1 OR su al presente, ricchi, piangete, urlando per le miserie vostre, che sopraggiungono.
2 Le vostre ricchezze son marcite, e i vostri vestimenti sono stati rosi dalle tignuole.
3 L’oro e l’argento vostro è arrugginito e la lor ruggine sarà in testimonianza contro a voi, e divorerà le vostre carni, a guisa di fuoco; voi avete fatto un tesoro per gli ultimi giorni.
4 Ecco, il premio degli operai che hanno mietuti i vostri campi, del quale sono stati frodati da voi, grida; e le grida di coloro che hanno mietuto sono entrate nelle orecchie del Signor degli eserciti.
5 Voi siete vissuti sopra la terra in delizie e morbidezze; voi avete pasciuti i cuori vostri, come in giorno di solenne convito.
6 Voi avete condannato, voi avete ucciso il giusto; egli non vi resiste.
7 ORA dunque, fratelli, siete pazienti fino alla venuta del Signore; ecco, il lavoratore aspetta il prezioso frutto della terra con pazienza, finchè quello abbia ricevuta la pioggia della prima e dell’ultima stagione.
8 Siate ancor voi pazienti; raffermate i cuori vostri; perciocchè l’avvenimento del Signore è vicino.
9 Non sospirate gli uni contro agli altri, fratelli; acciocchè non siate giudicati; ecco il giudice è alla porta.
10 Fratelli miei, prendete per esempio d’afflizione e di pazienza, i profeti, i quali hanno parlato nel Nome del Signore.
11 Ecco, noi predichiamo beati coloro che hanno sofferto; voi avete udita la pazienza di Giobbe, ed avete veduto il fine del Signore; poichè il Signore è grandemente pietoso e misericordioso
12 Ora, innanzi ad ogni cosa, fratelli miei, non giurate nè per lo cielo, nè per la terra; nè fate alcun altro giuramento; anzi sia il vostro sì, sì, il no, no; acciocchè non cadiate in giudicio.
13 Evvi alcun di voi afflitto? ori; evvi alcuno d’animo lieto? salmeggi.
14 È alcuno di voi infermo? chiami gli anziani della chiesa, ed orino essi sopra lui, ungendolo d’olio, nel nome del Signore.
15 E l’orazione della fede salverà il malato, e il Signore lo rileverà; e s’egli ha commessi de’ peccati, gli saranno rimessi.
16 Confessate i falli gli uni agli altri, ed orate gli uni per gli altri, acciocchè siate sanati; molto può l’orazione del giusto, fatta con efficacia.
17 Elia era uomo sottoposto a medesime passioni come noi, e pur per orazione richiese che non piovesse, e non piovve sopra la terra lo spazio di tre anni e sei mesi.
18 E di nuovo egli pregò, e il cielo diè della pioggia, e la terra produsse il suo frutto.
19 Fratelli, se alcun di voi si svia dalla verità, ed alcuno lo converte;
20 sappia colui, che chi avrà convertito un peccatore dall’error della sua via, salverà un’anima da morte, e coprirà moltitudine di peccati
1 Go to now, ye rich, weep, howling over your miseries that {are} coming upon {you}.
2 Your wealth is become rotten, and your garments moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver is eaten away, and their canker shall be for a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have heaped up treasure in {the} last days.
4 Behold, the wages of your labourers, who have harvested your fields, wrongfully kept back by you, cry, and the cries of those that have reaped are entered into the ears of {the} Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived luxuriously on the earth and indulged yourselves; ye have nourished your hearts {as} in a day of slaughter;
6 ye have condemned, ye have killed the just; he does not resist you.
7 Have patience, therefore, brethren, till the coming of the Lord. Behold, the labourer awaits the precious fruit of the earth, having patience for it until it receive {the} early and {the} latter rain.
8 *Ye* also have patience: stablish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is drawn nigh.
9 Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye be not judged. Behold, the judge stands before the door.
10 Take {as} an example, brethren, of suffering and having patience, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of {the} Lord.
11 Behold, we call them blessed who have endured. Ye have heard of the endurance of Job, and seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is full of tender compassion and pitiful.
12 But before all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay, that ye do not fall under judgment.
13 Does any one among you suffer evil? let him pray. Is any happy? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call to {him} the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of {the} Lord;
15 and the prayer of faith shall heal the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he be one who has committed sins, it shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess therefore your offences to one another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. {The} fervent supplication of the righteous {man} has much power.
17 Elias was a man of like passions to us, and he prayed with prayer that it should not rain; and it did not rain upon the earth three years and six months;
18 and again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth caused its fruit to spring forth.
19 My brethren, if any one among you err from the truth, and one bring him back,
20 let him know that he that brings back a sinner from {the} error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.
