1 Deus disse a Moisés:

— Subam para junto do Senhor, você, Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e setenta dos anciãos de Israel; e adorem de longe. 2 Só Moisés se aproximará do Senhor; os outros não se aproximarão, nem o povo subirá com ele.

3 Moisés foi e transmitiu ao povo todas as palavras do Senhor e todos os estatutos. Então todo o povo respondeu a uma voz e disse:

— Tudo o que o Senhor falou nós faremos.

4 Moisés escreveu todas as palavras do Senhor e, tendo-se levantado de manhã cedo, edificou um altar ao pé do monte e ergueu doze colunas, segundo as doze tribos de Israel. 5 E enviou alguns jovens dos filhos de Israel, os quais ofereceram ao Senhor holocaustos e sacrifícios pacíficos de novilhos. 6 Moisés pegou a metade do sangue e o pôs em bacias; e a outra metade aspergiu sobre o altar. 7 Depois pegou o livro da aliança e o leu para o povo. E eles disseram:

— Tudo o que o Senhor falou nós faremos e obedeceremos.

8 Então Moisés pegou aquele sangue, e o aspergiu sobre o povo, e disse:

— Eis aqui o sangue da aliança que o Senhor fez com vocês de acordo com todas estas palavras.

9 Moisés, Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e setenta dos anciãos de Israel subiram o monte. 10 E viram o Deus de Israel, sob cujos pés havia como que uma pavimentação de pedra de safira, que se parecia com o céu na sua claridade. 11 Deus não estendeu a mão contra os escolhidos dos filhos de Israel; eles viram Deus, comeram e beberam.

12 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Suba para junto de mim, no monte, e fique lá; darei a você tábuas de pedra, a lei e os mandamentos que escrevi, para que você ensine o povo.

13 Moisés se aprontou, juntamente com Josué, seu auxiliar, e subiu o monte de Deus. 14 Ele disse aos anciãos:

— Esperem aqui até que voltemos para junto de vocês. Eis que Arão e Hur ficam com vocês; quem tiver alguma questão deve se dirigir a eles.

15 Tendo Moisés subido, uma nuvem cobriu o monte. 16 E a glória do Senhor pousou sobre o monte Sinai, e a nuvem o cobriu durante seis dias. No sétimo dia, do meio da nuvem o Senhor chamou Moisés. 17 Aos olhos dos israelitas, o aspecto da glória do Senhor era como um fogo consumidor no alto do monte. 18 E Moisés, entrando pelo meio da nuvem, subiu o monte; e lá permaneceu quarenta dias e quarenta noites.

1 And he said unto Moses, Come up unto Jehovah, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off: 2 and Moses alone shall come near unto Jehovah; but they shall not come near; neither shall the people go up with him. 3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of Jehovah, and all the ordinances: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which Jehovah hath spoken will we do. 4 And Moses wrote all the words of Jehovah, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the mount, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt-offerings, and sacrificed peace-offerings of oxen unto Jehovah. 6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that Jehovah hath spoken will we do, and be obedient. 8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which Jehovah hath made with you concerning all these words.

9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. 10 And they saw the God of Israel; and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and as it were the very heaven for clearness. 11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: and they beheld God, and did eat and drink.

12 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee the tables of stone, and the law and the commandment, which I have written, that thou mayest teach them. 13 And Moses rose up, and Joshua his minister: and Moses went up into the mount of God. 14 And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: whosoever hath a cause, let him come near unto them. 15 And Moses went up into the mount, and the cloud covered the mount. 16 And the glory of Jehovah abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 And the appearance of the glory of Jehovah was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18 And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
