1 No undécimo ano, no primeiro dia do mês, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 2 Filho do homem, visto que Tiro disse no tocante a Jerusalém: Bem feito! Está quebrada a porta dos povos; abriu-se para mim; eu me tornarei rico, agora que ela está assolada, 3 assim diz o Senhor Deus: Eis que eu estou contra ti, ó Tiro, e farei subir contra ti muitas nações, como faz o mar subir as suas ondas. 4 Elas destruirão os muros de Tiro e deitarão abaixo as suas torres; e eu varrerei o seu pó, e farei dela penha descalvada. 5 No meio do mar, virá a ser um enxugadouro de redes, porque eu o anunciei, diz o Senhor Deus; e ela servirá de despojo para as nações. 6 Suas filhas que estão no continente serão mortas à espada; e saberão que eu sou o Senhor.

7 Porque assim diz o Senhor Deus: Eis que eu trarei contra Tiro a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, desde o Norte, o rei dos reis, com cavalos, carros e cavaleiros e com a multidão de muitos povos. 8 As tuas filhas que estão no continente, ele as matará à espada; levantará baluarte contra ti; contra ti levantará terrapleno e um telhado de paveses. 9 Disporá os seus aríetes contra os teus muros e, com os seus ferros, deitará abaixo as tuas torres. 10 Pela multidão de seus cavalos, te cobrirá de pó; os teus muros tremerão com o estrondo dos cavaleiros, das carretas e dos carros, quando ele entrar pelas tuas portas, como pelas entradas de uma cidade em que se fez brecha. 11 Com as unhas dos seus cavalos, socará todas as tuas ruas; ao teu povo matará à espada, e as tuas fortes colunas cairão por terra. 12 Roubarão as tuas riquezas, saquearão as tuas mercadorias, derribarão os teus muros e arrasarão as tuas casas preciosas; as tuas pedras, as tuas madeiras e o teu pó lançarão no meio das águas. 13 Farei cessar o arruído das tuas cantigas, e já não se ouvirá o som das tuas harpas. 14 Farei de ti uma penha descalvada; virás a ser um enxugadouro de redes, jamais serás edificada, porque eu, o Senhor, o falei, diz o Senhor Deus.

15 Assim diz o Senhor Deus a Tiro: Não tremerão as terras do mar com o estrondo da tua queda, quando gemerem os traspassados, quando se fizer espantosa matança no meio de ti? 16 Todos os príncipes do mar descerão dos seus tronos, tirarão de si os seus mantos e despirão as suas vestes bordadas; de tremores se vestirão, assentar-se-ão na terra e estremecerão a cada momento; e, por tua causa, pasmarão. 17 Levantarão lamentações sobre ti e te dirão: Como pereceste, ó bem-povoada e afamada cidade, que foste forte no mar, tu e os teus moradores, que atemorizastes a todos os teus visitantes! 18 Agora, estremecerão as ilhas no dia da tua queda; as ilhas, que estão no mar, turbar-se-ão com tua saída. 19 Porque assim diz o Senhor Deus: Quando eu te fizer cidade assolada, como as cidades que não se habitam, quando eu fizer vir sobre ti as ondas do mar e as muitas águas te cobrirem, 20 então, te farei descer com os que descem à cova, ao povo antigo, e te farei habitar nas mais baixas partes da terra, em lugares desertos antigos, com os que descem à cova, para que não sejas habitada; e criarei coisas gloriosas na terra dos viventes. 21 Farei de ti um grande espanto, e já não serás; quando te buscarem, jamais serás achada, diz o Senhor Deus.

1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

2 'Son of man, because that Tyre hath said against Jerusalem: Aha, she is broken that was the gate of the peoples; she is turned unto me; I shall be filled with her that is laid waste;

3 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against thee, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against thee, as the sea causeth its waves to come up.

4 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre, and break down her towers; I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her a bare rock.

5 She shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea; for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD; and she shall become a spoil to the nations.

6 And her daughters that are in the field shall be slain with the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

7 For thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I will bring upon Tyre Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and a company, and much people.

8 He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field; and he shall make forts against thee, and cast up a mound against thee, and set up bucklers against thee.

9 And he shall set his battering engines against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers.

10 By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee; at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, thy walls shall shake, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach.

11 With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all thy streets; he shall slay thy people with the sword, and the pillars of thy strength shall go down to the ground.

12 And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise; and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy the houses of thy delight; and thy stones and thy timber and thy dust shall they lay in the midst of the waters.

13 And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease, and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard.

14 And I will make thee a bare rock; thou shalt be a place for the spreading of nets, thou shalt be built no more; for I the LORD have spoken, saith the Lord GOD.

15 Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyre: Shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded groan, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?

16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and strip off their richly woven garments; they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble every moment, and be appalled at thee.

17 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee: how art thou destroyed, that wast peopled from the seas, the renowned city, that wast strong in the sea, thou and thy inhabitants, that caused your terror to be on all that inhabit the earth!

18 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be affrighted at thy going out.

19 For thus saith the Lord GOD: When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and the great waters shall cover thee;

20 then will I bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, to the people of old time, and will make thee to dwell in the nether parts of the earth, like the places that are desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I will set glory in the land of the living;

21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more; though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.'
