Isaías 46

1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. 2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.*46.2 themselves: Heb. their soul

3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: 4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like? 6 They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. 7 They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. 8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.*46.11 that…: Heb. of my counsel

12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

1 Bel s’est incliné sur ses genoux ; Nébo est renversé, leurs faux dieux ont été mis sur des bêtes, et sur les juments ; les idoles que vous portiez ont été chargées, elles ont été un faix aux bêtes lassées. 2 Elles se sont courbées, elles se sont inclinées sur leurs genoux ensemble, et n’ont pu éviter d’être chargées, elles-mêmes sont allées en captivité. 3 Maison de Jacob, écoutez-moi, et vous, tout le résidu de la maison d’Israël, dont je me suis chargé dès le ventre, et qui avez été portés dès la matrice. 4 Je serai le même jusques à votre vieillesse, et je vous chargerai sur moi jusques à votre blanche vieillesse ; je l’ai fait, et je vous porterai encore, je vous chargerai sur moi, et je vous délivrerai. 5 A qui me compareriez-vous, et à qui m’égaleriez-vous ? et a qui me feriez-vous ressembler, pour dire que nous fussions semblables ? 6 Ils tirent l’or de la bourse, et pèsent l’argent à la balance, et louent un orfèvre pour en faire un Dieu ; ils l’adorent, et se prosternent devant lui. 7 On le porte sur les épaules, on s’en charge, on le pose en sa place, où il se tient debout, et ne bouge point de son lieu ; puis on criera à lui, mais il ne répondra point, et il ne délivrera point de leur détresse ceux qui crieront à lui. 8 Souvenez-vous de cela, et reprenez courage, voustransgresseurs, et revenez à votre sens. 9 Souvenez-vous des premières choses qui ont été autrefois : car c’est moi qui suis le Dieu Fort, et il n’y a point d’autre Dieu, et il n’y a rien qui soit semblable à moi. 10 Qui déclare dès le commencement la fin, et longtemps auparavant les choses qui n’ont point encore été faites ; qui dis ; Mon conseil tiendra, et je mettrai en exécution tout mon bon plaisir. 11 Qui appelle d’Orient l’oiseau de proie, et d’une terre éloignée un homme qui exécutera mon conseil. Ai-je parlé, aussi ferai-je venir la chose ; je l’ai formée, aussi la mettrai-je en effet. 12 Ecoutez-moi, vous qui avez le cœur endurci, et qui êtes éloignés de la justice. 13 J’ai fait approcher ma justice, elle ne s’éloignera point, et ma délivrance ne tardera point ; je mettrai la délivrance en Sion pour Israël, qui est ma gloire.
