Abijah King of Judah
1 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah15:1 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Septuagint (see also 2 Chron. 12:16); most Hebrew manuscripts Abijam; also in verses 7 and 8 became king of Judah, 2 and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.15:2 A variant of Absalom; also in verse 10
3 He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. 4 Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. 5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.
6 There was war between Abijah15:6 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac Abijam (that is, Abijah); most Hebrew manuscripts Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime. 7 As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. 8 And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.
Asa King of Judah
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah, 10 and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.
11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done. 12 He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made. 13 He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 14 Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life. 15 He brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.
16 There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns. 17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent them to Ben-Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 19 "Let there be a treaty between me and you," he said, "as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me."
20 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali. 21 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah. 22 Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa built up Geba in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.
23 As for all the other events of Asa’s reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased. 24 Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.
Nadab King of Israel
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit.
27 Baasha son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it. 28 Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.
29 As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam’s whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the Lord given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. 30 This happened because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel.
31 As for the other events of Nadab’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel? 32 There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.
Baasha King of Israel
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
O reinado de Abias, rei de Judá
1 No décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, Abias tornou-se rei de Judá 2 e reinou três anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele chamava-se Maaca e era filha de Absalão.
3 Ele cometeu todos os pecados que o seu pai tinha cometido; o seu coração não era inteiramente consagrado ao Senhor, o seu Deus, quanto fora o coração do seu antepassado Davi. 4 No entanto, por amor a Davi, o Senhor, o seu Deus, concedeu-lhe uma lâmpada em Jerusalém, dando-lhe um filho como sucessor e fortalecendo Jerusalém. 5 Pois Davi fizera o que é justo aos olhos do Senhor e não deixara de obedecer a nenhum dos mandamentos do Senhor durante todos os dias da sua vida, exceto no caso de Urias, o hitita.
6 Durante toda a vida de Abias, houve guerra entre os descendentes de Roboão e os de Jeroboão. 7 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Abias, e tudo o que realizou, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Judá. Também houve guerra entre Abias e Jeroboão. 8 Abias descansou com os seus antepassados e foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, e Asa, o seu filho, sucedeu-o como rei.
O reinado de Asa, rei de Judá
9 No vigésimo ano do reinado de Jeroboão, rei de Israel, Asa tornou-se rei de Judá 10 e reinou quarenta e um anos em Jerusalém. A avó dele chamava-se Maaca e era filha de Absalão.
11 Asa fez o que é justo aos olhos do Senhor, tal como o seu antepassado Davi. 12 Expulsou do país os prostitutos cultuais e removeu todos os ídolos que o seu pai havia feito. 13 Chegou até a depor Maaca, a sua avó, da posição de rainha-mãe, pois ela havia feito uma imagem repugnante da deusa Aserá. Asa derrubou a imagem e a queimou no vale do Cedrom. 14 Embora os santuários locais não tenham sido removidos, o coração de Asa foi totalmente dedicado ao Senhor durante toda a sua vida. 15 Ele trouxe para o templo do Senhor a prata, o ouro e os utensílios que ele e o seu pai haviam consagrado.
16 Houve guerra entre Asa e Baasa, rei de Israel, durante todo o reinado deles. 17 Baasa, rei de Israel, atacou Judá e fortificou Ramá para que ninguém pudesse entrar no território de Asa, rei de Judá, nem sair de lá.
18 Então, Asa ajuntou a prata e o ouro que haviam sobrado no tesouro do templo do Senhor e do seu próprio palácio. Confiou tudo isso aos seus oficiais e os enviou a Ben-Hadade, filho de Tabrimom e neto de Heziom, rei de Arã, que governava em Damasco, 19 com a seguinte mensagem: "Façamos um tratado, como fizeram o meu pai e o teu. Estou te enviando como presente prata e ouro. Agora rompe o tratado que tens com Baasa, rei de Israel, para que ele saia do meu país".
20 Ben-Hadade aceitou a proposta do rei Asa e ordenou aos comandantes dos seus exércitos que atacassem as cidades de Israel. Ele conquistou Ijom, Dã, Abel-Bete-Maaca e todo o Quinerete, além de toda a terra de Naftali. 21 Quando Baasa soube disso, abandonou a construção de Ramá e foi para Tirza. 22 Então, o rei Asa convocou todos os homens de Judá — sem exceção —, e eles retiraram de Ramá as pedras e a madeira que Baasa havia usado. Com esse material, o rei Asa edificou Geba, em Benjamim, e também Mispá.
23 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Asa, todas as suas conquistas, tudo o que realizou e todas as cidades que construiu, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Judá. Na velhice, Asa sofreu uma doença nos pés 24 e, quando descansou com os seus antepassados, foi sepultado junto deles na Cidade de Davi, o seu antepassado, e Josafá, o seu filho, sucedeu-o como rei.
O reinado de Nadabe, rei de Israel
25 Nadabe, filho de Jeroboão, tornou-se rei de Israel no segundo ano do reinado de Asa, rei de Judá, e reinou dois anos sobre Israel. 26 Fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, andando nos caminhos do seu pai e no pecado que ele tinha levado Israel a cometer.
27 Baasa, filho de Aías, da tribo de Issacar, conspirou contra ele, e o matou na cidade filisteia de Gibetom, enquanto Nadabe e todo o exército de Israel a sitiavam. 28 Baasa matou Nadabe no terceiro ano do reinado de Asa, rei de Judá, e reinou em seu lugar.
29 Assim que começou a reinar, matou toda a família de Jeroboão. Dos pertencentes a Jeroboão, não deixou ninguém vivo; destruiu todos, de acordo com a palavra do Senhor anunciada pelo seu servo, o silonita Aías. 30 Isso aconteceu por causa dos pecados que Jeroboão cometera e havia feito Israel cometer, e porque ele tinha provocado a ira do Senhor, o Deus de Israel.
31 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Nadabe, e tudo o que realizou, constam nos registros históricos dos reis de Israel. 32 Houve guerra entre Asa e Baasa, rei de Israel, durante todo o reinado deles.
O reinado de Baasa, rei de Israel
33 No terceiro ano do reinado de Asa, rei de Judá, Baasa, filho de Aías, tornou-se rei de todo o Israel, em Tirza, e reinou vinte e quatro anos. 34 Fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, andando nos caminhos de Jeroboão e no pecado que ele tinha levado Israel a cometer.
