1 Coríntios 6

1 Dare any one of you, having a matter against another, prosecute his suit before the unjust, and not before the saints? 2 Do ye not then know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy of the smallest judgments? 3 Do ye not know that we shall judge angels? and not then matters of this life? 4 If then ye have judgments as to things of this life, set those to judge who are little esteemed in the assembly. 5 I speak to you to put you to shame. Thus there is not a wise person among you, not even one, who shall be able to decide between his brethren! 6 But brother prosecutes his suit with brother, and that before unbelievers. 7 Already indeed then it is altogether a fault in you that ye have suits between yourselves. Why do ye not rather suffer wrong? why are ye not rather defrauded? 8 But ye do wrong, and defraud, and this your brethren.

9 Do ye not know that unrighteous persons shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor the rapacious, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

12 All things are lawful to me, but all things do not profit; all things are lawful to me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God will bring to nothing both it and them: but the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 And God has both raised up the Lord, and will raise us up from among the dead by his power. 15 Do ye not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then, taking the members of the Christ, make them members of a harlot? Far be the thought. 16 Do ye not know that he that is joined to the harlot is one body? for the two, he says, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined to the Lord is one Spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. 19 Do ye not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God; and ye are not your own? 20 for ye have been bought with a price: glorify now then God in your body.

1 Wanneer iemand van jullie een geschil heeft met een ander, hoe durf je het dan voor te leggen aan onrechtvaardige rechters in plaats van mensen die bij God horen? 2 Weten jullie niet dat zij die bij God horen over de wereld zullen oordelen? En als jullie over de wereld zullen oordelen, zijn jullie dan echt niet in staat om kleine geschillen op te lossen? 3 Weten jullie niet dat wij over engelen zullen oordelen? Dan moet het toch ook lukken met alledaagse zaken? 4 Als jullie dus geschillen over alledaagse zaken hebben, waarom leg je ze dan voor aan rechters die binnen de kerkgemeenschap geen aanzien genieten? 5 Jullie moesten je schamen! Is er dan onder jullie echt geen wijze persoon die in staat is om uitspraak te doen in een conflict tussen geloofsgenoten? 6 Maar nee, de ene christen spant een rechtszaak aan tegen de andere, en dat in het bijzijn van ongelovigen! 7 Alleen al het feit dat jullie rechtszaken tegen elkaar aanspannen is voor jullie een nederlaag. Zou het niet beter zijn om onrecht te lijden? Zou het niet beter zijn om benadeeld te worden? 8 Maar in plaats daarvan doen jullie mensen – die nog wel christen zijn – onrecht aan en benadelen jullie hen. 9 Weten jullie niet dat onrechtvaardige mensen geen deel krijgen aan Gods koninkrijk? Vergis je niet: mensen die zich bezighouden met seksueel wangedrag, afgoderij, overspel of homoseksuele handelingen, 10 of met diefstal, begerigheid naar wat anderen toebehoort, dronkenschap, laster of oplichting, krijgen geen deel aan Gods koninkrijk. 11 En zo was het met sommigen van jullie, maar jullie zijn schoongewassen, jullie zijn heilig gemaakt: jullie zijn met God in het reine gebracht door de macht van de Heer Jezus Christus en door de Geest van onze God.

12 ‘Voor mij is alles toegestaan’, zeg je. En dat is zo, maar niet alles is nuttig. Voor mij is alles toegestaan, maar ik laat mij door niets beheersen. 13 ‘Voedsel is er voor de maag’, zeg je, en de maag is er voor het voedsel, maar God zal aan beide een einde maken. Het lichaam is niet bedoeld voor seksueel wangedrag, maar voor de Heer. En de Heer geeft om het lichaam. 14 God heeft de Heer doen verrijzen en Hij zal ook ons doen verrijzen, door zijn kracht. 15 Weten jullie niet dat je lichaam deel uitmaakt van het lichaam van Christus? Zou ik dan delen van het lichaam van Christus gebruiken voor seks met een prostituee? Absoluut niet! 16 Weten jullie niet dat iemand die seks met een prostituee heeft, een lichamelijke eenheid met haar vormt? De Schrift zegt immers: "De twee zullen één lichaam vormen." 17 Maar wie zich aan de Heer geeft, vormt met Hem een geestelijke eenheid. 18 Ga seksueel wangedrag dus uit de weg. Iedere andere zonde wordt gepleegd buiten het lichaam om, maar wie seksueel wangedrag pleegt, zondigt tegen zijn eigen lichaam. 19 Weten jullie niet dat je lichaam een tempel is – namelijk van de Heilige Geest die in je woont – en dat je die van God hebt gekregen? Je bent niet van jezelf, 20 je bent duur gekocht. Gebruik je lichaam dus om God te eren.
