1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions. 2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. 3 And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king which he told her not. 4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built, 5 and the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. 6 And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom. 7 Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard. 8 Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom. 9 Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice. 10 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon. 11 And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees and precious stones. 12 And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king’s house, harps also and psalteries for the singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen, unto this day. 13 And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants. 14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold, 15 beside that which the chapmen brought, and the traffic of the merchants, and of all the kings of the mingled people, and of the governors of the country. 16 And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one target. 17 And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three pounds of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon; 18 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold. 19 There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind: and there were stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays. 20 And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps: there was not the like made in any kingdom. 21 And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon. 22 For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once every three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks. 23 So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. 24 And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. 25 And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year. 26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 27 And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance. 28 And the horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; and the king’s merchants received them in droves, each drove at a price. 29 And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.

1 Quando a rainha de Sabá ouviu falar da fama de Salomão, com respeito ao nome do Senhor, veio prová-lo com perguntas difíceis. 2 Chegou a Jerusalém com uma enorme comitiva, com camelos carregados de especiarias, grande quantidade de ouro e pedras preciosas. Ela se apresentou diante de Salomão e lhe expôs tudo o que trazia em sua mente. 3 Salomão respondeu todas as perguntas que ela fez, e não houve nada profundo demais que o rei não pudesse explicar. 4 Quando a rainha de Sabá viu toda a sabedoria de Salomão, o palácio que ele havia construído, 5 a comida que era servida na mesa dele, o lugar dos seus oficiais, o serviço dos seus criados e os trajes deles, seus copeiros, e o holocausto que oferecia na Casa do Senhor, ficou como fora de si 6 e disse ao rei:

— É verdade o que ouvi na minha terra a respeito de você e a respeito da sua sabedoria. 7 Eu, porém, não acreditava naquelas palavras, até que vim e vi com os meus próprios olhos. Eis que não me contaram nem a metade: você supera em sabedoria e prosperidade a fama que ouvi. 8 Felizes os homens à sua volta, felizes estes seus servos que estão sempre diante de você e que ouvem a sua sabedoria! 9 Bendito seja o Senhor, seu Deus, que se agradou de você e o colocou no trono de Israel. O Senhor ama Israel para sempre e, por isso, ele o constituiu rei, para que você execute o juízo e a justiça.

10 Ela entregou ao rei quatro toneladas de ouro, grande quantidade de especiarias e pedras preciosas. Nunca mais veio especiaria em tanta abundância, como a que a rainha de Sabá ofereceu ao rei Salomão.

11 Também os navios de Hirão, que transportavam ouro de Ofir, traziam de lá grande quantidade de madeira de sândalo e pedras preciosas. 12 Desta madeira de sândalo o rei mandou fazer corrimões para a Casa do Senhor e para o palácio real, bem como harpas e liras para os cantores. Tal madeira nunca se havia trazido para ali, nem se viu mais semelhante madeira até o dia de hoje.

13 O rei Salomão deu à rainha de Sabá tudo o que ela quis e pediu, além de tudo o que lhe deu por sua generosidade real. Então ela voltou e foi para a sua terra, ela e os seus servos.

14 O peso do ouro que se trazia a Salomão a cada ano era de cerca de vinte e três toneladas, 15 além do que entrava dos vendedores e dos negociantes, de todos os reis da Arábia e dos governadores da terra. 16 O rei Salomão fez duzentos grandes escudos de ouro batido, empregando sete quilos e duzentos gramas de ouro em cada escudo. 17 Fez também trezentos escudos menores de ouro batido, empregando um quilo e oitocentos gramas de ouro em cada escudo. E o rei os pôs na Casa do Bosque do Líbano. 18 O rei fez também um grande trono de marfim e o cobriu de ouro puríssimo. 19 O trono tinha seis degraus, e o encosto do trono, ao alto, era redondo. De ambos os lados do assento havia um braço, e a figura de um leão junto a cada um dos braços. 20 Doze leões estavam ali sobre os seis degraus, um em cada extremo destes. Nunca se havia feito obra semelhante em nenhum outro reino. 21 Todas as taças que o rei Salomão usava para beber eram de ouro, e também de ouro puro eram todos os objetos da Casa do Bosque do Líbano. Não havia nada de prata, porque nos dias de Salomão não se dava nenhum valor a ela. 22 Porque o rei tinha no mar uma frota de Társis, junto com os navios de Hirão. De três em três anos, a frota voltava de Társis, trazendo ouro, prata, marfim, bugios e pavões.

23 Assim, o rei Salomão excedeu a todos os reis do mundo, tanto em riqueza como em sabedoria. 24 Todo o mundo queria ver Salomão para ouvir a sabedoria que Deus tinha posto no coração dele. 25 Cada um trazia o seu presente: objetos de prata e de ouro, roupas, armaduras, especiarias, cavalos e mulas. E foi assim ano após ano. 26 Salomão ajuntou carros de guerra e cavaleiros. Tinha mil e quatrocentos carros de guerra e doze mil cavaleiros, que espalhou pelas cidades onde mantinha os carros, deixando uma parte junto ao rei, em Jerusalém. 27 O rei fez com que, em Jerusalém, a prata fosse tão comum como as pedras e os cedros fossem tão numerosos como os sicômoros que estão na Sefelá. 28 Os cavalos de Salomão vinham do Egito e da Cilícia, e comerciantes do rei os importavam da Cilícia por certo preço. 29 Importava-se do Egito um carro de guerra por seiscentas moedas de prata e um cavalo por cento e cinquenta. Nas mesmas condições, as caravanas os traziam e os exportavam para todos os reis dos heteus e para os reis da Síria.
