1 Então o rei Dario deu ordem, e buscaram nos arquivos, onde se guardavam os tesouros em Babilônia.2 E em Acmeta, no palácio, que está na província de Média, se achou um rolo, e nele estava escrito um memorial que dizia assim:3 No primeiro ano do rei Ciro, o rei Ciro estabeleceu o seguinte decreto: A casa de Deus, em Jerusalém, se reedificará para lugar em que se ofereçam sacrifícios, e seus fundamentos serão firmes; a sua altura de sessenta côvados, e a sua largura de sessenta côvados;4 Com três carreiras de grandes pedras, e uma carreira de madeira nova; e a despesa se fará da casa do rei.5 Além disso, os utensílios de ouro e de prata da casa de Deus, que Nabucodonosor transportou do templo que estava em Jerusalém, e levou para Babilônia, serão restituídos, para que voltem ao seu lugar, ao templo que está em Jerusalém, e serão postos na casa de Deus.6 Agora, pois, Tatenai, governador dalém do rio, Setar-Bozenai, e os seus companheiros, os afarsaquitas, que habitais dalém do rio, apartai-vos dali.7 Deixai que se faça a obra desta casa de Deus; que o governador dos judeus e os anciãos dos judeus edifiquem esta casa de Deus no seu lugar.8 Também por mim se decreta o que haveis de fazer com os anciãos dos judeus, para a reedificação desta casa de Deus, a saber: que da fazenda do rei, dos tributos dalém do rio se pague prontamente a despesa a estes homens, para que não interrompam a obra.9 E o que for necessário, como bezerros, carneiros, e cordeiros, para holocaustos ao Deus dos céus, trigo, sal, vinho e azeite, segundo o rito dos sacerdotes que estão em Jerusalém, dê-se-lhes, de dia em dia, para que não haja falta.10 Para que ofereçam sacrifícios de cheiro suave ao Deus dos céus, e orem pela vida do rei e de seus filhos.11 Também por mim se decreta que todo o homem que mudar este decreto, se arrancará um madeiro da sua casa, e, levantado, o pendurarão nele, e da sua casa se fará por isso um monturo.12 O Deus, pois, que fez habitar ali o seu nome derrube a todos os reis e povos que estenderem a sua mão para mudar o decreto e para destruir esta casa de Deus, que está em Jerusalém. Eu, Dario, baixei o decreto; com diligência se faça.13 Então Tatenai, o governador dalém do rio, Setar-Bozenai e os seus companheiros, assim fizeram diligentemente, conforme ao que decretara o rei Dario.14 E os anciãos dos judeus iam edificando e prosperando pela profecia do profeta Ageu, e de Zacarias, filho de Ido. E edificaram e terminaram a obra conforme ao mandado do Deus de Israel, e conforme ao decreto de Ciro e Dario, e de Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia.15 E acabou-se esta casa no terceiro dia do mês de Adar, no sexto ano do reinado do rei Dario.16 E os filhos de Israel, os sacerdotes, os levitas, e o restante dos filhos do cativeiro, fizeram a dedicação desta casa de Deus com alegria.17 E ofereceram para a dedicação desta casa de Deus cem novilhos, duzentos carneiros, quatrocentos cordeiros, e doze cabritos por expiação do pecado de todo o Israel; segundo o número das tribos de Israel.18 E puseram os sacerdotes nas suas turmas e os levitas nas suas divisões, para o ministério de Deus, em Jerusalém, conforme ao que está escrito no livro de Moisés.19 E os filhos do cativeiro celebraram a páscoa no dia catorze do primeiro mês.20 Porque os sacerdotes e levitas se purificaram como se fossem um só homem, todos estavam limpos; e mataram o cordeiro da páscoa para todos os filhos do cativeiro, e para seus irmãos, os sacerdotes, e para si mesmos.21 Assim comeram a páscoa os filhos de Israel que tinham voltado do cativeiro, com todos os que com eles se apartaram da imundícia dos gentios da terra, para buscarem o Senhor Deus de Israel;22 E celebraram a festa dos pães ázimos por sete dias com alegria; porque o Senhor os tinha alegrado, e tinha mudado o coração do rei da Assíria a favor deles, para lhes fortalecer as mãos na obra da casa de Deus, o Deus de Israel.

1 Then gave king Darius an order, that they should make search in the house of the books, where the treasures were laid up there in Babylon.2 And there was found at Achmetha, in the castle that is in the province of Media, a roll, and therein was thus written: A record.3 In the first year of king Cyrus, king Cyrus gave an order concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, Let the house be built, the place where they used to offer sacrifices, and let its foundations be strongly laid: its height shall be sixty cubits, its breadth sixty cubits,4 With three rows of heavy stones, and a row of new timber; and let the expenses be given out of the king’s house.5 And also let the golden and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took away out of the temple which is in Jerusalem, and brought unto Babylon, be restored, and brought back unto the temple which is in Jerusalem, every one to its place, and let them be put in the house of God.6 Now Thathnai, governor beyond the river, Shethar–bozenai, and your companions the Apharsachites, who are beyond the river, be ye far from there:7 Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God on its site.8 And by me is the order given what ye shall do to the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God, that out of the king’s property, arising out of the tax beyond the river, the expenses shall forthwith be given unto these men, that they be not hindered.9 And what they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt–offerings unto the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the requirement of the priests who are a Jerusalem, shall be given unto them day by day, without fail.10 That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savors unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and of his sons.11 Also is by me the order given, that if any man should alter this command, timber shall be pulled down from his house, and being set up, he shall be hanged thereon; and his house shall be made a dunghill for this.12 And may the God that causeth his name to dwell there cast down every king and people that will stretch forth their hand to alter, to destroy this house of God which is in Jerusalem. I Darius have given the order: let it be done speedily.13 Then did Thathnai the, governor on this aide of the river, Shethar–bozenai, and their companions, in accordance with what king Darius had sent, act in this manner speedily.14 And the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered, through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of ‘Iddo. And they built, and completed it, according to the order of the God of Israel, and according to the order of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes the king of Persia.15 And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of king Darius.16 Then celebrated the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the exile, the dedication of this house of God with joy;17 And they offered for the dedication of this house of God one hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin–offering for all Israel, twelve he–goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.18 And they stationed the priests in their orders, and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God, which is in Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.19 And the children of the exile prepared the passover–sacrifice on the fourteenth day of the first month.20 For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves, as one man were all of them clean; and they slaughtered the passover–sacrifice for all the children of the exile, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves.21 And then did the children of Israel, who were returned out of the exile, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the uncleanness of the nations of the earth, to seek the Lord the God of Israel, eat thereof.22 And they celebrated the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy; for the Lord had made them joyful, and had turned the heart of the king of Asshur toward them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.
