Isaiah 60

The Lord’s Glory in Zion

1 Arise, shine, for your light has come 60:1 Is 9:2; 26:19; 30:26; 51:17; 52:2; Eph 5:14

and the glory of the  Lord  shines over you 60:1 = Jerusalem, 60:1 Is 40:5; 58:8; Mal 4:2

2 For look, darkness will cover the earth,

and total darkness the peoples;

but the Lord will shine over you,

and his glory will appear over you.

3 Nations will come to your light,

and kings to your shining brightness 60:3 Is 42:6; 49:6; Rv 21:24

4 Raise your eyes and look around:

they all gather and come to you;

your sons will come from far away,

and your daughters on the hips of nursing mothers 60:4 Is 49:18–22

5 Then you will see and be radiant 60:5 Ps 34:5

and your heart will tremble and rejoice 60:5 Lit expand

because the riches of the sea will become yours

and the wealth of the nations will come to you 60:5 Is 61:6

6 Caravans of camels will cover your land  60:6 Lit cover you  

young camels of Midian and Ephah 

all of them will come from Sheba 60:6 Gn 25:3; Ps 72:10

They will carry gold and frankincense  60:6 Mt 2:11

and proclaim the praises of the  Lord.

7 All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you;

the rams of Nebaioth will serve you  60:7 Gn 25:13

and go up on my altar as an acceptable sacrifice 60:7 Is 19:19; 56:7

I will glorify my beautiful house 60:7 Is 60:13; Hg 2:7,9

8 Who are these who fly like cloud,

like doves to their shelters 60:8 Hs 11:11

9 Yes, the coasts and islands will wait for me  60:9 Is 51:5

with the ships of Tarshish in the lead 60:9 Ps 48:7; Is 2:16

to bring your children from far away 60:9 Is 14:2; 43:6; 49:22

their silver and gold with them,

for the honor of the  Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel 60:9 Is 1:4; 60:14

who has glorified you 60:9 Is 55:5

10 Foreigners will rebuild your walls 60:10 Is 14:1–2; 61:5; Zch 6:15

and their kings will serve you 60:10 Is 49:7,23; Rv 21:24

Although I struck you in my wrath,

yet I will show mercy to you with my favor 60:10 Hab 3:2

11 Your city gates will always be open;

they will never be shut day or night

so that the wealth of the nations

may be brought into you 60:11 Rv 21:25–26

with their kings being led in procession.

12 For the nation and the kingdom

that will not serve you will perish;

those nations will be annihilated 60:12 Zch 14:17–19

13 The glory of Lebanon will come to you  60:13 Is 35:2  

its pine, elm, and cypress together  60:13 Is 41:19  

to beautify the place of my sanctuary,

and I will glorify my dwelling place 60:13 Lit glorify the place of my feet

14 The sons of your oppressors

will come and bow down to you 60:14 Is 14:1–2; Zch 8:23

all who reviled you

will fall facedown at your feet 60:14 Is 49:23; Rv 3:9

They will call you the City of the  Lord,

Zion of the Holy One of Israel 60:14 Is 1:26

15 Instead of your being deserted and hated,

with no one passing through 60:15 Is 34:10

I will make you an object of eternal pride 60:15 Is 65:18

a joy from age to age.

16 You will nurse on the milk of nations,

and nurse at the breast of kings 60:16 Is 49:23; 66:11–12

you will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior  60:16 Is 43:3; 49:26

and Redeemer 60:16 Is 41:14; 43:14 the Mighty One of Jacob 60:16 Gn 49:24; Ps 132:2,5; Is 49:26

17 I will bring gold instead of bronze;

I will bring silver instead of iron,

bronze instead of wood,

and iron instead of stones.

I will appoint peace as your government

and righteousness as your overseers.

18 Violence will never again be heard of in your land 60:18 Is 11:9

devastation and destruction

will be gone from your borders.

You will call your walls Salvation  60:18 Is 26:1

and your city gates Praise.

19 The sun will no longer be your light by day,

and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you.

The Lord will be your everlasting light 60:19 Zch 14:6–7; Rv 21:23; 22:5

and your God will be your splendor.

20 Your sun will no longer set,

and your moon will not fade;

for the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and the days of your sorrow will be over 60:20 Is 35:10; 65:19; Rv 21:4

21 All your people will be righteous 60:21 Is 52:1

they will possess the land forever 60:21 Ps 37:9; Ezk 37:25

they are the branch planted,

the work of my  60:21 LXX, DSS read his  hands,

so that I may be glorified 60:21 Is 61:3

22 The least will become thousand,

the smallest mighty nation.

I am the Lord;

I will accomplish it quickly in its time.
