1 Tinha Acaz vinte anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou dezesseis anos em Jerusalém; e não fez o que era reto perante o Senhor, como Davi, seu pai. 2 Andou nos caminhos dos reis de Israel e até fez imagens fundidas a baalins. 3 Também queimou incenso no vale do filho de Hinom e queimou a seus próprios filhos, segundo as abominações dos gentios que o Senhor lançara de diante dos filhos de Israel. 4 Também sacrificou e queimou incenso nos altos e nos outeiros, como também debaixo de toda árvore frondosa. 5 Pelo que o Senhor, seu Deus, o entregou nas mãos do rei dos siros, os quais o derrotaram e levaram dele em cativeiro uma grande multidão de presos, que trouxeram a Damasco; também foi entregue nas mãos do rei de Israel, o qual lhe infligiu grande derrota. 6 Porque Peca, filho de Remalias, matou em Judá, num só dia, cento e vinte mil, todos homens poderosos, por terem abandonado o Senhor, Deus de seus pais. 7 Zicri, homem valente de Efraim, matou a Maaseias, filho do rei, a Azricão, alto oficial do palácio, e a Elcana, o segundo depois do rei.

8 Os filhos de Israel levaram presos de Judá, seu povo irmão, duzentos mil: mulheres, filhos e filhas; e saquearam deles grande despojo e o trouxeram para Samaria. 9 Mas estava ali um profeta do Senhor, cujo nome era Odede, o qual saiu ao encontro do exército que vinha para Samaria e lhe disse: Eis que, irando-se o Senhor, Deus de vossos pais, contra Judá, os entregou nas vossas mãos, e vós os matastes com tamanha raiva, que chegou até aos céus. 10 Agora, cuidais em sujeitar os filhos de Judá e Jerusalém, para vos serem escravos e escravas; acaso, não sois vós mesmos culpados contra o Senhor, vosso Deus? 11 Agora, pois, atendei-me e fazei voltar os presos que trouxestes cativos de vossos irmãos, porque o brasume da ira do Senhor está sobre vós. 12 Então, se levantaram alguns homens dentre os cabeças dos filhos de Efraim, a saber, Azarias, filho de Joanã, Berequias, filho de Mesilemote, Jeizquias, filho de Salum, e Amasa, filho de Hadlai, contra os que voltavam da batalha 13 e lhes disseram: Não fareis entrar aqui esses cativos, porque intentais acrescentar aos nossos pecados e à nossa culpa diante do Senhor ainda outros; a nossa culpa já é grande, e o brasume da ira do Senhor está sobre nós. 14 Então, os homens armados deixaram os presos e o despojo diante dos príncipes e de toda a congregação. 15 Homens foram designados nominalmente, os quais se levantaram, e tomaram os cativos, e do despojo vestiram a todos os que estavam nus; vestiram-nos, e calçaram-nos, e lhes deram de comer e de beber, e os ungiram; a todos os que, por fracos, não podiam andar, levaram sobre jumentos a Jericó, cidade das Palmeiras, a seus irmãos. Então, voltaram para Samaria.

16 Naquele tempo, mandou o rei Acaz pedir aos reis da Assíria que o ajudassem. 17 Pois vieram, de novo, os edomitas, e derrotaram Judá, e levaram presos em cativeiro. 18 Também os filisteus deram contra as cidades da campina e do sul de Judá, e tomaram Bete-Semes, Aijalom, Gederote, Socó e suas aldeias, Timna e suas aldeias e Ginzo e suas aldeias; e habitavam ali. 19 Porque o Senhor humilhou a Judá por causa de Acaz, rei de Israel; porque este permitira que Judá caísse em dissolução, e ele, de todo, se entregou à transgressão contra o Senhor. 20 Veio a ele Tiglate-Pileser, rei da Assíria; porém o pôs em aperto, em vez de fortalecê-lo. 21 Porque Acaz tomou despojos da Casa do Senhor, da casa do rei e da dos príncipes e os deu ao rei da Assíria; porém isso não o ajudou.

22 No tempo da sua angústia, cometeu ainda maiores transgressões contra o Senhor; ele mesmo, o rei Acaz. 23 Pois ofereceu sacrifícios aos deuses de Damasco, que o feriram, e disse: Visto que os deuses dos reis da Síria os ajudam, eu lhes oferecerei sacrifícios para que me ajudem a mim. Porém eles foram a sua ruína e a de todo o Israel. 24 Ajuntou Acaz os utensílios da Casa de Deus, fê-los em pedaços e fechou as portas da Casa do Senhor; e fez para si altares em todos os cantos de Jerusalém. 25 Também, em cada cidade de Judá, fez altos para queimar incenso a outros deuses; assim, provocou à ira o Senhor, Deus de seus pais.

26 Quanto aos mais atos dele e a todos os seus caminhos, tanto os primeiros como os últimos, eis que estão escritos no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá e de Israel. 27 Descansou Acaz com seus pais, e o sepultaram na cidade, em Jerusalém, porém não o puseram nos sepulcros dos reis de Israel; e Ezequias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, like David his father;

2 but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for the Baalim.

3 Moreover he offered in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

4 And he sacrificed and offered in the high places, and on the hills, and under every leafy tree.

5 Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Aram; and they smote him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers.

7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.

8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them: 'Behold, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was wroth with Judah, He hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage which hath reached up unto heaven.

10 And now ye purpose to bring the children of Judah and Jerusalem into subjection for bondmen and bondwomen unto you; but are there not even with you acts of guilt of your own against the LORD your God?

11 Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that ye have taken captive of your brethren; for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.'

12 Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Jehohanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

13 and said unto them: 'Ye shall not bring in the captives hither; for ye purpose that which will bring upon us guilt against the LORD, to add unto our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.'

14 So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.

15 And the men that have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm-trees, unto their brethren; then they returned to Samaria.

16 At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

17 For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

18 The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the Lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with the towns thereof, and Timnah with the towns thereof, Gimzo also and the towns thereof; and they dwelt there.

19 For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he had cast away restraint in Judah, and acted treacherously against the LORD.

20 And Tillegath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

21 For Ahaz stripped the house of the LORD, and the house of the king and the princes, and gave thereof unto the king of Assyria; but it helped him not.

22 And in the time of his distress did he act even more treacherously against the LORD, this same king Ahaz.

23 For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said: 'Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me.' But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD; and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

25 And in every city of Judah he made high places to offer unto other gods, and provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers.

26 Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem; for they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
