1 E sucedeu no mesmo ano, no princípio do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá, no ano quarto, no mês quinto, que Hananias, filho de Azur, o profeta que era de Gibeom, me falou na casa do Senhor, na presença dos sacerdotes e de todo o povo, dizendo:2 Assim fala o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, dizendo: Eu quebrei o jugo do rei de Babilônia.3 Depois de passados dois anos completos, eu tornarei a trazer a este lugar todos os utensílios da casa do Senhor, que deste lugar tomou Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, levando-os a Babilônia.4 Também a Jeconias, filho de Jeoiaquim, rei de Judá, e a todos os do cativeiro de Judá, que entraram em Babilônia, eu tornarei a trazer a este lugar, diz o Senhor; porque quebrarei o jugo do rei de Babilônia.5 Então falou o profeta Jeremias ao profeta Hananias, na presença dos sacerdotes, e na presença de todo o povo que estava na casa do Senhor.6 Disse, pois, Jeremias, o profeta: Amém! Assim faça o Senhor; confirme o Senhor as tuas palavras, que profetizaste, e torne ele a trazer os utensílios da casa do Senhor, e todos os do cativeiro de Babilônia a este lugar.7 Mas ouve agora esta palavra, que eu falo aos teus ouvidos e aos ouvidos de todo o povo:8 Os profetas que houve antes de mim e antes de ti, desde a antiguidade, profetizaram contra muitas terras, e contra grandes reinos, acerca de guerra, e de mal, e de peste.9 O profeta que profetizar de paz, quando se cumprir a palavra desse profeta, será conhecido como o profeta a quem o Senhor na verdade enviou.10 Então Hananias, o profeta, tomou o jugo do pescoço do profeta Jeremias, e o quebrou.11 E falou Hananias na presença de todo o povo, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Assim, passados dois anos completos, quebrarei o jugo de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, de sobre o pescoço de todas as nações. E Jeremias, o profeta, seguiu o seu caminho.12 Mas veio a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, depois que Hananias, o profeta, quebrou o jugo de sobre o pescoço de Jeremias, o profeta, dizendo:13 Vai, e fala a Hananias, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Jugos de madeira quebraste, mas em vez deles farás jugos de ferro.14 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Jugo de ferro pus sobre o pescoço de todas estas nações, para servirem a Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e servi-lo-ão, e até os animais do campo lhe dei.15 E disse o profeta Jeremias ao profeta Hananias: Ouve agora, Hananias: Não te enviou o Senhor, mas tu fizeste que este povo confiasse em mentiras.16 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor: Eis que te lançarei de sobre a face da terra; este ano morrerás, porque falaste em rebeldia contra o Senhor.17 E morreu Hananias, o profeta, no mesmo ano, no sétimo mês.

1 And it came to pass in the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah the king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that there said unto me Chananyah the son of ‘Azzur the prophet, who was from Gib’on, in the house of the Lord, before the eyes of the priests, and of all the people, as followeth,2 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon;3 Within yet two years’ time will I cause to be brought back unto this place all the vessels of the house of the Lord, which Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon hath taken away from this place, and which he hath carried to Babylon:4 And Jechonyah the son of Jehoyakim the king of Judah, and all the exiles of Judah that are gone to Babylon, will I cause to return to this place, saith the Lord; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.5 Then said Jeremiah the prophet unto Chananyah the prophet before the eyes of the priests, and before the eyes of all the people that stood in the house of the Lord,6 Yea, then said Jeremiah the prophet, Amen, may the Lord do so: may the Lord fulfill thy words which thou hast prophesied, to cause the vessels of the Lord’s house, and all that have been carried into exile, to be brought back from Babylon unto this place.7 Nevertheless hear thou now this word which I speak before thy ears, and before the ears of all the people:8 The prophets that have been before me and before thee from olden times prophesied both concerning many countries, and against great kingdoms, respecting war, and respecting evil, and respecting pestilence.9 The prophet who prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet doth come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, as the one whom the Lord hath sent in truth.10 Then took Chananyah the prophet the yoke–bar from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, and broke it.11 And Chananyah said before the eyes of all the people, as followeth, Thus hath said the Lord, Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon within two years’ time from the neck of all the nations. And Jeremiah the prophet went his way.12 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, after Chananyah the prophet had broken the yoke–bar from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, saying,13 Go and say unto Chananyah as followeth, Thus hath said the Lord, Yoke–bars of wood hast thou broken; but thou shalt make in their stead yoke–bars of iron.14 For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, A yoke of iron have I placed upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon; and they shall work for him: and also the beasts of the field have I given him.15 Then said Jeremiah the prophet unto Chananyah the prophet, Hear now, Chananyah, The Lord did not send thee; but thou hast caused this people to trust on a falsehood.16 Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will send thee away from off the face of the earth: this year shalt thou die, because thou hast spoken rebellion against the Lord.17 So Chananyah the prophet died in that same year, in the seventh month.
