1 Ora, em toda a terra havia apenas uma linguagem e uma só maneira de falar. 2 Sucedeu que, partindo eles do Oriente, deram com uma planície na terra de Sinar; e habitaram ali. 3 E disseram uns aos outros: Vinde, façamos tijolos e queimemo-los bem. Os tijolos serviram-lhes de pedra, e o betume, de argamassa. 4 Disseram: Vinde, edifiquemos para nós uma cidade e uma torre cujo tope chegue até aos céus e tornemos célebre o nosso nome, para que não sejamos espalhados por toda a terra. 5 Então, desceu o Senhor para ver a cidade e a torre, que os filhos dos homens edificavam; 6 e o Senhor disse: Eis que o povo é um, e todos têm a mesma linguagem. Isto é apenas o começo; agora não haverá restrição para tudo que intentam fazer. 7 Vinde, desçamos e confundamos ali a sua linguagem, para que um não entenda a linguagem de outro. 8 Destarte, o Senhor os dispersou dali pela superfície da terra; e cessaram de edificar a cidade. 9 Chamou-se-lhe, por isso, o nome de Babel, porque ali confundiu o Senhor a linguagem de toda a terra e dali o Senhor os dispersou por toda a superfície dela.
10 São estas as gerações de Sem. Ora, ele era da idade de cem anos quando gerou a Arfaxade, dois anos depois do dilúvio; 11 e, depois que gerou a Arfaxade, viveu Sem quinhentos anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
12 Viveu Arfaxade trinta e cinco anos e gerou a Salá; 13 e, depois que gerou a Salá, viveu Arfaxade quatrocentos e três anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
14 Viveu Salá trinta anos e gerou a Héber; 15 e, depois que gerou a Héber, viveu Salá quatrocentos e três anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
16 Viveu Héber trinta e quatro anos e gerou a Pelegue; 17 e, depois que gerou a Pelegue, viveu Héber quatrocentos e trinta anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
18 Viveu Pelegue trinta anos e gerou a Reú; 19 e, depois que gerou a Reú, viveu Pelegue duzentos e nove anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
20 Viveu Reú trinta e dois anos e gerou a Serugue; 21 e, depois que gerou a Serugue, viveu Reú duzentos e sete anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
22 Viveu Serugue trinta anos e gerou a Naor; 23 e, depois que gerou a Naor, viveu Serugue duzentos anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
24 Viveu Naor vinte e nove anos e gerou a Tera; 25 e, depois que gerou a Tera, viveu Naor cento e dezenove anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
26 Viveu Tera setenta anos e gerou a Abrão, a Naor e a Harã.
27 São estas as gerações de Tera. Tera gerou a Abrão, a Naor e a Harã; e Harã gerou a Ló. 28 Morreu Harã na terra de seu nascimento, em Ur dos caldeus, estando Tera, seu pai, ainda vivo. 29 Abrão e Naor tomaram para si mulheres; a de Abrão chamava-se Sarai, a de Naor, Milca, filha de Harã, que foi pai de Milca e de Iscá. 30 Sarai era estéril, não tinha filhos.
31 Tomou Tera a Abrão, seu filho, e a Ló, filho de Harã, filho de seu filho, e a Sarai, sua nora, mulher de seu filho Abrão, e saiu com eles de Ur dos caldeus, para ir à terra de Canaã; foram até Harã, onde ficaram. 32 E, havendo Tera vivido duzentos e cinco anos ao todo, morreu em Harã.
1 And the whole earth had one language, and the same words.
2 And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn {them} thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
4 And they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which {may reach} to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
5 And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.
6 And Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.
7 Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.
9 Therefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.
10 These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
11 And Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.
13 And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
14 And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
15 And Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
16 And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
17 And Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19 And Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
21 And Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
23 And Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
24 And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
25 And Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 And these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
28 And Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.
29 And Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.
30 And Sarai was barren: she had no child.
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
1 Ora toda a terra tinha uma só linguagem e um só modo de falar.
2 Viajando os homens para o Oriente, acharam uma planície na terra de Sinear; e ali habitaram.
3 Disseram uns aos outros: Vinde, façamos tijolos e queimemo-los bem. Os tijolos lhes serviram de pedras, e o betume de cal.
4 E disseram: Vinde, edifiquemos para nós uma cidade e uma torre, cujo cume chegue até o céu, e façamo-nos um nome; para que não sejamos espalhados sobre a face de toda a terra.
5 Porém desceu Jeová para ver a cidade e a torre, que os filhos dos homens edificavam.
6 Disse Jeová:Eis que o povo é um só, e todos eles têm uma só linguagem. Isto é o que começam a fazer: agora nada lhes será vedado de quanto intentam fazer.
7 Vinde, desçamos e confundamos ali a sua linguagem, para que não entendam a linguagem um do outro.
8 Assim Jeová os espalhou dali sobre a face de toda a terra; e cessaram de edificar a cidade.
9 Por isso se chamou o seu nome Babel, porquanto ali confundiu Jeová a linguagem de toda a terra; e dali os espalhou sobre a face de toda a terra.
10 Estas são as gerações de Sem. Tinha ele cem anos de idade, quando gerou a Arfaxade dois anos depois do dilúvio.
11 Viveu Sem, depois que gerou a Arfaxade, quinhentos anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
12 Arfaxade viveu trinta e cinco anos, e gerou a Salá.
13 Viveu Arfaxade, depois que gerou a Salá, quatrocentos e três anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
14 Salá viveu trinta anos, e gerou a Éber.
15 Viveu Salá, depois que gerou a Éber, quatrocentos e três anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
16 Éber viveu trinta e quatro anos, e gerou a Pelegue.
17 Viveu Éber, depois que gerou a Pelegue, quatrocentos e trinta anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
18 Pelegue viveu trinta anos, e gerou a Reú.
19 Viveu Pelegue, depois que gerou a Reú, duzentos e nove anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
20 Reú viveu trinta e dois anos, e gerou a Serugue.
21 Viveu Reú, depois que gerou a Serugue, duzentos e sete anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
22 Serugue viveu trinta anos, e gerou a Naor.
23 Viveu Serugue, depois que gerou a Naor, duzentos anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
24 Naor viveu vinte e nove anos, e gerou a Terá.
25 Viveu Naor, depois que gerou a Terá, cento e dezenove anos; e gerou filhos e filhas.
26 Terá viveu setenta anos, e gerou a Abrão, a Naor e a Harã.
27 Estas são as gerações de Terá: Terá gerou Abrão, a Naor e a Harã: e Harã gerou a Ló.
28 Harã morreu antes de seu pai Terá na terra do seu nascimento, em Ur dos Caldeus.
29 Abrão e Naor tomaram para si mulheres; o nome da mulher de Abrão era Sarai; e o nome da mulher de Naor era Milca, filha de Harã que foi pai de Milca, e pai de Iscá.
30 Sarai era estéril; ela não tinha filhos.
31 Tomou Terá a Abrão, seu filho, e a Ló, filho de Harã, filho de seu filho, e a Sarai, sua nora, mulher de seu filho Abrão, e saiu com eles de Ur dos Caldeus para ir à terra de Canaã; vieram a Harã, e ali habitaram.
32 Foram os dias de Terá duzentos e cinco anos; e morreu Terá em Harã.
