por detrás redondo, e de ambos os lados tinha encostos até ao assento; e dois leões, em pé, juntos aos encostos.20 Também doze leões estavam ali sobre os seis degraus de ambos os lados; nunca se tinha feito obra semelhante em nenhum dos reinos.21 Também todas as taças de beber do rei Salomão eram de ouro, e todos os vasos da casa do bosque do Líbano eram de ouro puro; não havia neles prata, porque nos dias de Salomão não tinha valor algum.22 Porque o rei tinha no mar as naus de Társis, com as naus de Hirão; uma vez em três anos tornavam as naus de Társis, e traziam ouro e prata, marfim, e macacos, e pavões.23 Assim o rei Salomão excedeu a todos os reis da terra, tanto em riquezas como em sabedoria.24 E toda a terra buscava a face de Salomão, para ouvir a sabedoria que Deus tinha posto no seu coração.25 E cada um trazia o seu presente, vasos de prata e vasos de ouro, e roupas, e armaduras, e especiarias, cavalos e mulas; isso faziam de ano em ano.26 Também ajuntou Salomão carros e cavaleiros, de sorte que tinha mil e quatrocentos carros e doze mil cavaleiros; e os levou às cidades dos carros, e junto ao rei em Jerusalém.27 E fez o rei que em Jerusalém houvesse prata como pedras; e cedros em abundância como sicômoros que estão nas planícies.28 E traziam do Egito, para Salomão, cavalos e fio de linho; e os mercadores do rei recebiam o fio de linho, por um certo preço.29 E subia e saía um carro do Egito por seiscentos siclos de prata, e um cavalo por cento e cinquenta; e assim, por meio deles, eram exportados para todos os reis dos heteus e para os reis da Síria.

1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon in connection with the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with riddles.2 And she came to Jerusalem with an exceedingly great train, with camels bearing spices, and gold in great abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she spoke with him of all that was on her heart.3 And Solomon solved for her all her questions: nothing remained hidden from the king, which he did not tell her.4 And when the queen of Sheba saw all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,5 And the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cup–bearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the Lord: there was no more spirit in her.6 And she said to the king, The truth only was the word that I heard in my own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.7 And I believed not in the words, until I came, and my eyes saw all: and, behold, the half hath not been told me; thou excellest in wisdom and prosperity the report which I have heard.8 Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, who stand before thee continually, who hear thy wisdom.9 Blessed be the Lord thy God, who hath had delight in thee, to place thee on the throne of Israel; because the Lord loveth Israel for ever, therefore hath he made thee king, to do justice and righteousness.10 And she gave to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices a very great store, and precious stones: there came no more spices in such abundance as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.11 And also the ship of Hiram, that fetched gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir in great abundance sandal–wood and precious stones.12 And the king made of the sandal–wood a railing for the house of the Lord, and for the king’s house, and harps and psalteries for the singers: there came no such sandal–wood, nor was it seen again until this day.13 And king Solomon gave unto the queen of Sheba all her pleasure, whatsoever she asked, beside what Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned about and went to her own country, she and her servants.14 Now the weight of the gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty and six talents of gold,15 Beside what he had of the traveling tradesmen, and of the traffic of the merchants, and of the kings of confederate nations, and of the governors of the country.16 And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold he used for each one target.17 And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three manehs of gold he used for each one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.18 The king also made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold.19 The throne had six steps, and there was a round top on the throne behind; and there were arms on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the arms.20 And twelve lions stood there upon the six steps on both sides: there was not the like made in any other kingdom.21 And all king Solomon’s drinking–vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver; it was not valued in the days of Solomon at the least.22 For the king had a Tharshish–ship at sea with the ship of Hiram: once in three years the Tharshish–ship used to come home, laden with gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.23 And king Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom.24 And men of all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.25 And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules: and so year by year.26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he quartered in the cities for chariots, and near the king at Jerusalem.27 And the king rendered the silver in Jerusalem like stones, and the cedars he rendered like the sycamore–trees that are in the lowlands, for abundance.28 And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt; and a company of the king’s merchants bought a quantity at a price.29 And a chariot–team came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.
