1 Depois Jesus começou a falar-lhes por parábola:

— Um homem plantou uma vinha. Pôs uma cerca em volta dela, construiu um lagar, edificou uma torre e arrendou a vinha a uns lavradores. Depois, ausentou-se do país. 2 No tempo da colheita, mandou um servo para que recebesse dos lavradores a sua parte dos frutos da vinha. 3 Mas os lavradores o agarraram, espancaram e o despacharam de mãos vazias. 4 De novo, enviou-lhes outro servo, e eles bateram na cabeça dele e o insultaram. 5 Mandou ainda outro servo, e a este mataram. Muitos outros lhes enviou, dos quais espancaram uns e mataram outros.

6 — Restava-lhe ainda um: o seu filho amado. Por fim, mandou o filho, pensando: "O meu filho eles respeitarão." 7 Mas os tais lavradores disseram entre si: "Este é o herdeiro; venham, vamos matá-lo, e a herança será nossa." 8 E, agarrando o filho, mataram-no e o lançaram fora da vinha.

9 — Que fará, pois, o dono da vinha? Virá, exterminará aqueles lavradores e entregará a vinha a outros. 10 Vocês ainda não leram este trecho da Escritura:

"A pedra que os construtores

rejeitaram,

essa veio a ser a pedra angular.

11 Isto procede do Senhor

e é maravilhoso

aos nossos olhos"?

12 E procuravam prender Jesus, porque entenderam que ele havia contado essa parábola contra eles; mas temiam o povo. Então eles o deixaram e foram embora.

13 E enviaram a Jesus alguns dos fariseus e dos herodianos, para que o apanhassem em alguma palavra. 14 Chegando, disseram-lhe:

— Mestre, sabemos que o senhor é verdadeiro e não se importa com a opinião dos outros, porque não olha a aparência das pessoas, mas, segundo a verdade, ensina o caminho de Deus; é lícito pagar imposto a César ou não? Devemos ou não devemos pagar?

15 Mas Jesus, percebendo a hipocrisia deles, respondeu:

— Por que vocês estão me pondo à prova? Tragam-me um denário para que eu o veja.

16 Eles trouxeram. E Jesus lhes perguntou:

— De quem é esta figura e esta inscrição?

Eles responderam:

— De César.

17 Então Jesus disse:

— Deem a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus.

E muito se admiraram dele.

18 Então alguns saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, aproximaram-se de Jesus e lhe perguntaram:

19 — Mestre, Moisés nos deixou escrito que, se um homem morrer e deixar mulher sem filhos, o irmão desse homem deve casar com a viúva e gerar descendentes para o falecido. 20 Havia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou e morreu sem deixar filhos; 21 o segundo casou com a viúva e morreu, também sem deixar descendência; e o terceiro, da mesma forma. 22 E, assim, os sete não deixaram descendência. Por fim, depois de todos, morreu também a mulher. 23 Na ressurreição, quando eles ressuscitarem, de qual deles ela será a esposa? Porque os sete casaram com ela.

24 Jesus respondeu:

— Será que o erro de vocês não está no fato de não conhecerem as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus? 25 Pois, quando ressuscitarem dentre os mortos, nem casarão, nem se darão em casamento, mas serão como os anjos nos céus. 26 Quanto aos mortos, que eles de fato ressuscitam, vocês nunca leram no Livro de Moisés, no trecho referente à sarça, como Deus lhe falou: "Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó"? 27 Ele não é Deus de mortos, e sim de vivos. Vocês estão completamente enganados.

28 Chegando um dos escribas, que ouviu a discussão entre eles e viu que Jesus tinha dado uma boa resposta, perguntou-lhe:

— Qual é o principal de todos os mandamentos?

29 Jesus respondeu:

— O principal é: "Escute, ó Israel, o Senhor, nosso Deus, é o único Senhor! 30 Ame o Senhor, seu Deus, de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma, de todo o seu entendimento e com toda a sua força." 31 O segundo é: "Ame o seu próximo como você ama a si mesmo." Não há outro mandamento maior do que estes.

32 Então o escriba disse:

— Muito bem, Mestre! E com verdade o senhor disse que ele é o único, e não há outro além dele, 33 e que amar a Deus de todo o coração e de todo o entendimento e com todas as forças e amar o próximo como a si mesmo é mais do que todos os holocaustos e sacrifícios.

34 Vendo Jesus que o escriba havia respondido sabiamente, declarou-lhe:

— Você não está longe do Reino de Deus.

E ninguém mais ousava fazer perguntas a Jesus.

35 Jesus, ensinando no templo, perguntou:

— Como dizem os escribas que o Cristo é filho de Davi? 36 O próprio Davi falou, pelo Espírito Santo:

"Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor:

‘Sente-se à minha direita,

até que eu ponha os seus inimigos

debaixo dos seus pés.’"

37 — O próprio Davi chama o Cristo de Senhor; então como ele pode ser filho de Davi?

E a grande multidão o ouvia com prazer.

38 E, ao ensinar, Jesus dizia:

— Cuidado com os escribas, que gostam de andar com vestes talares e das saudações nas praças; 39 buscam as primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas e os primeiros lugares nos banquetes; 40 devoram as casas das viúvas e, para o justificar, fazem longas orações. Estes sofrerão juízo muito mais severo.

41 Sentado diante da caixa de ofertas, Jesus observava como o povo lançava ali o dinheiro. Ora, muitos ricos depositavam grandes quantias. 42 Vindo, porém, uma viúva pobre, lançou duas pequenas moedas correspondentes a um quadrante. 43 E, chamando os seus discípulos, Jesus disse:

— Em verdade lhes digo que esta viúva pobre lançou na caixa de ofertas mais do que todos os ofertantes. 44 Porque todos eles deram daquilo que lhes sobrava; ela, porém, da sua pobreza deu tudo o que possuía, todo o seu sustento.

1 And he began to speak to them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set up a hedge, and dug a winevat, and built a tower, and leased it to farmers, and went on a journey.2 And at the season he sent forth a bondman to the farmers, so that he might receive by the farmers from the fruit of the vineyard.3 And having seized him, they beat him, and sent him away empty.4 And again he sent another bondman to them. And that man, having stoned, they wounded in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.5 And again he sent another, and that man they killed, and many others, beating some, and killing some.6 Therefore, still having his one beloved son, he also sent him to them, last, saying, They will be made ashamed by my son.7 But those farmers said among themselves, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.8 And having taken him, they killed him, and cast him outside of the vineyard.9 What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.10 And have ye not read this scripture: The stone that those who build rejected, this came to be into the head of the corner.11 This happened from Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes?12 And they sought to seize him. And they feared the multitude, for they knew that he spoke the parable against them. And having left him, they went away.13 And they send some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to him, so that they might catch him in talk.14 And when they came, they say to him, Teacher, we have seen that thou are true, and it is not a care to thee about any man, for thou look not to a personage of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it permitted to give tribute15 Should we give, or should we not give? But Jesus, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why do ye test me? Bring me a denarius, so that I may see it.16 And they brought it. And he says to them, Whose is this image and inscription? And they said to him, Caesar's.17 And having answered, Jesus said to them, Render the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God. And they marveled at him.18 And Sadducees come to him, who say there is no resurrection. And they questioned him, saying,19 Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If a man's brother dies, and leaves behind a wife, and leaves no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.20 There were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.21 And the second took her, and died, neither did he leave seed behind, and the third likewise.22 And the seven took her, and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.23 In the resurrection when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her as wife.24 And having answered, Jesus said to them, Are ye not led astray because of this: not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God?25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as agents in the heavens.26 But about the dead, that they rise, have ye not read in the book of Moses, how God spoke to him at the bush, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?27 He is not the God of the dead, but God of the living. Ye therefore are much misled.28 And one of the scholars having come, having heard them disputing, knowing that he had answered them well, he questioned him, Which is the first commandment of all?29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, thou Israel, Lord our God is one Lord,30 and thou shall love Lord thy God from thy whole heart, and from thy whole soul, and from thy whole mind, and from thy whole strength. This is the first commandment.31 And this second is similar, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.32 And the scholar said to him, Well, teacher. Thou spoke in truth that he is one, and there is no other but he.33 And to love him from the whole heart, and from the whole understanding, and from the whole soul, and from the whole strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.34 And when Jesus saw him, that he answered wisely, he said to him, Thou are not far from the kingdom of God. And no man dared to question him any more.35 And having responded as he taught in the temple, Jesus said, How do the scholars say that the Christ is the son of David?36 For David himself said by Holy Spirit, The Lord says to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand until I may place thine enemies a footstool of thy feet.37 David himself therefore calls him Lord, and in what way is he his son? And the great multitude heard him gladly.38 And in his teaching he said to them, Look away from the scholars, those who desire to go about in long robes, and salutations in the marketplaces,39 and chief seats in the synagogues, and places of honor at the feasts,40 those who devour widows' houses, and praying long in pretence. These will receive greater condemnation.41 And having sat down opposite the treasury, Jesus watched how the multitude cast money into the treasury, and many rich men cast in much.42 And one poor widow having come, she cast in two mites, which are a quadrans.43 And having summoned his disciples, he says to them, Truly I say to you, that this poor widow cast in more than all those who are casting into the treasury.44 For they all cast in from that which is abundant to them, but she from her need cast in all, as many things she had, her whole living.
