1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. 2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house for the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet. 4 But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrent. 5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for my name. 6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Zidonians. 7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people. 8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard the message which thou hast sent unto me: I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. 9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will make them into rafts to go by sea unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household. 10 So Hirah gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire. 11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year. 12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together. 13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy. 15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains; 16 besides Solomon’s chief officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work. 17 And the king commanded, and they hewed out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wrought stone. 18 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

1 Também Hirão, rei de Tiro, enviou os seus servos a Salomão, porque ouviu que Salomão havia sido ungido rei em lugar de seu pai. Acontece que Hirão sempre tinha sido amigo de Davi. 2 Então Salomão enviou mensageiros a Hirão, dizendo:

3 — Você sabe que Davi, meu pai, não pôde edificar um templo ao nome do Senhor, seu Deus, por causa das guerras em que se viu envolvido, até que o Senhor pôs os seus inimigos debaixo dos pés dele. 4 Porém a mim o Senhor, meu Deus, tem dado descanso de todos os lados; não há nem inimigo, nem adversidade alguma. 5 Por isso tenho a intenção de edificar um templo ao nome do Senhor, meu Deus, como o Senhor falou a Davi, meu pai, dizendo: "O seu filho, que porei em seu lugar no seu trono, esse edificará uma casa ao meu nome." 6 Agora ordene que cortem cedros do Líbano para mim. Os meus servos estarão com os seus servos, e eu lhe pagarei o salário destes segundo o que você determinar. Porque você bem sabe que entre o meu povo não há quem saiba cortar a madeira como os sidônios.

7 Quando Hirão ouviu as palavras de Salomão, ficou muito contente e disse:

— Bendito seja hoje o Senhor, que deu a Davi um filho sábio para reinar sobre este grande povo.

8 Hirão enviou mensageiros a Salomão, dizendo:

— Ouvi a mensagem que você me enviou. Farei tudo o que você deseja no que se refere às madeiras de cedro e de cipreste. 9 Os meus servos as levarão desde o Líbano até o mar, e eu farei com que sejam conduzidas em jangadas pelo mar até o lugar que você disser. Ali elas serão desamarradas e você as receberá. E você também fará a minha vontade, dando provisões à minha casa.

10 Assim, Hirão deu a Salomão madeira de cedro e madeira de cipreste, segundo este queria. 11 Salomão deu a Hirão duas mil toneladas de trigo, para sustento da sua casa, e quatrocentos mil litros de azeite de oliva puro; e o fazia de ano em ano. 12 O Senhor deu sabedoria a Salomão, como lhe havia prometido. Havia paz entre Hirão e Salomão, e eles fizeram uma aliança entre si.

13 O rei Salomão formou uma leva de trabalhadores forçados dentre todo o Israel, num total de trinta mil homens. 14 Ele os enviava ao Líbano alternadamente, dez mil por mês; um mês estavam no Líbano, e dois meses, cada um em sua casa. E Adonirão dirigia a leva. 15 Salomão tinha também setenta mil que levavam as cargas e oitenta mil que talhavam pedra nas montanhas, 16 além dos chefes-oficiais de Salomão, em número de três mil e trezentos, que dirigiam a obra e davam ordens ao povo que a executava. 17 O rei mandou que trouxessem pedras grandes, pedras preciosas e pedras lavradas para os alicerces do templo. 18 Os edificadores de Salomão, e os de Hirão, e os giblitas cortaram as pedras e prepararam a madeira e as pedras para edificar o templo.
