1 Apoi Isus a chemat pe cei doisprezece ucenici ai Săi, şi le -a dat putere să scoată afară duhurile necurate, şi să tămăduiască orice fel de boală şi orice fel de neputinţă.
2 Iată numele celor doisprezece apostoli: Cel dintîi, Simon, zis Petru, şi Andrei, fratele lui; Iacov, fiul lui Zebedei, şi Ioan, fratele lui;
3 Filip şi Bartolomeu; Toma şi Matei, vameşul; Iacov, fiul lui Alfeu, şi Levi, zis şi Tadeu;
4 Simon Cananitul, şi Iuda Iscarioteanul, cel care a vîndut pe Isus.
5 Aceştia sînt cei doisprezece, pe cari i -a trimes Isus, după ce le -a dat învăţăturile următoare: Să nu mergeţi pe calea păgînilor şi să nu intraţi în vreo cetate a Samaritenilor;
6 ci să mergeţi mai de grabă la oile pierdute ale casei lui Israel.
7 Şi pe drum, propovăduiţi, şi ziceţi: ,,Împărăţia cerurilor este aproape!``
8 Vindecaţi pe bolnavi, înviaţi pe morţi, curăţiţi pe leproşi, scoateţi afară dracii. Fără plată aţi primit, fără plată să daţi.
9 Să nu luaţi nici aur, nici argint, nici aramă în brîele voastre,
10 nici traistă pentru drum, nici două haine, nici încălţăminte, nici toiag, căci vrednic este lucrătorul de hrana lui.
11 În orice cetate sau sat veţi intra, să cercetaţi cine este acolo vrednic şi să rămîneţi la el pînă veţi pleca.
12 La intrarea voastră în casă, uraţi -i de bine;
13 şi dacă este casa aceea vrednică, pacea voastră să vină peste ea; dar dacă nu este vrednică, pacea voastră să se întoarcă la voi.
14 Dacă nu vă va primi cineva, nici nu va asculta cuvintele voastre, să ieşiţi din casa sau din cetatea aceea, şi să scuturaţi praful de pe picioarele voastre.``
15 Adevărat vă spun că, în ziua judecăţii, va fi mai uşor pentru ţinutul Sodomei şi Gomorei, decît pentru cetatea aceea.
16 Iată, Eu vă trimet ca pe nişte oi în mijlocul lupilor. Fiţi dar înţelepţi ca şerpii, şi fără răutate ca porumbeii.
17 Păziţi-vă de oameni; căci vă vor da în judecata soboarelor, şi vă vor bate în sinagogile lor.
18 Din pricina Mea, veţi fi duşi înaintea dregătorilor şi înaintea împăraţilor, ca să slujiţi ca mărturie înaintea lor şi înaintea Neamurilor.
19 Dar, cînd vă vor da în mîna lor, să nu vă îngrijoraţi, gîndindu-vă cum sau ce veţi spune; căci ce veţi avea de spus, vă va fi dat chiar în ceasul acela;
20 fiindcă nu voi veţi vorbi, ci Duhul Tatălui vostru va vorbi în voi.
21 Fratele va da la moarte pe frate-său, şi tatăl pe copilul lui; copiii se vor scula împotriva părinţilor lor, şi -i vor omorî.
22 Veţi fi urîţi de toţi, din pricina Numelui Meu; dar cine va răbda pînă la sfîrşit, va fi mîntuit.
23 Cînd vă vor prigoni într'o cetate, să fugiţi într'alta. Adevărat vă spun că nu veţi isprăvi de străbătut cetăţile lui Israel pînă va veni Fiul omului.
24 Ucenicul nu este mai pe sus de învăţătorul său, nici robul mai pe sus de domnul său.
25 Ajunge ucenicului să fie ca învăţătorul lui, şi robului să fie ca domnul lui. Dacă pe Stăpînul casei L-au numit Beelzebul, cu cît mai mult vor numi aşa, pe cei din casa lui?
26 Aşa că să nu vă temeţi de ei. Căci nu este nimic ascuns care nu va fi descoperit, şi nimic tăinuit care nu va fi cunoscut.
27 Ce vă spun Eu la întunerec, voi să spuneţi la lumină; şi ce auziţi şoptindu-se la ureche, să propovăduiţi de pe acoperişul caselor.
28 Nu vă temeţi de cei ce ucid trupul, dar cari nu pot ucide sufletul; ci temeţi-vă mai degrabă de Celce poate să piardă şi sufletul şi trupul în gheenă.
29 Nu se vînd oare două vrăbii la un ban? Totuş, nici una din ele nu cade pe pămînt fără voia Tatălui vostru.
30 Cît despre voi, pînă şi perii din cap, toţi vă sînt număraţi.
31 Deci să nu vă temeţi; voi sînteţi mai de preţ decît multe vrăbii.
32 Deaceea, pe orişicine Mă va mărturisi înaintea oamenilor, îl voi mărturisi şi Eu înaintea Tatălui Meu care este în ceruri;
33 dar de oricine se va lepăda de Mine înaintea oamenilor, Mă voi lepăda şi Eu înaintea Tatălui Meu care este în ceruri.
34 Să nu credeţi că am venit s'aduc pacea pe pămînt; n'am venit să aduc pacea, ci sabia.
35 Căci am venit să despart pe fiu de tatăl său, pe fiică de mamă-sa, şi pe noră de soacră-sa.
36 Şi omul va avea de vrăjmaşi chiar pe cei din casa lui.
37 Cine iubeşte pe tată, ori pe mamă, mai mult decît pe Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine; şi cine iubeşte pe fiu ori pe fiică mai mult decît pe Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine.
38 Cine nu-şi ia crucea lui, şi nu vine după Mine, nu este vrednic de Mine.
39 Cine îşi va păstra viaţa, o va pierde; şi cine îşi va pierde viaţa, pentru Mine, o va cîştiga.
40 Cine vă primeşte pe voi, Mă primeşte pe Mine; şi cine Mă primeşte pe Mine, primeşte pe Cel ce M'a trimes pe Mine.
41 Cine primeşte un prooroc, în numele unui prooroc, va primi răsplata unui prooroc; şi cine primeşte pe un om neprihănit, în numele unui om neprihănit, va primi răsplata unui om neprihănit.
42 Şi oricine va da de băut numai un pahar de apă rece unuia din aceşti micuţi, în numele unui ucenic, adevărat vă spun că nu-şi va pierde răsplata.``
1 And having called to him his twelve disciples, he gave to them power over unclean spirits, so as to be casting them out, and to be healing every sickness, and every malady.
2 And of the twelve apostles the names are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax-gatherer; James of Alpheus, and Lebbeus who was surnamed Thaddeus;
4 Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who did also deliver him up.
5 These twelve did Jesus send forth, having given command to them, saying, `To the way of the nations go not away, and into a city of the Samaritans go not in,
6 and be going rather unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 `And, going on, proclaim saying that, the reign of the heavens hath come nigh;
8 infirm ones be healing, lepers be cleansing, dead be raising, demons be casting out -- freely ye did receive, freely give.
9 `Provide not gold, nor silver, nor brass in your girdles,
10 nor scrip for the way, nor two coats, nor sandals, nor staff -- for the workman is worthy of his nourishment.
11 `And into whatever city or village ye may enter, inquire ye who in it is worthy, and there abide, till ye may go forth.
12 And coming to the house salute it,
13 and if indeed the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it; and if it be not worthy, let your peace turn back to you.
14 `And whoever may not receive you nor hear your words, coming forth from that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet,
15 verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
16 `Lo, I do send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves, be ye therefore wise as the serpents, and simple as the doves.
17 And, take ye heed of men, for they will give you up to sanhedrims, and in their synagogues they will scourge you,
18 and before governors and kings ye shall be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.
19 `And whenever they may deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye may speak, for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak;
20 for ye are not the speakers, but the Spirit of your Father that is speaking in you.
21 `And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death,
22 and ye shall be hated by all because of my name, but he who hath endured to the end, he shall be saved.
23 `And whenever they may persecute you in this city, flee to the other, for verily I say to you, ye may not have completed the cities of Israel till the Son of Man may come.
24 `A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord;
25 sufficient to the disciple that he may be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord; if the master of the house they did call Beelzeboul, how much more those of his household?
26 `Ye may not, therefore, fear them, for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed, and hid, that shall not be known;
27 that which I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light, and that which you hear at the ear, proclaim on the house-tops.
28 `And be not afraid of those killing the body, and are not able to kill the soul, but fear rather Him who is able both soul and body to destroy in gehenna.
29 `Are not two sparrows sold for an assar? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father;
30 and of you -- even the hairs of the head are all numbered;
31 be not therefore afraid, than many sparrows ye are better.
32 `Every one, therefore, who shall confess in me before men, I also will confess in him before my Father who is in the heavens;
33 and whoever shall deny me before men, I also will deny him before my Father who is in the heavens.
34 `Ye may not suppose that I came to put peace on the earth; I did not come to put peace, but a sword;
35 for I came to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,
36 and the enemies of a man are those of his household.
37 `He who is loving father or mother above me, is not worthy of me, and he who is loving son or daughter above me, is not worthy of me,
38 and whoever doth not receive his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.
39 `He who found his life shall lose it, and he who lost his life for my sake shall find it.
40 `He who is receiving you doth receive me, and he who is receiving me doth receive Him who sent me,
41 he who is receiving a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet`s reward, and he who is receiving a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man`s reward,
42 and whoever may give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say to you, he may not lose his reward.`
