1 Tinha Ezequias vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe se chamava Abia e era filha de Zacarias. 2 Fez ele o que era reto perante o Senhor, segundo tudo quanto fizera Davi, seu pai. 3 No primeiro ano do seu reinado, no primeiro mês, abriu as portas da Casa do Senhor e as reparou. 4 Trouxe os sacerdotes e os levitas, ajuntou-os na praça oriental 5 e lhes disse: Ouvi-me, ó levitas! Santificai-vos, agora, e santificai a Casa do Senhor, Deus de vossos pais; tirai do santuário a imundícia. 6 Porque nossos pais prevaricaram e fizeram o que era mau perante o Senhor, nosso Deus, e o deixaram; desviaram o seu rosto do tabernáculo do Senhor e lhe voltaram as costas. 7 Também fecharam as portas do pórtico, apagaram as lâmpadas, não queimaram incenso, nem ofereceram holocaustos nos santuários ao Deus de Israel. 8 Pelo que veio grande ira do Senhor sobre Judá e Jerusalém, e os entregou ao terror, ao espanto e aos assobios, como vós o estais vendo com os próprios olhos. 9 Porque eis que nossos pais caíram à espada, e, por isso, nossos filhos, nossas filhas e nossas mulheres estiveram em cativeiro. 10 Agora, estou resolvido a fazer aliança com o Senhor, Deus de Israel, para que se desvie de nós o ardor da sua ira. 11 Filhos meus, não sejais negligentes, pois o Senhor vos escolheu para estardes diante dele para o servirdes, para serdes seus ministros e queimardes incenso.

12 Então, se levantaram os levitas: Maate, filho de Amasai, e Joel, filho de Azarias, dos filhos dos coatitas; dos filhos de Merari, Quis, filho de Abdi, e Azarias, filho de Jealelel; dos gersonitas, Joá, filho de Zima, e Éden, filho de Joá; 13 dos filhos de Elisafã, Sinri e Jeuel; dos filhos de Asafe, Zacarias e Matanias; 14 dos filhos de Hemã, Jeuel e Simei; dos filhos de Jedutum, Semaías e Uziel. 15 Congregaram a seus irmãos, santificaram-se e vieram segundo a ordem do rei pelas palavras do Senhor, para purificarem a Casa do Senhor. 16 Os sacerdotes entraram na Casa do Senhor, para a purificar, e tiraram para fora, ao pátio da Casa do Senhor, toda imundícia que acharam no templo do Senhor; e os levitas a tomaram, para a levarem fora, ao ribeiro de Cedrom. 17 Começaram, pois, a santificar no primeiro dia do primeiro mês; ao oitavo dia do mês, vieram ao pórtico do Senhor e santificaram a Casa do Senhor em oito dias; no décimo sexto dia do mês, acabaram. 18 Então, foram ter com o rei Ezequias no palácio e disseram: Já purificamos toda a Casa do Senhor, como também o altar do holocausto com todos os seus utensílios e a mesa da proposição com todos os seus objetos. 19 Também todos os objetos que o rei Acaz, no seu reinado, lançou fora, na sua transgressão, já preparamos e santificamos; e eis que estão diante do altar do Senhor.

20 Então, o rei Ezequias se levantou de madrugada, reuniu os príncipes da cidade e subiu à Casa do Senhor. 21 Mandou trazer sete novilhos, sete carneiros, sete cordeiros e sete bodes, como oferta pelo pecado a favor do reino, do santuário e de Judá; e aos filhos de Arão, os sacerdotes, que os oferecessem sobre o altar do Senhor. 22 Mortos os novilhos, os sacerdotes tomaram o sangue e o aspergiram sobre o altar; mataram os carneiros e aspergiram o sangue sobre o altar; também mataram os cordeiros e aspergiram o sangue sobre o altar. 23 Para oferta pelo pecado, trouxeram os bodes perante o rei e a congregação e puseram as mãos sobre eles. 24 Os sacerdotes os mataram e, com o sangue, fizeram uma oferta pelo pecado, ao pé do altar, para expiação de todo o Israel, porque o rei tinha ordenado que se fizesse aquele holocausto e oferta pelo pecado, por todo o Israel.

25 Também estabeleceu os levitas na Casa do Senhor com címbalos, alaúdes e harpas, segundo mandado de Davi e de Gade, o vidente do rei, e do profeta Natã; porque este mandado veio do Senhor, por intermédio de seus profetas. 26 Estavam, pois, os levitas em pé com os instrumentos de Davi, e os sacerdotes, com as trombetas. 27 Deu ordem Ezequias que oferecessem o holocausto sobre o altar. Em começando o holocausto, começou também o cântico ao Senhor com as trombetas, ao som dos instrumentos de Davi, rei de Israel. 28 Toda a congregação se prostrou, quando se entoava o cântico, e as trombetas soavam; tudo isto até findar-se o holocausto. 29 Tendo eles acabado de oferecer o sacrifício, o rei e todos os que se achavam com ele prostraram-se e adoraram. 30 Então, o rei Ezequias e os príncipes ordenaram aos levitas que louvassem o Senhor com as palavras de Davi e de Asafe, o vidente. Eles o fizeram com alegria, e se inclinaram, e adoraram.

31 Disse ainda Ezequias: Agora, vos consagrastes a vós mesmos ao Senhor; chegai-vos e trazei sacrifícios e ofertas de ações de graças à Casa do Senhor. A congregação trouxe sacrifícios e ofertas de ações de graças, e todos os que estavam de coração disposto trouxeram holocaustos. 32 O número dos holocaustos, que a congregação trouxe, foi de setenta bois, cem carneiros e duzentos cordeiros; tudo isto em holocausto para o Senhor. 33 Também foram consagrados seiscentos bois e três mil ovelhas. 34 Os sacerdotes, porém, eram mui poucos e não podiam esfolar a todos os holocaustos; pelo que seus irmãos, os levitas, os ajudaram, até findar-se a obra e até que os outros sacerdotes se santificaram; porque os levitas foram mais retos de coração, para se santificarem, do que os sacerdotes. 35 Além dos holocaustos em abundância, houve também a gordura das ofertas pacíficas e as libações para os holocaustos. Assim, se estabeleceu o ministério da Casa do Senhor. 36 Ezequias e todo o povo se alegraram por causa daquilo que Deus fizera para o povo, porque, subitamente, se fez esta obra.

1 Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old; and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah.

2 And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.

3 He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.

4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the broad place on the east;

5 and said unto them: 'Hear me, ye Levites: now sanctify yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD, the God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.

6 For our fathers have acted treacherously, and done that which was evil in the sight of the LORD our God, and have forsaken Him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.

7 Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt-offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.

8 Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He hath delivered them to be a horror, an astonishment, and a hissing, as ye see with your eyes.

9 For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.

10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, that His fierce anger may turn away from us.

11 My sons, be not now negligent; for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before Him, to minister unto Him, and that ye should be His ministers, and offer unto Him.'

12 Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah;

13 and of the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Jeiel; and of the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah;

14 and of the sons of Heman, Jehiel and Shimei; and of the sons of Jeduthun, Shemaiah and Uzziel.

15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and went in, according to the commandment of the king by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD.

16 And the priests went in unto the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad to the brook Kidron.

17 Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD; and they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and on the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.

18 Then they went in to Hezekiah the king within the palace , and said: 'We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, even the altar of burnt-offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the table of showbread, with all the vessels thereof.

19 Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away when he acted treacherously, have we prepared and sanctified; and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.'

20 Then Hezekiah the king arose early, and gathered the princes of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD.

21 And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he-goats, for a sin-offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.

22 So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and dashed it against the altar; and they killed the rams, and dashed the blood against the altar; they killed also the lambs, and dashed the blood against the altar.

23 And they brought near the he-goats for the sin-offering before the king and the congregation, and they laid their hands upon them;

24 and the priests killed them, and they made a sin-offering with their blood upon the altar, to make atonement for all Israel; for the king commanded that the burnt-offering and the sin-offering should be made for all Israel.

25 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was of the LORD by His prophets.

26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

27 And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt-offering upon the altar. And when the burnt-offering began, the song of the LORD began also, and the trumpets, together with the instruments of David king of Israel.

28 And all the congregation prostrated themselves, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded; all this continued until the burnt-offering was finished.

29 And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves and prostrated themselves.

30 Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises unto the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and prostrated themselves.

31 Then Hezekiah answered and said: 'Now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank-offerings into the house of the LORD.' And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank-offerings; and as many as were of a willing heart brought burnt-offerings.

32 And the number of the burnt-offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs; all these were for a burnt-offering to the LORD.

33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep.

34 But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt-offerings; wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the priests had sanctified themselves; for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.

35 And also the burnt-offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace-offerings, and the drink-offerings for every burnt- offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was firmly established.

36 And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, because of that which God had prepared for the people; for the thing was done suddenly.
