1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2 Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah’s house should be built. 3 And the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 Is it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste? 5 And now thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. 6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes. 7 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. 8 Go up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah. 9 Ye looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house. 10 Therefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit. 11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

12 And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God*GodHebrew: Elohim and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God*GodHebrew: Elohim had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah. 13 Then spoke Haggai, Jehovah’s messenger, in Jehovah’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah. 14 And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God*GodHebrew: Elohim15 in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

Vers. 7. cu băgare de seamă la căile voastre! 6 Semănați*Deut. 28:38.Osea 4:10.Mica 6:14,15. Cap. 2:16. mult și strângeți puțin; mâncați și tot nu vă săturați; beți și tot nu vă potoliți setea; vă îmbrăcați și tot nu vă este cald și cine câștigă*Zah. 8:10. o simbrie o pune într-o pungă spartă!" 7 Așa vorbește Domnul oștirilor: „Uitați-vă cu băgare de seamă la căile voastre! 8 Suiți-vă pe munte, aduceți lemne și zidiți Casa! Eu Mă voi bucura de lucrul acesta și voi fi proslăvit", zice Domnul. 9 „Vă așteptați*Cap. 2:16. la mult, și iată că ați avut puțin; l-ați adus acasă, dar Eu l-am suflat*Cap. 2:17.. Pentru ce?", zice Domnul oștirilor. „Din pricina Casei Mele, care stă dărâmată, pe când fiecare din voi aleargă pentru casa lui. 10 De aceea cerurile*Lev. 26:19.Deut. 28:23.1 Împ. 8:35. nu v-au dat roua și pământul nu și-a dat roadele. 11 Am chemat*1 Împ. 17:1.2 Împ. 8:1. seceta peste țară, peste munți, peste grâu, peste must, peste untdelemn, peste tot ce poate aduce pământul, peste oameni și peste vite și peste tot*Cap. 2:17. lucrul mâinilor voastre." 12 Zorobabel*Ezra 5:2., fiul lui Șealtiel, Iosua, fiul lui Ioțadac, marele preot, și toată rămășița poporului au ascultat glasul Domnului Dumnezeului lor și cuvintele prorocului Hagai, fiindcă Domnul Dumnezeul lor îl trimisese. Și poporul s-a temut de Domnul. 13 Hagai, trimisul Domnului, a zis poporului, după porunca Domnului: „‘Eu sunt*Mat. 28:20.Rom. 8:31. cu voi’, zice Domnul." 14 Domnul*2 Cron. 36:22.Ezra 1:1. a trezit duhul lui Zorobabel, fiul lui Șealtiel, dregătorul*Cap. 2:21. lui Iuda, și duhul lui Iosua, fiul lui Ioțadac, marele preot, și duhul întregii rămășițe a poporului. Așa că ei au venit*Ezra 5:2,8. și s-au pus pe lucru în Casa Domnului oștirilor, Dumnezeul lor, 15 în ziua a douăzeci și patra a lunii a șasea, în anul al doilea al împăratului Darius.
