1 Sing, O barren, you that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you that did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, said the LORD.

2 Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitations: spare not, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes;

3 For you shall break forth on the right hand and on the left; and your seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

4 Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: neither be you confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.

5 For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

6 For the LORD has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when you were refused, said your God.

7 For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you.

8 In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on you, said the LORD your Redeemer.

9 For this is as the waters of Noah to me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you.

10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, said the LORD that has mercy on you.

11 O you afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

12 And I will make your windows of agates, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your borders of pleasant stones.

13 And all your children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of your children.

14 In righteousness shall you be established: you shall be far from oppression; for you shall not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near you.

15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whoever shall gather together against you shall fall for your sake.

16 Behold, I have created the smith that blows the coals in the fire, and that brings forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

17 No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, said the LORD.

1 GIUBILA, o sterile, che non partorivi; fa’ risonar grida di allegrezza, e strilla, o tu, che non avevi dolori di parto; perciocchè i figliuoli della desolata saranno in maggior numero che quelli della maritata, ha detto il Signore.

2 Allarga il luogo del tuo padiglione, e sieno tesi i teli de’ tuoi tabernacoli; non divietarlo: allunga le tue corde, e ferma i tuoi piuoli.

3 Perciocchè tu moltiplicherai, traboccando a destra ed a sinistra; e la tua progenie possederà le genti, e renderà abitate le città deserte.

4 Non temere, perciocchè, tu non sarai confusa; e non vergognarti, perciocchè tu non sarai adontata; anzi dimenticherai la vergogna della tua fanciullezza, e non ti ricorderai più del vituperio della tua vedovità.

5 Perciocchè il tuo marito è quel che ti ha fatta; il suo Nome è: Il Signor degli eserciti; e il tuo Redentore è il Santo d’Israele, il quale sarà chiamato l’Iddio di tutta la terra

6 Perciocchè il Signore ti ha chiamata, come una donna abbandonata, e tribolata di spirito; e come una moglie sposata in giovanezza, che sia stata mandata via, ha detto il tuo Dio.

7 Io ti ho lasciata per un piccol momento, ma ti raccoglierò per grandi misericordie.

8 Io ho nascosta la mia faccia da te per un momento, nello stante dell’indegnazione; ma ho avuta pietà di te per benignità eterna, ha detto il Signore, tuo Redentore.

9 Perciocchè questo mi sarà come le acque di Noè; conciossiachè, come io giurai che le acque di Noè non passerebbero più sopra la terra, così ho giurato che non mi adirerò più contro a te, e non ti sgriderò più.

10 Avvegnachè i monti si dipartissero dal luogo loro, e i colli si smovessero; pur non si dipartirà la mia benignità da te, e il patto della mia pace non sarà smosso; ha detto il Signore, che ha pietà di te

11 O afflitta, tempestata, sconsolata; ecco, io poserò le tue pietre sopra marmo fino, e ti fonderò sopra zaffiri.

12 E farò le tue finestre di rubini e le tue porte di pietre di carbonchi, e tutto il tuo recinto di pietre preziose.

13 E tutti i tuoi figliuoli saranno insegnati dal Signore; e la pace de’ tuoi figliuoli sarà grande.

14 Tu sarai stabilita in giustizia, tu sarai lontana d’oppressione, sì che non la temerai; e di ruina, sì ch’ella non si accosterà a te.

15 Ecco, ben si faranno delle raunate, ma non da parte mia; chi si radunerà contro a te, venendoti addosso, caderà.

16 Ecco, io ho creato il fabbro che soffia il carbone nel fuoco, e che trae fuori lo strumento, per fare il suo lavoro; ed io ancora ho creato il guastatore, per distruggere.

17 Niun’arme fabbricata contro a te prospererà; e tu condannerai ogni lingua che si leverà contro a te in giudicio. Quest’è l’eredità de’ servitori del Signore, e la lor giustizia da parte mia, dice il Signore
