1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,
2 and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;
4 and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.
5 For this ye are {well} informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;
8 for ye were once darkness, but now light in {the} Lord; walk as children of light,
9 (for the fruit of the light {is} in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)
10 proving what is agreeable to the Lord;
11 and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove {them},
12 for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.
13 But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he says, Wake up, {thou} that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.
15 See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what {is} the will of the Lord.
18 And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;
20 giving thanks at all times for all things to him {who is} God and {the} Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
21 submitting yourselves to one another in {the} fear of Christ.
22 Wives, {submit yourselves} to your own husbands, as to the Lord,
23 for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ {is} head of the assembly. *He* {is} Saviour of the body.
24 But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,
26 in order that he might sanctify it, purifying {it} by the washing of water by {the} word,
27 that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.
28 So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.
29 For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:
30 for we are members of his body; {we are of his flesh, and of his bones.}
31 Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.
32 This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.
33 But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife {I speak} that she may fear the husband.
1 Soyez donc les imitateurs de Dieu, comme [ses] chers enfants;
2 Et marchez dans la charité, ainsi que Christ aussi nous a aimés, et s'est donné lui-même pour nous en oblation et sacrifice à Dieu, en odeur de bonne senteur.
3 Que ni la fornication, ni aucune souillure, ni l'avarice, ne soient pas même nommées parmi vous, ainsi qu’il est convenable à des Saints;
4 Ni aucune chose déshonnête, ni parole folle, ni plaisanterie; car ce sont là des choses qui ne sont pas bienséantes; mais plutôt des actions de grâces.
5 Car vous savez ceci, que nul fornicateur, ni impur, ni avare, qui est un idolâtre, n'a point d'héritage dans le Royaume de Christ, et de Dieu.
6 Que personne ne vous séduise par de vains discours, car à cause de ces choses la colère de Dieu vient sur les rebelles.
7 Ne soyez donc point leurs associés.
8 Car vous étiez autrefois ténèbres, mais maintenant vous êtes lumière au Seigneur; conduisez-vous [donc] comme des enfants de lumière.
9 Car le fruit de l'Esprit consiste en toute débonnaireté, justice et vérité.
10 Eprouvant ce qui est agréable au Seigneur.
11 Et ne communiquez point aux œuvres infructueuses des ténèbres, mais au contraire reprenez-les.
12 Car il est même déshonnête de dire les choses qu'ils font en secret.
13 Mais toutes choses étant mises en évidence par la lumière, sont rendues manifestes ; car la lumière est celle qui manifeste tout.
14 C'est pourquoi il [est] dit : Réveille-toi, toi qui dors, et te relève d'entre les morts, et Christ t'éclairera.
15 Prenez donc garde comment vous vous conduirez soigneusement, non point comme étant dépourvus de sagesse, mais comme étant sages :
16 Rachetant le temps : car les jours sont mauvais.
17 C'est pourquoi ne soyez point sans prudence, mais comprenez bien quelle est la volonté du Seigneur.
18 Et ne vous enivrez point du vin auquel il y a de la dissolution; mais soyez remplis de l'Esprit.
19 Vous entretenant par des Psaumes, des cantiques et des chansons spirituelles; chantant et psalmodiant de votre cœur au Seigneur.
20 Rendant toujours grâces pour toutes choses au Nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ [à notre] Dieu, et Père.
21 Vous soumettant les uns aux autres, en la crainte de Dieu.
22 Femmes soyez soumises à vos maris, comme au Seigneur.
23 Car le mari est le chef de la femme, comme Christ est le chef de l'Eglise, et il est aussi le Sauveur de [son] Corps.
24 Comme donc l'Eglise est soumise à Christ, que les femmes le soient de même à leurs maris, en toutes choses.
25 [Et] vous maris, aimez vos femmes, comme Christ a aimé l'Eglise, et s'est donné lui-même pour elle.
26 Afin qu'il la sanctifiât, après l’avoir nettoyée dans le baptême d'eau et par sa parole :
27 Afin qu'il se la rendît une Eglise glorieuse, n'ayant ni tache, ni ride, ni autre chose semblable, mais afin qu'elle fût sainte et irrépréhensible.
28 Les maris donc doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leurs propres corps; celui qui aime sa femme s'aime soi-même.
29 Car personne n'a jamais eu en haine sa propre chair, mais il la nourrit et l'entretient, comme le Seigneur entretient l'Eglise.
30 Car nous sommes membres de son corps, étant de sa chair, et de ses os.
31 C'est pourquoi l'homme laissera son père et sa mère, et il s'unira à sa femme, et les deux seront une même chair.
32 Ce mystère est grand, or je parle de Christ et de l'Eglise.
33 Que chacun de vous aime donc sa femme comme soi-même; et que la femme révère son mari.
