1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered. 3 And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,

He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:

and,

On their hands they shall bear thee up,

Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

1 Siis Vaim viis Jeesuse kõrbe kuradi kiusata.

2 Ja kui Ta oli paastunud nelikümmend päeva ja nelikümmend ööd, tuli Temale viimaks nälg kätte.

3 Ja kiusaja tuli Ta juure ning ütles Temale: „Kui Sa oled Jumala Poeg, siis ütle, et need kivid leivuks saaksid!"

4 Aga Tema vastas ning ütles: „Kirjutatud on: Inimene ei ela ükspäinis leivast, vaid igaühest sõnast, mis lähtub Jumala suust!"

5 Siis kurat võttis Tema enesega pühasse linna ja asetas Ta pühakoja harjale

6 ja ütles Temale: „Oled Sa Jumala Poeg, siis kukuta Ennast alla, sest kirjutatud on: Tema annab Oma Inglitele käsu Sinu pärast, ja Nemad kannavad Sind kätel, et Sa Oma jalga vastu kivi ei tõukaks!"

7 Jeesus ütles temale: „Taas on kirjutatud: Ära kiusa Issandat, Oma Jumalat!"

8 Jällegi võttis kurat Ta Enesega väga kõrgele mäele ja näitas Talle kõik maailma kuningriigid ja nende hiilguse

9 ning ütles Temale: „Selle kõik Ma annan Sinule, kui Sa maha langed ja mind kummardad!"

10 Siis Jeesus ütles temale: „Tagane Minust, saatan! Sest on kirjutatud: Sina pead Issandat, Oma Jumalat kummardama ja ükspäinis Teda teenima!"

11 Siis kurat jättis Ta rahule. Ja vaata, Ingleid tuli Tema juure, ja Need teenisid Teda.
