1 Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself was about to come. 2 And he said unto them, The harvest is plenteous, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no purse, no wallet, no shoes: and salute no man on the way. 5 And into whatsoever house ye shall enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6 And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall turn to you again. 7 And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 10 But into whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets thereof and say, 11 Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we do wipe off against you: howbeit know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh. 12 I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 Howbeit it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you. 15 And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt be brought down unto Hades. 16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me. 17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us in thy name. 18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. 20 Howbeit in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. 21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 22 All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, save the Father; and who the Father is, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him. 23 And turning to the disciples, he said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: 24 for I say unto you, that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. 25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26 And he said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? 30 Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, which both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 And in like manner a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion, 34 and came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and he set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 And on the morrow he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, I, when I come back again, will repay thee. 36 Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved neighbour unto him that fell among the robbers? 37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. 38 Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at the Lord’s feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 But the Lord answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things: 42 but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

1 Depois disso, o Senhor escolheu outros setenta e os enviou de dois em dois, para que fossem adiante dele a cada cidade e lugar onde ele haveria de passar. 2 E lhes disse:

— A seara é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. Por isso, peçam ao Senhor da seara que mande trabalhadores para a sua seara. 3 Vão! Eis que eu os envio como cordeiros para o meio de lobos. 4 Não levem bolsa, nem sacola, nem sandálias; e não saúdem ninguém pelo caminho. 5 Ao entrarem numa casa, digam primeiro: "Paz seja nesta casa!" 6 Se houver ali uma pessoa que ama a paz, sobre ela repousará a paz de vocês; se não houver, a paz voltará sobre vocês. 7 Fiquem na mesma casa, comendo e bebendo do que eles tiverem; porque o trabalhador é digno do seu salário. Não fiquem mudando de casa em casa. 8 Quando entrarem numa cidade e ali forem bem-recebidos, comam do que lhes for oferecido. 9 Curem os doentes que nela houver e digam ao povo dali: "O Reino de Deus se aproximou de vocês." 10 Porém, quando entrarem numa cidade e não forem bem-recebidos, saiam pelas ruas, dizendo: 11 "Até o pó desta cidade, que grudou nos nossos pés, sacudimos contra vocês! No entanto, saibam que está próximo o Reino de Deus." 12 Eu digo a vocês que, naquele dia, haverá menos rigor para Sodoma do que para aquela cidade.

13 — Ai de você, Corazim! Ai de você, Betsaida! Porque, se em Tiro e em Sidom se tivessem operado os milagres que foram feitos em vocês, há muito que elas teriam se arrependido, assentadas em pano de saco e cinza. 14 Mas, no Juízo, haverá menos rigor para Tiro e Sidom do que para vocês.

15 — E você, Cafarnaum, pensa que será elevada até o céu? Será jogada no inferno!

16 — Quem ouve vocês ouve a mim; e quem rejeita vocês é a mim que rejeita; quem, porém, me rejeita está rejeitando aquele que me enviou.

17 Então os setenta voltaram, cheios de alegria, dizendo:

— Senhor, em seu nome os próprios demônios se submetem a nós!

18 Jesus lhes disse:

— Eu via Satanás caindo do céu como um relâmpago. 19 Eis que eu dei a vocês autoridade para pisarem cobras e escorpiões e sobre todo o poder do inimigo, e nada, absolutamente, lhes causará dano. 20 No entanto, alegrem-se, não porque os espíritos se submetem a vocês, e sim porque o nome de cada um de vocês está registrado no céu.

21 Naquela hora, Jesus exultou no Espírito Santo e exclamou:

— Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste estas coisas dos sábios e instruídos e as revelaste aos pequeninos. Sim, ó Pai, porque assim foi do teu agrado.

22 — Tudo me foi entregue por meu Pai. Ninguém sabe quem é o Filho, a não ser o Pai; e também ninguém sabe quem é o Pai, a não ser o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar.

23 E, voltando-se para os seus discípulos, Jesus lhes disse em particular:

— Bem-aventurados os olhos que veem as coisas que vocês estão vendo. 24 Pois eu lhes digo que muitos profetas e reis quiseram ver o que vocês estão vendo, mas não viram; e quiseram ouvir o que vocês estão ouvindo, mas não ouviram.

25 E eis que certo homem, intérprete da Lei, se levantou com o objetivo de pôr Jesus à prova e lhe perguntou:

— Mestre, que farei para herdar a vida eterna?

26 Então Jesus lhe perguntou:

— O que está escrito na Lei? Como você a entende?

27 A isto ele respondeu:

— "Ame o Senhor, seu Deus, de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma, com todas as suas forças e todo o seu entendimento." E: "Ame o seu próximo como você ama a si mesmo."

28 Então Jesus lhe disse:

— Você respondeu corretamente. Faça isto e você viverá.

29 Mas ele, querendo justificar-se, perguntou a Jesus:

— Quem é o meu próximo?

30 Jesus prosseguiu, dizendo:

— Um homem descia de Jerusalém para Jericó e caiu nas mãos de alguns ladrões. Estes, depois de lhe tirar a roupa e lhe causar muitos ferimentos, retiraram-se, deixando-o semimorto. 31 Por casualidade, um sacerdote estava descendo por aquele mesmo caminho e, vendo aquele homem, passou de largo. 32 De igual modo, um levita descia por aquele lugar e, vendo-o, passou de largo. 33 Certo samaritano, que seguia o seu caminho, passou perto do homem e, vendo-o, compadeceu-se dele. 34 E, aproximando-se, fez curativos nos ferimentos dele, aplicando-lhes óleo e vinho. Depois, colocou aquele homem sobre o seu próprio animal, levou-o para uma hospedaria e tratou dele. 35 No dia seguinte, separou dois denários e os entregou ao hospedeiro, dizendo: "Cuide deste homem. E, se você gastar algo a mais, farei o reembolso quando eu voltar."

36 Então Jesus perguntou:

— Qual destes três lhe parece ter sido o próximo do homem que caiu nas mãos dos ladrões?

37 O intérprete da Lei respondeu:

— O que usou de misericórdia para com ele.

Então Jesus lhe disse:

— Vá e faça o mesmo.

38 Quando eles seguiam viagem, Jesus entrou numa aldeia. E certa mulher, chamada Marta, hospedou-o na sua casa. 39 Marta tinha uma irmã, chamada Maria, que, assentada aos pés do Senhor, ouvia o seu ensino. 40 Marta agitava-se de um lado para outro, ocupada em muitos serviços. Então se aproximou de Jesus e disse:

— O Senhor não se importa com o fato de minha irmã ter deixado que eu fique sozinha para servir? Diga-lhe que venha me ajudar.

41 Mas o Senhor respondeu:

— Marta! Marta! Você anda inquieta e se preocupa com muitas coisas, 42 mas apenas uma é necessária. Maria escolheu a boa parte, e esta não lhe será tirada.
