1 Make clear to them that they are to put themselves under rulers and authorities, to do what they are ordered, to be ready for every good work,
2 To say no evil of any man, not to be fighters, to give way to others, to be gentle in behaviour to all men.
3 For in the past we were foolish, hard in heart, turned from the true way, servants of evil desires and pleasures, living in bad feeling and envy, hated and hating one another.
4 But when the mercy of God our Saviour, and his love to man was seen,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but in the measure of his mercy, he gave us salvation, through the washing of the new birth and the giving of new life in the Holy Spirit,
6 Which he gave us freely through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 So that, having been given righteousness through grace, we might have a part in the heritage, the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a true saying; and it is my desire that you may give certain witness about these things, so that those who have had faith in God may give attention to good works. These things are good and of profit to men;
9 But have nothing to do with foolish questionings, and lists of generations, and fights and arguments about the law; for they are of no profit and foolish.
10 A man whose opinions are not those of the church, after a first and second protest, is to be kept out of your society;
11 Clearly he is in error and a sinner, being self-judged.
12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis: for it is my purpose to be there for the winter.
13 Send Zenas, the man of law, and Apollos on their journey with all care, so that they may be in need of nothing.
14 And let our people go on with good works for necessary purposes, so that they may not be without fruit.
15 All who are with me send you their love. Give our love to our friends in the faith. Grace be with you all.
1 Lembra a todos que devem sujeitar-se aos governantes e autoridades instituídas, e obedecer às leis, estando prontos a participar em qualquer obra boa.
2 Não devem falar mal de ninguém, nem meter-se em disputas; devem antes ser amáveis, mostrando simpatia para com toda a gente.
3 Porque nós também, noutro tempo, éramos insensatos, revoltados, andávamos ao sabor da opinião de outras pessoas, dominados por paixões variadas e por deleites dos sentidos; vivíamos sob a lei da maldade, da inveja e do ódio, e por isso nos odiávamos uns aos outros.
4 Mas quando a bondade e o amor divino de Deus nosso Salvador se manifestaram para com a humanidade,u
5 ele nos salvou pela lavagem purificadora do Espírito Santo, da qual emergimos como novamente nascidos, não por causa de actos justos que tivéssemos praticado, mas por causa da sua misericórdia
6 Esse Espírito Santo, Deus o derramou abundantemente sobre nós, através de Jesus Cristo nosso Salvador
7 E desta forma, sendo declarados justos pela sua graça, tornámo-nos herdeiros da esperança da vida eterna.
8 O que te tenho dito merece toda a confiança. E quero que insistas nisto com firmeza para que os que crêem em Deus procurem aplicar-se à prática do bem. Uma vida assim é recta e torna-se proveitosa para toda a gente.
9 E não te deixes envolver em discussões insensatas e genealogias e contendas sobre a obediência às leis judaicas. São coisas inúteis e sem verdadeiro significado.
10 Se alguém estiver a causar divisões avisa-o uma primeira e segunda vez; mas se não se convencer, afasta-te dele.
11 O seu entendimento está pervertido; por isso peca, e já tem a sua própria condenação.
12 Assim que te tiver enviado Artemas e Tíquico, procura vir ter comigo a Nicópolis, porque decidi passar aí o Inverno.
13 Peço-te que ajudes Zenas, o jurista, e Apolo na sua viagem, para que nada lhes falte.
14 É preciso que os cristãos das nossas congregações saibam o que é praticar o bem e ajudar os outros em caso de necessidade. Só assim as suas vidas não ficarão improdutivas.
15 Todos os que aqui estão comigo te mandam saudações. E tu saúda os que nos amam na fé ue a graça de Deus seja com todos vocês.
