1 推罗王希兰派使者来见大卫， 给他送上香柏木、石匠和木匠， 要为他建造宫殿。
2 那时， 大卫知道耶和华已经坚立他作王统治以色列， 又为了以色列民的缘故， 使他的国高举。
3 大卫在耶路撒冷又娶了多位妻子， 并且生了很多儿女。
4 以下这些就是他在耶路撒冷所生的孩子的名字： 沙母亚、朔罢、拿单、所罗门、
5 益辖、以利书亚、以法列、
6 挪迦、尼斐、雅非亚、
7 以利沙玛、以利雅大和以利法列。
8 非利士人听见了大卫受膏作王统治以色列人， 就全体上来搜寻大卫； 大卫听见了， 就出来迎击他们。
9 非利士人来到， 侵进了利乏音谷。
10 大卫求问 神说： "我可以上去攻打非利士人吗？你把他们交在我手里吗？"耶和华对他说： "你可以上去， 我必把他们交在你的手里。"
11 非利士人上到巴力．毗拉心来， 大卫在那里击败了他们。大卫说： " 神借着我击溃我的敌人， 好像水冲破堤岸一般。"因此他们给那地方起名叫巴力．毗拉心。
12 非利士人把他们的神像遗弃在那里， 大卫吩咐人用火把它们烧了。
13 非利士人又再入侵那山谷。
14 大卫又求问 神， 神对他说： "不可在后面追赶他们， 要绕过他们， 从桑林对面攻打他们。
15 你一听见桑林树梢上有脚步的声音， 就要出战， 因为 神已经在你前面出去击杀非利士人的军队了。"
16 于是大卫照着 神所吩咐他的去作， 他们攻击非利士人的军队， 从基遍起， 一直攻打到基色。
17 因此大卫的名声传遍各地， 耶和华使万国都惧怕他。
1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house. 2 And David perceived that Jehovah had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel’s sake.
3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begat more sons and daughters. 4 And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, 5 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet, 6 and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia, 7 and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them. 9 Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. 10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand. 11 So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said, God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim. 12 And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13 And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley. 14 And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Thou shalt not go up after them: turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees. 15 And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. 16 And David did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer. 17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and Jehovah brought the fear of him upon all nations.
