1 A palavra que do Senhor veio a Jeremias, dizendo:2 Assim falou o Senhor Deus de Israel, dizendo: Escreve num livro todas as palavras que te tenho falado.3 Porque eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que farei voltar do cativeiro o meu povo Israel, e de Judá, diz o Senhor; e tornarei a trazê-los à terra que dei a seus pais, e a possuirão.4 E estas são as palavras que disse o Senhor, acerca de Israel e de Judá.5 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Ouvimos uma voz de tremor, de temor mas não de paz.6 Perguntai, pois, e vede, se um homem pode dar à luz. Por que, pois, vejo a cada homem com as mãos sobre os lombos como a que está dando à luz? E por que se tornaram pálidos todos os rostos?7 Ah! Porque aquele dia é tão grande, que não houve outro semelhante; e é tempo de angústia para Jacó; ele, porém, será salvo dela.8 Porque será naquele dia, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, que eu quebrarei o seu jugo de sobre o teu pescoço, e quebrarei os teus grilhões; e nunca mais se servirão dele os estrangeiros.9 Mas servirão ao Senhor, seu Deus, como também a Davi, seu rei, que lhes levantarei.10 Não temas, pois, tu, ó meu servo Jacó, diz o Senhor, nem te espantes, ó Israel; porque eis que te livrarei de terras de longe, e à tua descendência da terra do seu cativeiro; e Jacó voltará, e descansará, e ficará em sossego, e não haverá quem o atemorize.11 Porque eu sou contigo, diz o Senhor, para te salvar; porquanto darei fim a todas as nações entre as quais te espalhei; a ti, porém, não darei fim, mas castigar-te-ei com medida, e de todo não te terei por inocente.12 Porque assim diz o Senhor: A tua ferida é incurável; a tua chaga é dolorosa.13 Não há quem defenda a tua causa para te aplicar curativo; não tens remédios que possam curar.14 Todos os teus amantes se esqueceram de ti, e não perguntam por ti; porque te feri com ferida de inimigo, e com castigo de quem é cruel, pela grandeza da tua maldade e multidão de teus pecados.15 Por que gritas por causa da tua ferida? Tua dor é incurável. Pela grandeza de tua maldade, e multidão de teus pecados, eu fiz estas coisas.16 Por isso todos os que te devoram serão devorados; e todos os teus adversários irão, todos eles, para o cativeiro; e os que te roubam serão roubados, e a todos os que te despojam entregarei ao saque.17 Porque te restaurarei a saúde, e te curarei as tuas chagas, diz o Senhor; porquanto te chamaram a repudiada, dizendo: É Sião, já ninguém pergunta por ela.18 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que farei voltar do cativeiro as tendas de Jacó, e apiedar-me-ei das suas moradas; e a cidade será reedificada sobre o seu montão, e o palácio permanecerá como habitualmente.19 E sairá deles o louvor e a voz de júbilo; e multiplicá-los-ei, e não serão diminuídos, e glorificá-los-ei, e não serão apoucados.20 E seus filhos serão como na antiguidade, e a sua congregação será confirmada diante de mim; e castigarei todos os seus opressores.21 E os seus nobres serão deles; e o seu governador sairá do meio deles, e o farei aproximar, e ele se chegará a mim; pois, quem de si mesmo se empenharia para chegar-se a mim? Diz o Senhor.22 E ser-me-eis por povo, e eu vos serei por Deus.23 Eis que a tempestade do Senhor, a sua indignação, já saiu; uma tempestade varredora, cairá cruelmente sobre a cabeça dos ímpios.24 Não voltará atrás o furor da ira do Senhor, até que tenha executado e até que tenha cumprido os desígnios do seu coração; no fim dos dias entendereis isto.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,2 Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.3 For, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will bring back again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord; and I will cause them to return to the land that I have given to their fathers, and they shall possess it.4 And these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah;5 For thus hath said the Lord, A voice of terror have we heard, dread, and no peace.6 Ask ye now, and see whether a male doth give birth to a child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in giving birth? and why are all faces turned pale?7 Alas, for that day is great, there is none like it; and a time of distress it is unto Jacob; yet out of it shall he be saved.8 And it shall come to pass on that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and thy bands will I burst asunder; and strangers shall not make him serve any more;9 But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.10 And thou––do not fear, O my servant Jacob, saith the Lord; and be not dismayed, O Israel; for, behold, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity: and Jacob shall return, and shall be at rest, and be secure, with none to terrify him.11 For with thee am I, saith the Lord, to save thee: though I make a full end of all the nations whither I have scattered thee, yet of thee will I not make a full end; but I will correct thee in moderation, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.12 For thus hath said the Lord, Incurable is thy bruise, and painful, thy wound.13 There is no one to plead thy cause, to bind up thy wound: useful remedies there are none for thee.14 All thy lovers have forgotten thee; thee they seek not; for with the blow of an enemy have I smitten thee, with cruel chastisement, for the multitude of thy iniquity, because thy sins were so numerous.15 Why wilt thou cry out because of thy breach? for thy pain which is incurable? because of the multitude of thy iniquity, because thy sins were so numerous, have I done these things unto thee.16 Nevertheless all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thy adversaries, all of them, shall go into captivity; and they that plunder thee shall be given up to plunder, and all that prey upon thee will I give up for a prey.17 For I will place a healing plaster on thy bruise, and of thy wounds will I cure thee, saith the Lord; because they called thee "an Outcast." "This is Zion, whom no one seeketh after."18 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will bring back again the captivity of the tents of Jacob, and on his dwelling–places will I have mercy; and the city shall be rebuilt upon her own heap of ruins, and the palace shall be inhabited after its ancient manner.19 And there shall proceed out of them thanksgiving, and the voice of those that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be diminished; I will also make them numerous, and they shall not be made few in number.20 And their children shall be as aforetimes, and their congregation shall be firmly established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.21 And their leader shall be of themselves, and their ruler shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me; for who is this that will venture of his own heart to approach unto me? saith the Lord.22 And ye shall be unto me for a people, and I will be unto you for a God.23 Behold, the storm–wind of the Lord goeth forth with fury, an abiding storm–wind: upon the head of the wicked shall it fall.24 The fierceness of the anger of the Lord will not turn back, until he have done, and until he have fulfilled the purposes of his heart: in the latter days shall ye understand this.
