1 Salomão, filho de Davi, fortaleceu-se no seu reino, e o Senhor, seu Deus, era com ele e o engrandeceu sobremaneira. 2 Falou Salomão a todo o Israel, aos capitães de mil e aos de cem, aos juízes e a todos os príncipes em todo o Israel, cabeças de famílias; 3 e foi com toda a congregação ao alto que estava em Gibeão, porque ali estava a tenda da congregação de Deus, que Moisés, servo do Senhor, tinha feito no deserto. 4 Mas Davi fizera subir a arca de Deus de Quiriate-Jearim ao lugar que lhe havia preparado, porque lhe armara uma tenda em Jerusalém. 5 Também o altar de bronze que fizera Bezalel, filho de Uri, filho de Hur, estava ali diante do tabernáculo do Senhor; e Salomão e a congregação consultaram o Senhor. 6 Salomão ofereceu ali sacrifícios perante o Senhor, sobre o altar de bronze que estava na tenda da congregação; e ofereceu sobre ele mil holocaustos.

7 Naquela mesma noite, apareceu Deus a Salomão e lhe disse: Pede-me o que queres que eu te dê. 8 Respondeu-lhe Salomão: De grande benevolência usaste para com Davi, meu pai, e a mim me fizeste reinar em seu lugar. 9 Agora, pois, ó Senhor Deus, cumpra-se a tua promessa feita a Davi, meu pai; porque tu me constituíste rei sobre um povo numeroso como o pó da terra. 10 Dá-me, pois, agora, sabedoria e conhecimento, para que eu saiba conduzir-me à testa deste povo; pois quem poderia julgar a este grande povo? 11 Disse Deus a Salomão: Porquanto foi este o desejo do teu coração, e não pediste riquezas, bens ou honras, nem a morte dos que te aborrecem, nem tampouco pediste longevidade, mas sabedoria e conhecimento, para poderes julgar a meu povo, sobre o qual te constituí rei, 12 sabedoria e conhecimento são dados a ti, e te darei riquezas, bens e honras, quais não teve nenhum rei antes de ti, e depois de ti não haverá teu igual. 13 Voltou Salomão para Jerusalém, da sua ida ao alto que está em Gibeão, de diante da tenda da congregação; e reinou sobre Israel.

14 Salomão ajuntou carros e cavaleiros; tinha mil e quatrocentos carros e doze mil cavaleiros, que colocou nas cidades para os carros e junto ao rei, em Jerusalém. 15 Fez o rei que, em Jerusalém, houvesse prata e ouro como pedras, e cedros em abundância como os sicômoros que estão nas planícies. 16 Os cavalos de Salomão vinham do Egito e da Cilícia; e comerciantes do rei os recebiam da Cilícia por certo preço. 17 Importava-se do Egito um carro por seiscentos siclos de prata e um cavalo, por cento e cinquenta; nas mesmas condições, as caravanas os traziam e os exportavam para todos os reis dos heteus e para os reis da Síria.

1 AND SOLOMON the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

2 And Solomon spoke unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers' houses.

3 So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

4 But the ark of God had David brought up from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

5 Moreover the brazen altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, had been put before the tabernacle of the LORD; and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

6 And Solomon offered there, upon the brazen altar before the LORD, which was at the tent of meeting, he offered a thousand burnt-offerings upon it.

7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him: 'Ask what I shall give thee.'

8 And Solomon said unto God: 'Thou hast shown great kindness unto David my father, and hast made me king in his stead.

9 Now, O LORD God, let Thy promise unto David my father be established; for Thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this Thy people, that is so great?'

11 And God said to Solomon: 'Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of them that hate thee, neither yet hast asked long life, but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge My people, over whom I have made thee king;

12 wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee, and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.'

13 So Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting, unto Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.

14 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

15 And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore-trees that are in the Lowland, for abundance.

16 And the horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; also out of Keve, the king's merchants buying them of the men of Keve at a price.

17 And they fetched up, and brought out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Aram, did they bring them out by their means.
