Ce même jour-là Jésus étant sorti de la maison, s'assit près de la mer. 
Et de grandes troupes s'assemblèrent autour de lui, c'est pourquoi il monta dans une nacelle, et s'assit, et toute la multitude se tenait sur le rivage. 
Et il leur parla de plusieurs choses par des similitudes, en disant : voici, un semeur sortit pour semer. 
Et comme il semait, une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin, et les oiseaux vinrent, et la mangèrent toute. 
Et une autre partie tomba dans des lieux pierreux, où elle n'avait guère de terre, et aussitôt elle leva, parce qu'elle n'entrait pas profondément dans la terre. 
Et le soleil s'étant levé, elle fut brûlée; et parce qu'elle n'avait point de racine, elle sécha. 
Et une autre partie tomba entre des épines; et les épines montèrent, et l'étouffèrent. 
Et une autre partie tomba dans une bonne terre, et rendit du fruit, un grain [en rendit] cent, un autre, soixante, et un autre, trente. 
Qui a des oreilles pour ouïr, qu'il entende. 
Alors les Disciples s'approchant lui dirent : pourquoi leur parles-tu par des similitudes? 
Il répondit, et leur dit : c'est parce qu'il vous est donné de connaître les mystères du Royaume des cieux, et que, pour eux, il ne leur est point donné [de les connaître]. 
Car à celui qui a, il sera donné, et il aura encore plus; mais à celui qui n'a rien, cela même qu'il a lui sera ôté. 
C'est pourquoi je leur parle par des similitudes, à cause qu'en voyant ils ne voient point, et qu'en entendant ils n'entendent point, et ne comprennent point. 
Et [ainsi] s'accomplit en eux la prophétie d'Esaïe, qui dit : en entendant vous ne comprendrez point; et en voyant vous verrez, et vous n'apercevrez point. 
Car le cœur de ce peuple est engraissé, et ils ont ouï dur de leurs oreilles, et ont cligné de leurs yeux; de peur qu'ils ne voient des yeux, et qu'ils n'entendent des oreilles, et qu'ils ne comprennent du cœur, et ne se convertissent, et que je ne les guérisse. 
Mais vos yeux sont bienheureux, car ils voient; et, vos oreilles sont [bienheureuses], car elles entendent. 
Car en vérité je vous dis, que plusieurs Prophètes et plusieurs justes ont désiré de voir les choses que vous voyez, et ils ne les ont point vues; et d'ouïr les choses que vous entendez, et ils ne les ont point ouïes. 
Vous donc, écoutez [le sens de] la similitude du semeur. 
Quand un homme écoute la parole du Royaume, et ne la comprend point, le malin vient, et ravit ce qui est semé dans son cœur; et c'est là celui qui a reçu la semence auprès du chemin. 
Et celui qui a reçu la semence dans des lieux pierreux, c'est celui qui écoute la parole, et qui la reçoit aussitôt avec joie; 
Mais il n'a point de racine en lui-même, c'est pourquoi il n'est qu'à temps; de sorte que dès que l'affliction ou la persécution survienne à cause de la parole, il est aussitôt scandalisé. 
Et celui qui a reçu la semence entre les épines, c'est celui qui écoute la parole de Dieu, mais l'inquiétude pour les choses de ce monde, et la tromperie des richesses étouffent la parole, et elle devient infructueuse. 
Mais celui qui a reçu la semence dans une bonne terre, c'est celui qui écoute la parole, et qui la comprend; et porte du fruit, et produit, l'un cent, l'autre soixante, et l'autre trente. 
Il leur proposa une autre similitude, en disant : le Royaume des cieux ressemble à un homme qui a semé de la bonne semence dans son champ. 
Mais pendant que les hommes dormaient, son ennemi est venu, qui a semé de l'ivraie parmi le blé, puis s'en est allé. 
Et après que la semence fut venue en herbe, et qu'elle eut porté du fruit, alors aussi parut l'ivraie. 
Et les serviteurs du père de famille vinrent à lui, et lui dirent : Seigneur, n'as-tu pas semé de la bonne semence dans ton champ? d'où vient donc qu'il y a de l'ivraie? 
Mais il leur dit : c'est l'ennemi qui a fait cela. Et les serviteurs lui dirent : veux-tu donc que nous y allions, et que nous cueillions l'ivraie? 
Et il leur dit : non; de peur qu'il n'arrive qu'en cueillant l'ivraie, vous n'arrachiez le blé en même temps. 
Laissez-les croître tous deux ensemble, jusqu'à la moisson; et au temps de la moisson, je dirai aux moissonneurs : cueillez premièrement l'ivraie, et la liez en faisceaux pour la brûler; mais assemblez le blé dans mon grenier. 
Il leur proposa une autre similitude, en disant : le Royaume des cieux est semblable au grain de semence de moutarde que quelqu'un a pris et semé dans son champ. 
Qui est bien la plus petite de toutes les semences; mais quand il est crû, il est plus grand que les autres plantes, et devient un arbre; tellement que les oiseaux du ciel y viennent, et font leurs nids dans ses branches. 
Il leur dit une autre similitude : le Royaume des cieux est semblable au levain qu'une femme prend, et qu'elle met parmi trois mesures de farine, jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit toute levée. 
Jésus dit toutes ces choses aux troupes en similitudes, et il ne leur parlait point sans similitudes; 
Afin que fût accompli ce dont il avait été parlé par le Prophète, en disant : j'ouvrirai ma bouche en similitudes; je déclarerai les choses qui ont été cachées dès la fondation du monde. 
Alors Jésus ayant laissé les troupes, s'en alla à la maison, et ses Disciples vinrent à lui, et lui dirent : explique-nous la similitude de l'ivraie du champ. 
Et il leur répondit et dit : celui qui sème la bonne semence, c'est le Fils de l'homme; 
Et le champ, c'est le monde; la bonne semence ce sont les enfants du Royaume, et l'ivraie ce sont les enfants du malin; 
Et l'ennemi qui l'a semée, c'est le diable; la moisson, c'est la fin du monde, et les moissonneurs sont les Anges. 
Comme donc on cueille l'ivraie, et on la brûle au feu, il en sera de même à la fin de ce monde. 
Le Fils de l'homme enverra ses Anges, qui cueilleront de son Royaume tous les scandales, et ceux qui commettent l'iniquité; 
Et les jetteront dans la fournaise du feu; là il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents. 
Alors les justes reluiront comme le soleil dans le Royaume de leur Père. Qui a des oreilles pour ouïr, qu'il entende. 
Le Royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un trésor caché dans un champ, lequel un homme ayant trouvé, l'a caché; puis de la joie qu'il en a, il s'en va, et vend tout ce qu'il a, et achète ce champ. 
Le Royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un marchand qui cherche de bonnes perles; 
Et qui ayant trouvé une perle de grand prix, s'en est allé, et a vendu tout ce qu'il avait, et l'a achetée. 
Le Royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un filet jeté dans la mer, et amassant toutes sortes de choses; 
Lequel étant plein, les pêcheurs le tirent en haut sur le rivage, puis s'étant assis, ils mettent ce qu'il y a de bon à part dans leurs vaisseaux, et jettent dehors ce qui ne vaut rien. 
Il en sera de même à la fin du monde, les Anges viendront, et sépareront les méchants d'avec les justes; 
Et les jetteront dans la fournaise du feu; là il y aura des pleurs, et des grincements de dents. 
Jésus leur dit : avez-vous compris toutes ces choses? Ils lui répondirent : oui, Seigneur. 
Et il leur dit : c'est pour cela que tout Scribe qui est bien instruit pour le Royaume des cieux, est semblable à un père de famille qui tire de son trésor des choses nouvelles, et des choses anciennes. 
Et quand Jésus eut achevé ces similitudes, il partit de là. 
Et étant venu en son pays, il les enseignait dans leur Synagogue, de telle sorte qu'ils en étaient étonnés, et disaient : d'où viennent à celui-ci cette science et ces vertus? 
Celui-ci n'est-il pas le fils du charpentier? sa mère ne s'appelle-t-elle pas Marie? et ses frères [ne s'appellent-ils pas] Jacques, Joses, Simon et Jude? 
Et ses sœurs ne sont-elles pas toutes parmi nous? D'où viennent donc à celui-ci toutes ces choses? 
Tellement qu'ils étaient scandalisés en lui. Mais Jésus leur dit : un Prophète n'est sans honneur que dans son pays, et dans sa maison. 
Et il ne fit là guère de miracles, à cause de leur incrédulité. 

On that day Jesus went out of the house and was seated by the seaside. 
And great numbers of people came together to him, so that he got into a boat; and the people took up their position by the sea. 
And he gave them teaching in the form of a story, saying, A man went out to put seed in the earth; 
And while he did so, some seeds were dropped by the wayside, and the birds came and took them for food: 
And some of the seed went among the stones, where it had not much earth, and straight away it came up because the earth was not deep: 
And when the sun was high, it was burned; and because it had no root it became dry and dead. 
And some seeds went among thorns, and the thorns came up and they had no room for growth: 
And some, falling on good earth, gave fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much. 
He who has ears, let him give ear. 
And the disciples came and said to him, Why do you say things to them in the form of stories? 
And he said to them in answer, To you is given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 
Because whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have more; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 
For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them. 
And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you: 
For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well. 
But a blessing be on your eyes, because they see; and on your ears, because they are open. 
For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not. 
Give ear, then, to the story of the man who put the seed in the earth. 
When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside. 
And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy; 
But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts. 
And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit. 
And the seed which was put in good earth, this is he who gives ear to the word, and gets the sense of it; who gives fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much. 
And he gave them another story, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who put good seed in his field: 
But while men were sleeping, one who had hate for him came and put evil seeds among the grain, and went away. 
But when the green stem came up and gave fruit, the evil plants were seen at the same time. 
And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Sir, did you not put good seed in your field? how then has it evil plants? 
And he said, Someone has done this in hate. And the servants say to him, Is it your pleasure that we go and take them up? 
But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them. 
Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house. 
He put another story before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his field: 
Which is smaller than all seeds; but when it has come up it is greater than the plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and make their resting-places in its branches. 
Another story he gave to them: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and put in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened. 
All these things Jesus said to the people in the form of stories; and without a story he said nothing to them: 
That it might come true which was said by the prophet, Opening my mouth, I will give out stories; I will give knowledge of things kept secret from before all time. 
Then he went away from the people, and went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Make clear to us the story of the evil plants in the field. 
And he made answer and said, He who puts the good seed in the earth is the Son of man; 
And the field is the world; and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom; and the evil seeds are the sons of the Evil One; 
And he who put them in the earth is Satan; and the getting in of the grain is the end of the world; and those who get it in are the angels. 
As then the evil plants are got together and burned with fire, so will it be in the end of the world. 
The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will take out of his kingdom everything which is a cause of error, and all those who do wrong, 
And will put them into the fire; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow. 
Then will the upright be shining as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him give ear. 
The kingdom of heaven is like a secret store of wealth in a field, which a man came across and put back again; and in his joy he goes and gives all he has, to get that field. 
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a trader searching for beautiful jewels. 
And having come across one jewel of great price, he went and gave all he had in exchange for it. 
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, which was put into the sea and took in every sort of fish: 
When it was full, they took it up on the sands; and seated there they put the good into vessels, but the bad they put away. 
So will it be in the end of the world: the angels will come and take out the bad from the good, 
And will put them into the fire: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow. 
Are all these things now clear to you? They say to him, Yes. 
And he said to them, For this reason every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house, who gives out from his store things new and old. 
And when Jesus had come to the end of these stories he went away from there. 
And coming into his country, he gave them teaching in their Synagogue, so that they were greatly surprised and said, Where did this man get this wisdom and these works of power? 
Is not this the woodworker's son? is not his mother named Mary? and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 
And his sisters, are they not all with us? from where, then, has he all these things? 
And they were bitter against him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is nowhere without honour but in his country and among his family. 
And the works of power which he did there were small in number because they had no faith.
