1 E eu mesmo, Paulo, peço a vocês, pela mansidão e bondade de Cristo — eu que, na verdade, quando estou com vocês, sou humilde, mas, quando ausente, sou ousado para com vocês —, 2 sim, eu peço que não me obriguem a ser ousado, quando estiver com vocês, servindo-me daquela firmeza com que penso que devo tratar alguns que nos julgam como se andássemos segundo a carne. 3 Porque, embora andemos na carne, não lutamos segundo a carne. 4 Porque as armas da nossa luta não são carnais, mas poderosas em Deus, para destruir fortalezas. Destruímos raciocínios falaciosos 5 e toda arrogância que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e levamos cativo todo pensamento à obediência de Cristo. 6 E estaremos prontos para punir qualquer desobediência, quando a obediência de vocês estiver completa.

7 Observem o que está evidente. Se alguém confia em si que é de Cristo, pense outra vez consigo mesmo que, assim como ele é de Cristo, também nós o somos. 8 Porque, se eu me gloriar um pouco mais a respeito da nossa autoridade, a qual o Senhor nos conferiu para edificação e não para destruição de vocês, não me envergonharei. 9 Não quero que pareça ser meu objetivo intimidar vocês por meio de cartas. 10 Alguns dizem: "As cartas são graves e fortes, mas a presença pessoal dele é fraca e a sua palavra é desprezível." 11 Que tal pessoa leve em conta o seguinte: o que somos na palavra por cartas, estando ausentes, seremos também em ações, quando presentes. 12 Porque não ousamos nos classificar ou comparar com alguns que louvam a si mesmos. Mas eles, medindo-se consigo mesmos e comparando-se consigo mesmos, revelam falta de entendimento.

13 Nós, porém, não nos gloriaremos além da medida, mas respeitamos o limite da esfera de ação que Deus nos demarcou e que se estende até vocês. 14 Porque não ultrapassamos os nossos limites como se não devêssemos chegar até vocês, pois já chegamos até vocês com o evangelho de Cristo. 15 Não nos gloriamos além da medida no trabalho que outros fizeram, mas temos a esperança de que, à medida que cresce a fé que vocês têm, seremos cada vez mais engrandecidos entre vocês, dentro da nossa esfera de ação, 16 a fim de anunciar o evangelho para além das fronteiras em que vocês se encontram, sem com isto nos gloriarmos de coisas já realizadas na esfera de ação de outros.

17 Aquele, porém, que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor. 18 Porque não é aprovado quem recomenda a si mesmo, e sim aquele que o Senhor recomenda.

1 Moreover, I, Paul, myself, exhort you, through the meekness and considerateness of the Christ,I who, to look upon, indeed, am lowly toward you, but, absent, am bold towards you;

2 I entreat, however, that, when present, I may not be bold with the assurance wherewith I think to be daring against some who account of us as though, according to flesh, we were walking,

3 For, though, in flesh, we walk, not, according to flesh, do we war,

4 For, the weapons of our warfare, are not fleshly, but mighty, by God, unto a pulling down of strongholds,

5 When we pull down, calculations, and every height that uplifteth itself against the knowledge of God, and when we bring into captivity every thought unto the obedience of the Christ,

6 And when we hold ourselves, in readiness, to avenge all disobedience, as soon as your obedience shall be fulfilled!

7 The things that lie on the surface, ye are looking at:if anyone hath come to trust in himself that he is, Christs, this, let him reckon, again, with himselfthat, even as, he, is Christs, so, also are, we.

8 Yea, if, somewhat more abundantly, I should boast concerning our authoritywhich the Lord hath given for building up and not for pulling you down, I shall not be put to shame,

9 That I may not seem as though I would be terrifying you through means of my letters;

10 Because, The letters, it is true (saith one), are weighty and strong, but, the presence of the body, is weak, and, the discourse, contemptible;

11 This, let such a one reckonthat, what we are, in our word, through means of letters, being absent, such, also, being present, are we, in our deed.

12 For we dare not class or compare ourselves with some who do, themselves, commend; but, they, among themselves, measuring, themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without discernment!

13 We, however, not as to the things without measure, will boast ourselves, but, according to the measure of the limit which God apportioned unto us, as a measureto reach as far as even you!

14 For, not as though we were not reaching unto you, are we over-stretching ourselves, for, as far as even you, were we beforehand in the glad-message of the Christ:

15 Not, as to the things without measure, boasting ourselves in other mens toils, but having, hopeyour faith, growingamong you, to be enlarged, according to our limit for something beyond,

16 Unto the regions beyond you, to carry the glad-message: not, within another mans limit, as to the things made ready, to boast ourselves.

17 He that boasteth, however, in the Lord, let him boast;

18 For, not he that commendeth himself, he, is approved, but he whom, the Lord, doth commend.
