1 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel. 2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 3 And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria? 4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses. 5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD today. 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king. 7 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here besides a prophet of the LORD, that we might inquire of him? 8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so. 9 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah. 10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. 11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed. 12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. 13 And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak thou good. 14 And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak. 15 And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go up, and prosper; and the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. 16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD? 17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace. 18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil? 19 And he said, Therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. 20 And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner; and another said on that manner. 21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. 22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so. 23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets; and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee. 24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee? 25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself. 26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; 27 and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. 28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you. 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead. 30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. 31 Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty and two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel. 32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel; and they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out. 33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 34 And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded. 35 And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot. 36 And there went a cry throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his country. 37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. 38 And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; (now the harlots washed themselves there;) according unto the word of the LORD which he spake. 39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. 41 And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 43 And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: howbeit the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. 44 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel. 45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land. 47 And there was no king in Edom: a deputy was king. 48 Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber. 49 Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not. 50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. 51 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel. 52 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherein he made Israel to sin. 53 And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

1 Três anos se passaram sem haver guerra entre Síria e Israel. 2 Porém, no terceiro ano, Josafá, rei de Judá, foi visitar o rei de Israel. 3 Este perguntou aos seus servos:

— Vocês não sabem que Ramote-Gileade é nossa, e nós ficamos quietos e não a tiramos das mãos do rei da Síria?

4 Então perguntou a Josafá:

— Você vai comigo à batalha contra Ramote-Gileade?

Josafá respondeu ao rei de Israel:

— Sou como você é, o meu povo é como o seu povo, e os meus cavalos são como os seus cavalos.

5 Josafá disse mais ao rei de Israel:

— Consulte primeiro a palavra do Senhor.

6 Então o rei de Israel reuniu os profetas, cerca de quatrocentos homens, e lhes perguntou:

— Devo ir e lutar contra Ramote-Gileade ou devo me conter?

Eles responderam:

— Vá, porque o Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei.

7 Mas Josafá perguntou:

— Não há aqui ainda algum profeta do Senhor, para o consultarmos?

8 O rei de Israel respondeu a Josafá:

— Há um ainda, por meio de quem podemos consultar o Senhor. Mas eu o odeio, porque nunca profetiza de mim o que é bom, mas somente o que é mau. É Micaías, filho de Inlá.

Josafá disse:

— O rei não deveria falar assim.

9 Então o rei de Israel chamou um oficial e disse:

— Traga-me depressa Micaías, filho de Inlá.

10 O rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, estavam assentados, cada um no seu trono, vestidos de trajes reais, numa eira à entrada do portão da cidade de Samaria; e todos os profetas profetizavam diante deles. 11 Zedequias, filho de Quenaana, fez para si uns chifres de ferro e disse:

— Assim diz o Senhor: "Com estes você dará chifradas nos sírios até que estejam destruídos."

12 Todos os profetas profetizaram assim, dizendo:

— Suba a Ramote-Gileade! Você triunfará! O Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei.

13 O mensageiro que tinha ido chamar Micaías falou-lhe, dizendo:

— Eis que as palavras dos profetas a uma voz predizem coisas boas para o rei. Portanto, que a sua palavra seja como a palavra de um deles; fale o que é bom.

14 Micaías respondeu:

— Tão certo como vive o Senhor, o que o Senhor me disser, isso falarei.

15 Quando ele chegou à presença do rei, este lhe perguntou:

— Micaías, devemos ir a Ramote-Gileade para a batalha ou devemos nos conter?

Ele respondeu:

— Vá! Você triunfará! O Senhor a entregará nas mãos do rei.

16 O rei lhe disse:

— Quantas vezes devo fazer você jurar que não me fale a não ser a verdade em nome do Senhor?

17 Então Micaías disse:

— Vi todo o Israel disperso pelos montes, como ovelhas que não têm pastor. E o Senhor Deus disse: "Estes não têm dono; que cada um volte em paz para a sua casa."

18 Então o rei de Israel disse a Josafá:

— Eu não disse a você que a meu respeito ele não profetiza o que é bom, mas somente o que é mau?

19 Micaías prosseguiu:

— Portanto, ouça a palavra do Senhor: Vi o Senhor assentado no seu trono, e todo o exército do céu estava junto dele, à sua direita e à sua esquerda. 20 Então o Senhor perguntou: "Quem enganará Acabe, para que vá e seja morto em Ramote-Gileade?" E um dizia uma coisa, e outro dizia outra coisa. 21 Então um espírito saiu, se apresentou diante do Senhor e disse: "Eu o enganarei." O Senhor perguntou: "Como?" 22 Ele respondeu: "Sairei e serei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os profetas do rei." Então o Senhor disse: "Você conseguirá enganá-lo. Vá e faça assim." 23 E agora eis que o Senhor pôs esse espírito mentiroso na boca de todos estes seus profetas e o Senhor declarou que um mal vai lhe acontecer.

24 Então Zedequias, filho de Quenaana, chegou, deu uma bofetada em Micaías e perguntou:

— Por onde é que passou o Espírito do Senhor ao sair de mim para falar com você?

25 Micaías respondeu:

— Eis que você o verá no dia em que estiver correndo de quarto em quarto, tentando se esconder!

26 Então o rei de Israel disse:

— Prenda Micaías e leve-o de volta a Amom, governador da cidade, e a Joás, filho do rei. 27 E diga: "Assim diz o rei: Metam este homem na cadeia e o ponham a pão e água, até que eu volte em paz."

28 Micaías disse:

— Se o rei de fato voltar em paz, é porque o Senhor não falou por meio de mim.

E acrescentou:

— Que todos os povos ouçam isto!

29 O rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, foram atacar Ramote-Gileade. 30 O rei de Israel disse a Josafá:

— Eu vou me disfarçar e entrar no combate, mas você use os seus trajes reais.

E assim o rei de Israel se disfarçou e entrou no combate.

31 Ora, o rei da Síria havia ordenado aos trinta e dois capitães dos seus carros de guerra que não lutassem nem contra pequeno nem contra grande, mas somente contra o rei de Israel. 32 Quando os capitães dos carros viram Josafá, disseram:

— Aquele certamente é o rei de Israel.

E se dirigiram até ele para o atacar. Porém Josafá gritou. 33 Quando os capitães dos carros de guerra viram que não era o rei de Israel, deixaram de persegui-lo. 34 Então um homem entesou o arco e, atirando ao acaso, atingiu o rei de Israel por entre as juntas da sua armadura. Então o rei Acabe disse ao condutor do seu carro:

— Dê a volta e leve-me para fora do combate, porque estou gravemente ferido.

35 A batalha se intensificou naquele dia. Quanto ao rei, seguraram-no em pé no seu carro de guerra de frente para os sírios, mas à tarde ele morreu. O sangue corria da ferida para o fundo do carro. 36 Ao pôr do sol, fez-se ouvir um grito pelo acampamento, que dizia:

— Cada um para a sua cidade, e cada um para a sua terra!

37 Morto o rei, levaram-no a Samaria, onde o sepultaram. 38 Quando lavaram o carro de guerra junto à cisterna de Samaria, os cães lamberam o sangue do rei, segundo a palavra que o Senhor tinha dito; as prostitutas banharam-se naquelas águas.

39 Quanto aos demais atos de Acabe, a tudo o que fez, ao palácio de marfim que construiu e a todas as cidades que edificou, não está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis de Israel? 40 Assim, Acabe morreu, e Acazias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

41 Josafá, filho de Asa, começou a reinar sobre Judá no quarto ano do reinado de Acabe, rei de Israel. 42 Josafá tinha trinta e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou vinte e cinco anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Azuba e era filha de Sili. 43 Josafá andou em todos os caminhos de Asa, seu pai; não se desviou deles e fez o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor. 44 Os lugares altos, porém, não foram destruídos; neles, o povo ainda oferecia sacrifícios e queimava incenso. 45 Josafá viveu em paz com o rei de Israel.

46 Quanto aos demais atos de Josafá, ao poder que mostrou e como guerreou, não está tudo escrito no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá?

47 Também exterminou da terra os restantes dos prostitutos cultuais que ficaram nos dias de Asa, seu pai.

48 Nessa época não havia rei em Edom, porém somente um governador. 49 Josafá fez grandes navios, para irem a Ofir em busca de ouro; porém não foram, porque os navios se quebraram em Eziom-Geber. 50 Então Acazias, filho de Acabe, disse a Josafá:

— Deixe que os meus servos naveguem com os seus.

Porém Josafá não quis.

51 Josafá morreu e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, seu pai; e Jeorão, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

52 Acazias, filho de Acabe, começou a reinar sobre Israel em Samaria, no décimo sétimo ano do reinado de Josafá, rei de Judá; e reinou dois anos sobre Israel. 53 Fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pois andou nos caminhos de seu pai, bem como nos caminhos de sua mãe e nos caminhos de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que levou Israel a pecar. 54 Ele serviu a Baal, e o adorou, como o seu pai havia feito antes dele, provocando o Senhor, Deus de Israel, à ira.
