1 Também, irmãos, vos fazemos conhecer a graça de Deus concedida às igrejas da Macedônia; 2 porque, no meio de muita prova de tribulação, manifestaram abundância de alegria, e a profunda pobreza deles superabundou em grande riqueza da sua generosidade. 3 Porque eles, testemunho eu, na medida de suas posses e mesmo acima delas, se mostraram voluntários, 4 pedindo-nos, com muitos rogos, a graça de participarem da assistência aos santos. 5 E não somente fizeram como nós esperávamos, mas também deram-se a si mesmos primeiro ao Senhor, depois a nós, pela vontade de Deus; 6 o que nos levou a recomendar a Tito que, como começou, assim também complete esta graça entre vós. 7 Como, porém, em tudo, manifestais superabundância, tanto na fé e na palavra como no saber, e em todo cuidado, e em nosso amor para convosco, assim também abundeis nesta graça.

8 Não vos falo na forma de mandamento, mas para provar, pela diligência de outros, a sinceridade do vosso amor; 9 pois conheceis a graça de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, sendo rico, se fez pobre por amor de vós, para que, pela sua pobreza, vos tornásseis ricos. 10 E nisto dou minha opinião; pois a vós outros, que, desde o ano passado, principiastes não só a prática, mas também o querer, convém isto. 11 Completai, agora, a obra começada, para que, assim como revelastes prontidão no querer, assim a leveis a termo, segundo as vossas posses. 12 Porque, se há boa vontade, será aceita conforme o que o homem tem e não segundo o que ele não tem. 13 Porque não é para que os outros tenham alívio, e vós, sobrecarga; mas para que haja igualdade, 14 suprindo a vossa abundância, no presente, a falta daqueles, de modo que a abundância daqueles venha a suprir a vossa falta, e, assim, haja igualdade, 15 como está escrito:

O que muito colheu não teve demais; e o que pouco, não teve falta.

16 Mas graças a Deus, que pôs no coração de Tito a mesma solicitude por amor de vós; 17 porque atendeu ao nosso apelo e, mostrando-se mais cuidadoso, partiu voluntariamente para vós outros. 18 E, com ele, enviamos o irmão cujo louvor no evangelho está espalhado por todas as igrejas. 19 E não só isto, mas foi também eleito pelas igrejas para ser nosso companheiro no desempenho desta graça ministrada por nós, para a glória do próprio Senhor e para mostrar a nossa boa vontade; 20 evitando, assim, que alguém nos acuse em face desta generosa dádiva administrada por nós; 21 pois o que nos preocupa é procedermos honestamente, não só perante o Senhor, como também diante dos homens. 22 Com eles, enviamos nosso irmão cujo zelo, em muitas ocasiões e de muitos modos, temos experimentado; agora, porém, se mostra ainda mais zeloso pela muita confiança em vós. 23 Quanto a Tito, é meu companheiro e cooperador convosco; quanto a nossos irmãos, são mensageiros das igrejas e glória de Cristo. 24 Manifestai, pois, perante as igrejas, a prova do vosso amor e da nossa exultação a vosso respeito na presença destes homens.

1 We want you to know, brothers, about God's grace that was given to the churches of Macedonia.2 In spite of a terrible ordeal of suffering, their abundant joy, along with their deep poverty, has resulted in the abundance of their generosity.3 I can testify that by their own free will they have given to the utmost of their ability, yes, even beyond their ability.4 They begged us earnestly for the privilege of participating in this ministry to the saints.5 We did not expect that! They gave themselves to the Lord first and then to us, since this was God's will.6 So we urged Titus to finish this work of kindness among you in the same way that he had started it.7 Indeed, the more your faith, speech, knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for us increase, the more we want you to be rich in this work of kindness.8 I am not commanding you but testing the genuineness of your love by the enthusiasm of others.9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Although he was rich, for your sakes he became poor, so that you, through his poverty, might become rich.10 I am giving you my opinion on this matter because it will be helpful to you. Last year you were not only willing to do something, but had already started to do it.11 Now finish doing it, so that your eagerness to undertake it may be matched by its completion, in keeping with what you have.12 For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what you have, not according to what you do not have.13 Not that others should have relief while you have hardship. Rather, it is a question of fairness.14 At the present time, your surplus fills their need, so that their surplus may fill your need. In this way things are fair.15 As it is written, "The person who had much did not have too much,and the person who had little did not have too little."16 But thanks be to God, who placed in the heart of Titus the same dedication to you that I have.17 He welcomed my request and eagerly went to visit you by his own free will.18 With him we have sent the brother who is praised in all the churches for spreading the gospel.19 More than that, he has also been selected by the churches to travel with us while we are administering this work of kindness for the glory of the Lord and as evidence of our eagerness to help.20 We are trying to avoid any criticism of the way we are administering this great undertaking.21 We intend to do what is right, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of people.22 We have also sent with them our brother whom we have often tested in many ways and found to be dedicated. At present he is more dedicated than ever because he has so much confidence in you.23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker on your behalf. Our brothers, emissaries from the churches, are the glory of Christ.24 Therefore, give to the churches a demonstration of your love and a reason for why we boast about you.
