1 Now when these things were completed, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites; 2 for they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, and have mingled the holy seed with the peoples of the lands; and the hand of the princes and rulers has been chief in this unfaithfulness. 3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my mantle and my garment, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down overwhelmed. 4 Then were assembled to me every one that trembled at the words of the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, because of the unfaithfulness of those that had been carried away; and I sat overwhelmed until the evening oblation.

5 And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation; and with my mantle and my garment rent, I fell on my knees, and spread out my hands to Jehovah my God*GodHebrew: Elohim6 and said: O my God*GodHebrew: Elohim I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God*GodHebrew: Elohim for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up to the heavens. 7 Since the days of our fathers, we have been in great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities we, our kings, our priests, have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. 8 And now for a little space there hath been favour from Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God*GodHebrew: Elohim may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. 9 For we are bondmen; yet our God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us before the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God*GodHebrew: Elohim and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. 10 And now, what shall we say, our God*GodHebrew: Elohim after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, 11 which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land through the filthiness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations with which they have filled it from one end to another through their uncleanness. 12 Now therefore give not your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever. 13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God*GodHebrew: Elohim hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this, 14 should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples of these abominations? wouldest thou not be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor any to escape? 15 Jehovah, God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are a remnant that is escaped, as it is this day. Behold, we are before thee in our trespasses; for there is no standing before thee because of this.

1 După ce s-a sfârșit lucrul acesta, căpeteniile s-au apropiat de mine și au zis: „Poporul lui Israel, preoții și leviții nu s-au despărțit*Cap. 6:21.Neem. 9:2. de popoarele acestor țări și au făcut*Deut. 12:30,31. urâciunile lor, ale canaaniților, hetiților, fereziților, iebusiților, amoniților, moabiților, egiptenilor și amoriților. 2 Căci și-au*Exod 34:16.Deut. 7:3.Neem. 13:23. luat neveste din fetele lor pentru ei și pentru fiii lor și au amestecat*Exod 19:6;22:31.Deut. 7:6;14:2. neamul*2 Cor. 6:14. sfânt cu popoarele țărilor acestora. Și căpeteniile și dregătorii au fost cei dintâi care au săvârșit păcatul acesta." 3 Când am auzit lucrul acesta, mi-am sfâșiat*Iov 1:20. hainele și mantaua, mi-am smuls părul din cap și perii din barbă și am stat jos mâhnit*Ps. 143:4.. 4 Atunci s-au strâns la mine toți cei ce se temeau*Cap. 10:3.Is. 66:2. de cuvintele Dumnezeului lui Israel, din pricina păcatului fiilor robiei. Și eu am stat jos mâhnit până la jertfa de seară*Exod 29:39.. 5 Apoi, în clipa jertfei de seară, m-am sculat din smerirea mea, cu hainele și mantaua sfâșiate, am căzut în genunchi, am întins*Exod 9:29,33. mâinile spre Domnul Dumnezeul meu și am zis: 6 „Dumnezeule, sunt uluit și mi-e*Dan. 9:7,8. rușine, Dumnezeule, să-mi ridic fața spre Tine. Căci fărădelegile*Ps. 38:4. noastre s-au înmulțit deasupra capetelor noastre și greșelile noastre au ajuns*2 Cron. 28:9.Apoc. 18:5. până la ceruri. 7 Din zilele părinților noștri, am fost foarte*Ps. 106:6.Dan. 9:5,6,8. vinovați până în ziua de azi și din pricina fărădelegilor noastre am*Deut. 28:36,64.Neem. 9:30. fost dați noi, împărații noștri și preoții noștri în mâinile împăraților străini, pradă sabiei, robiei, jafului și rușinii*Dan. 9:7,8. care ne acoperă astăzi fața. 8 Și totuși Domnul Dumnezeul nostru S-a îndurat de noi, lăsându-ne câțiva oameni scăpați și dându-ne un adăpost în locul Lui cel sfânt, ca să ne lumineze*Ps. 13:3;34:5. ochii și să ne dea puțină răsuflare în mijlocul robiei noastre. 9 Căci*Neem. 9:36. suntem robi, dar Dumnezeu*Ps. 136:23. nu ne-a părăsit în robia noastră. A îndreptat spre noi bunăvoința*Cap. 7:28. împăraților perșilor și ei ne-au dat o nouă putere de viață, ca să putem zidi Casa Dumnezeului nostru și să-i dregem dărâmăturile, făcându-ne astfel rost de un loc de adăpost*Is. 5:2. în Iuda și la Ierusalim. 10 Acum, ce să mai zicem noi după aceste lucruri, Dumnezeule? Căci am părăsit poruncile Tale, 11 pe care ni le porunciseși prin robii Tăi, prorocii, zicând: ‘Țara în care intrați s-o stăpâniți este o țară întinată*Cap. 6:21. de necurățiile popoarelor din aceste ținuturi, de urâciunile cu care au umplut-o de la un capăt la altul, cu necurățiile lor. 12 Să nu*Exod 23:32;34:16.Deut. 7:3. dați deci pe fetele voastre după fiii lor, nici să nu luați pe fetele lor de neveste pentru fiii voștri și să nu vă pese*Deut. 23:6. niciodată nici de propășirea lor, nici de bunăstarea lor. În chipul acesta veți ajunge tari, veți mânca cele mai bune roade ale țării și o veți lăsa*Prov. 13:22;20:7. pe veci moștenire fiilor voștri.’ 13 După tot ce ni s-a întâmplat din pricina faptelor rele și a marilor greșeli pe care le-am făcut, măcar că Tu, Dumnezeule, nu ne-ai pedepsit*Ps. 103:10. după fărădelegile noastre, se cuvine ca, acum, când ne-ai păstrat pe acești oameni scăpați, 14 să începem iarăși să călcăm*Ioan 5:14.2 Pet. 2:20,21. poruncile Tale și să ne încuscrim*Vers. 2.Neem. 13:23,27. cu aceste popoare urâcioase? N-ar*Deut. 9:8. izbucni atunci iarăși mânia Ta împotriva noastră, până acolo încât ne-ar nimici, fără să lase nici rămășiță, nici robi izbăviți? 15 Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Israel, Tu ești drept*Neem. 9:33.Dan. 9:14., căci astăzi noi suntem o rămășiță de robi izbăviți. Iată-ne înaintea*Rom. 3:19. Ta ca niște*1 Cor. 15:17. vinovați și din această pricină nu putem sta*Ps. 130:3. înaintea Ta."
