1 Veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 2 Filho do homem, volve o rosto contra Jerusalém, derrama as tuas palavras contra os santuários e profetiza contra a terra de Israel. 3 Dize à terra de Israel: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que sou contra ti, e tirarei a minha espada da bainha, e eliminarei do meio de ti tanto o justo como o perverso. 4 Porque hei de eliminar do meio de ti o justo e o perverso, a minha espada sairá da bainha contra todo vivente, desde o Sul até ao Norte. 5 Saberão todos os homens que eu, o Senhor, tirei da bainha a minha espada; jamais voltará a ela. 6 Tu, porém, ó filho do homem, suspira; à vista deles, suspira de coração quebrantado e com amargura. 7 Quando te perguntarem: Por que suspiras tu? Então, dirás: Por causa das novas. Quando elas vêm, todo coração desmaia, todas as mãos se afrouxam, todo espírito se angustia, e todos os joelhos se desfazem em água; eis que elas vêm e se cumprirão, diz o Senhor Deus.

8 Veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 9 Filho do homem, profetiza e dize: Assim diz o Senhor: A espada, a espada está afiada e polida; 10 afiada para matança, polida para reluzir como relâmpago. Israel diz: Alegremo-nos! O cetro do meu filho despreza qualquer outra madeira. 11 Mas Deus responde: Deu-se a espada a polir, para ser manejada; ela está afiada e polida, para ser posta na mão do matador. 12 Grita e geme, ó filho do homem, porque ela será contra o meu povo, contra todos os príncipes de Israel. Estes, juntamente com o meu povo, estão entregues à espada; dá, pois, pancadas na tua coxa. 13 Pois haverá uma prova; e que haverá, se o próprio cetro que desprezou a todos não vier a subsistir? — diz o Senhor Deus. 14 Tu, pois, ó filho do homem, profetiza e bate com as palmas uma na outra; duplique a espada o seu golpe, triplique-o a espada da matança, da grande matança, que os rodeia; 15 para que desmaie o seu coração, e se multiplique o seu tropeçar junto a todas as portas. Faço reluzir a espada. Ah! Ela foi feita para ser raio e está afiada para matar. 16 Ó espada, vira-te, com toda a força, para a direita, vira-te para a esquerda, para onde quer que o teu rosto se dirigir. 17 Também eu baterei as minhas palmas uma na outra e desafogarei o meu furor; eu, o Senhor, é que falei.

18 Veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 19 Tu, pois, ó filho do homem, propõe dois caminhos por onde venha a espada do rei da Babilônia; ambos procederão da mesma terra; põe neles marcos indicadores, põe-nos na entrada do caminho para a cidade. 20 Indica o caminho para que a espada chegue à Rabá dos filhos de Amom, a Judá e a Jerusalém, a fortificada. 21 Porque o rei da Babilônia para na encruzilhada, na entrada dos dois caminhos, para consultar os oráculos: sacode as flechas, interroga os ídolos do lar, examina o fígado. 22 Caiu-lhe o oráculo para a direita, sobre Jerusalém, para dispor os aríetes, para abrir a boca com ordens de matar, para lançar gritos de guerra, para colocar os aríetes contra as portas, para levantar terraplenos, para edificar baluartes. 23 Aos judeus, lhes parecerá isto oráculo enganador, pois têm em seu favor juramentos solenes; mas Deus se lembrará da iniquidade deles, para que sejam apreendidos.

24 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Deus: Visto que me fazeis lembrar da vossa iniquidade, descobrindo-se as vossas transgressões, aparecendo os vossos pecados em todos os vossos atos, e visto que me viestes à memória, sereis apreendidos por causa disso. 25 E tu, ó profano e perverso, príncipe de Israel, cujo dia virá no tempo do seu castigo final; 26 assim diz o Senhor Deus: Tira o diadema e remove a coroa; o que é já não será o mesmo; será exaltado o humilde e abatido o soberbo. 27 Ruína! Ruína! A ruínas a reduzirei, e ela já não será, até que venha aquele a quem ela pertence de direito; a ele a darei.

28 E tu, ó filho do homem, profetiza e dize: Assim diz o Senhor Deus acerca dos filhos de Amom e acerca dos seus insultos; dize, pois: A espada, a espada está desembainhada, polida para a matança, para consumir, para reluzir como relâmpago; 29 para ser posta no pescoço dos profanos, dos perversos, cujo dia virá no tempo do castigo final, ao passo que te pregam visões falsas e te adivinham mentiras. 30 Torna a tua espada à sua bainha. No lugar em que foste formado, na terra do teu nascimento, te julgarei. 31 Derramarei sobre ti a minha indignação, assoprarei contra ti o fogo do meu furor e te entregarei nas mãos de homens brutais, mestres de destruição. 32 Servirás de pasto ao fogo, o teu sangue será derramado no meio da terra, já não serás lembrado; pois eu, o Senhor, é que falei.

1 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

2 'Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and preach toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the land of Israel;

3 and say to the land of Israel: Thus saith the LORD: Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth My sword out of its sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.

4 Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall My sword go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north;

5 and all flesh shall know that I the LORD have drawn forth My sword out of its sheath; it shall not return any more.

6 Sigh therefore, thou son of man; with the breaking of thy loins and with bitterness shalt thou sigh before their eyes.

7 And it shall be, when they say unto thee: Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say: Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be slack, and every spirit shall be faint, and all knees shall drip with water; behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.'

8 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

9 'Son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus saith the LORD: Say: A sword, a sword, it is sharpened, and also furbished:

10 It is sharpened that it may make a sore slaughter, it is furbished that it may glitter--or shall we make mirth?--against the rod of My son, contemning every tree.

11 And it is given to be furbished, that it may be handled; the sword, it is sharpened, yea, it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.

12 Cry and wail, son of man; for it is upon My people, it is upon all the princes of Israel; they are thrust down to the sword with My people; smite therefore upon thy thigh.

13 For there is a trial; and what if it contemn even the rod? It shall be no more, saith the Lord GOD.

14 Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thy hands together; and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of those to be slain; it is the sword of the great one that is to be slain, which compasseth them about.

15 I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may melt, and their stumblings be multiplied; ah! it is made glittering, it is sharpened for slaughter.

16 Go thee one way to the right, or direct thyself to the left; whither is thy face set?

17 I will also smite My hands together, and I will satisfy My fury; I the LORD have spoken it.'

18 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

19 'Now, thou son of man, make thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come; they twain shall come forth out of one land; and mark a signpost, mark it clear at the head of the way to the city.

20 Thou shalt make a way, that the sword may come to Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and to Judah in Jerusalem the fortified.

21 For the king of Babylon standeth at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination; he shaketh the arrows to and fro, he inquireth of the teraphim, he looketh in the liver.

22 In his right hand is the lot Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth for the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build forts.

23 And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, who have weeks upon weeks! but it bringeth iniquity to remembrance, that they may be taken.

24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that your sins do appear in all your doings; because that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.

25 And thou, O wicked one, that art to be slain, the prince of Israel, whose day is come, in the time of the iniquity of the end;

26 thus saith the Lord GOD: The mitre shall be removed, and the crown taken off; this shall be no more the same: that which is low shall be exalted, and that which is high abased.

27 A ruin, a ruin, a ruin, will I make it; this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is, and I will give it him.

28 And thou, son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the children of Ammon, and concerning their taunt; and say thou: O sword, O sword keen-edged, furbished for the slaughter, to the uttermost, because of the glitterings;

29 While they see falsehood unto thee, while they divine lies unto thee, to lay thee upon the necks of the wicked that are to be slain, whose day is come, in the time of the iniquity of the end!

30 Cause it to return into its sheath!--In the place where thou wast created, in the land of thine origin, will I judge thee.

31 And I will pour out My indignation upon thee, I will blow upon thee with the fire of My wrath; and I will deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, skilful to destroy.

32 Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land, thou shalt be no more remembered; for I the LORD have spoken it.'
