1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) 3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; 10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; 12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. 14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

1 Paulo, servo de Cristo Jesus, chamado para ser apóstolo, separado para o evangelho de Deus, 2 o qual ele prometeu previamente por meio dos seus profetas nas Escrituras Sagradas, 3 acerca do seu Filho, que, segundo a natureza humana, era descendente de Davi 4 e que, mediante o Espírito* de santidade, foi declarado com poder Filho de Deus pela sua ressurreição dentre os mortos: Jesus Cristo, o nosso Senhor. 5 Por meio dele, recebemos graça e apostolado para chamar todos os gentios à obediência da fé por causa do seu nome. 6 E vocês também estão entre os chamados para pertencerem a Jesus Cristo.

7 A todos os que estão em Roma, amados de Deus, chamados para serem santos:

Graça e paz a vocês da parte de Deus, o nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.

8 Primeiramente, dou graças ao meu Deus, por meio de Jesus Cristo, por todos vocês, porque a fé de vocês é proclamada em todo o mundo. 9 Deus, a quem sirvo de todo o coração pregando o evangelho do seu Filho, é minha testemunha de como constantemente me lembro de vocês 10 nas minhas orações; peço que agora, pela vontade de Deus, finalmente me seja aberto o caminho para que eu possa visitar vocês.

11 Anseio vê‑los, a fim de compartilhar algum dom espiritual para fortalecê‑los, 12 isto é, para que vocês e eu sejamos mutuamente encorajados pela fé. 13 Não quero que sejam ignorantes, irmãos, quanto ao fato de que muitas vezes planejei visitá‑los para colher algum fruto entre vocês, como também entre outros gentios,* mas fui impedido até o presente momento.

14 Sou devedor tanto a gregos como a bárbaros,* tanto a sábios como a ignorantes. 15 Por isso, estou disposto a pregar o evangelho também a vocês que estão em Roma.

16 Não me envergonho do evangelho, porque é o poder de Deus para a salvação de todo aquele que crê: primeiro, do judeu e, depois, do grego. 17 Porque no evangelho é revelada a justiça de Deus, uma justiça que do princípio ao fim é pela fé,* como está escrito: "O justo viverá pela fé".*

18 Portanto, a ira de Deus é revelada dos céus contra toda impiedade e injustiça dos homens que suprimem a verdade pela injustiça, 19 pois o que de Deus se pode conhecer é revelado entre eles, porque Deus lhes revelou. 20 Pois, desde a criação do mundo, os atributos invisíveis de Deus — o seu eterno poder e a sua natureza divina — têm sido vistos claramente, sendo compreendidos por meio das coisas criadas, de forma que tais homens são indesculpáveis; 21 porque, tendo conhecido a Deus, não o glorificaram como Deus nem lhe renderam graças. Pelo contrário, os seus pensamentos tornaram‑se fúteis, e o coração insensato deles se obscureceu. 22 Embora eles afirmem ser sábios, tornaram‑se tolos 23 e trocaram a glória do Deus imortal por imagens feitas à semelhança do homem mortal, bem como de aves, quadrúpedes e répteis.

24 Por isso, Deus os entregou à impureza sexual, aos desejos do coração deles, para desonrarem o corpo deles entre si. 25 Trocaram a verdade de Deus pela mentira, adorando e servindo à criatura, em lugar do Criador, que é bendito para sempre. Amém.

26 Por causa disso, Deus os entregou a paixões vergonhosas. Até as mulheres trocaram a relação sexual natural por outra contrária à natureza. 27 Da mesma forma, os homens também, tendo deixado a relação sexual natural com a mulher, se inflamaram em desejo uns pelos outros. Homens com homens cometeram atos vergonhosos e receberam em si mesmos o castigo merecido pela sua perversão.

28 Além do mais, visto que desprezaram o conhecimento de Deus, o próprio Deus os entregou a uma disposição mental reprovável, para praticarem o que não deviam. 29 Tornaram‑se cheios de toda sorte de injustiça, maldade, cobiça e depravação. Estão cheios de inveja, homicídio, rivalidades, engano e malícia. São bisbilhoteiros, 30 caluniadores, inimigos de Deus, insolentes, arrogantes e presunçosos; inventam maneiras de praticar o mal; desobedecem aos pais; 31 são insensatos, desleais, insensíveis, sem misericórdia. 32 Embora conheçam o justo decreto de Deus, de que as pessoas que praticam tais coisas merecem a morte, não somente continuam a praticá‑las, mas também aprovam aqueles que as praticam.
