1 Canta alegremente, ó estéril, que não deste à luz; exulta com alegre canto e exclama, tu que não tiveste dores de parto; porque mais são os filhos da mulher solitária do que os filhos da casada, diz o Senhor. 2 Alarga o espaço da tua tenda; estenda-se o toldo da tua habitação, e não o impeças; alonga as tuas cordas e firma bem as tuas estacas. 3 Porque transbordarás para a direita e para a esquerda; a tua posteridade possuirá as nações e fará que se povoem as cidades assoladas.

4 Não temas, porque não serás envergonhada; não te envergonhes, porque não sofrerás humilhação; pois te esquecerás da vergonha da tua mocidade e não mais te lembrarás do opróbrio da tua viuvez. 5 Porque o teu Criador é o teu marido; o Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome; e o Santo de Israel é o teu Redentor; ele é chamado o Deus de toda a terra. 6 Porque o Senhor te chamou como a mulher desamparada e de espírito abatido; como a mulher da mocidade, que fora repudiada, diz o teu Deus. 7 Por breve momento te deixei, mas com grandes misericórdias torno a acolher-te; 8 num ímpeto de indignação, escondi de ti a minha face por um momento; mas com misericórdia eterna me compadeço de ti, diz o Senhor, o teu Redentor. 9 Porque isto é para mim como as águas de Noé; pois jurei que as águas de Noé não mais inundariam a terra, e assim jurei que não mais me iraria contra ti, nem te repreenderia. 10 Porque os montes se retirarão, e os outeiros serão removidos; mas a minha misericórdia não se apartará de ti, e a aliança da minha paz não será removida, diz o Senhor, que se compadece de ti.

11 Ó tu, aflita, arrojada com a tormenta e desconsolada! Eis que eu assentarei as tuas pedras com argamassa colorida e te fundarei sobre safiras. 12 Farei os teus baluartes de rubis, as tuas portas, de carbúnculos e toda a tua muralha, de pedras preciosas. 13 Todos os teus filhos serão ensinados do Senhor; e será grande a paz de teus filhos. 14 Serás estabelecida em justiça, longe da opressão, porque já não temerás, e também do espanto, porque não chegará a ti. 15 Eis que poderão suscitar contendas, mas não procederá de mim; quem conspira contra ti cairá diante de ti. 16 Eis que eu criei o ferreiro, que assopra as brasas no fogo e que produz a arma para o seu devido fim; também criei o assolador, para destruir. 17 Toda arma forjada contra ti não prosperará; toda língua que ousar contra ti em juízo, tu a condenarás; esta é a herança dos servos do Senhor e o seu direito que de mim procede, diz o Senhor.

1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith Jehovah. 2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thy habitations; spare not: lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes. 3 For thou shalt spread abroad on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall possess the nations, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth; and the reproach of thy widowhood shalt thou remember no more. 5 For thy Maker is thy husband; Jehovah of hosts is his name: and the Holy One of Israel is thy Redeemer; the God of the whole earth shall he be called. 6 For Jehovah hath called thee as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth, when she is cast off, saith thy God. 7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8 In overflowing wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting lovingkindness will I have mercy on thee, saith Jehovah thy Redeemer.

9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah shall no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I will not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. 10 For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my lovingkindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed, saith Jehovah that hath mercy on thee.

11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will set thy stones in fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. 12 And I will make thy pinnacles of rubies, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy border of precious stones. 13 And all thy children shall be taught of Jehovah; and great shall be the peace of thy children. 14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression, for thou shalt not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near thee. 15 Behold, they may gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall because of thee. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the fire of coals, and bringeth forth a weapon for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. 17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness which is of me, saith Jehovah.

1 "Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband," says the LORD.

2 "Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.

3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.

4 "Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.

5 For your Maker is your husband — the LORD Almighty is his name — the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

6 The LORD will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit — a wife who married young, only to be rejected," says your God.

7 "For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.

8 In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you," says the LORD your Redeemer.

9 "To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.

10 Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

11 "Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise, "your foundations with lapis lazuli.

12 I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.

13 All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace.

14 In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you.

15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you.

16 "See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc;

17 no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.
