Proverbs 9

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly

1 Wisdom has built her house;

she has set up*9:1 Septuagint, Syriac and Targum; Hebrew has hewn out its seven pillars.

2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;

she has also set her table.

3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls

from the highest point of the city,

4 "Let all who are simple come to my house!"

To those who have no sense she says,

5 "Come, eat my food

and drink the wine I have mixed.

6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;

walk in the way of insight."

7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;

whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.

8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;

rebuke the wise and they will love you.

9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;

teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

11 For through wisdom*9:11 Septuagint, Syriac and Targum; Hebrew me your days will be many,

and years will be added to your life.

12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;

if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

13 Folly is an unruly woman;

she is simple and knows nothing.

14 She sits at the door of her house,

on a seat at the highest point of the city,

15 calling out to those who pass by,

who go straight on their way,

16 "Let all who are simple come to my house!"

To those who have no sense she says,

17 "Stolen water is sweet;

food eaten in secret is delicious!"

18 But little do they know that the dead are there,

that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.

Os convites da sabedoria e da insensatez

1 A sabedoria construiu a sua casa,

lavrou as suas sete colunas.

2 Preparou sua carne para a refeição,

misturou o seu vinho e arrumou a sua mesa.

3 Enviou suas servas e clamará

desde o ponto mais alto da cidade:

4 "Venham todos os ingênuos!".

Aos que não têm juízo, ela diz:

5 "Venham comer a minha comida

e beber o vinho que misturei.

6 Deixem a ingenuidade, e vocês terão vida;

andem pelo caminho do entendimento.

7 "Quem corrige o zombador traz sobre si o insulto;

quem repreende o ímpio mancha o próprio nome.

8 Não repreenda o zombador,

caso contrário ele o odiará;

repreenda o sábio, e ele o amará.

9 Instrua o sábio, e ele será ainda mais sábio;

ensine o justo, e ele aumentará o seu saber.

10 "O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria,

e o conhecimento do Santo é entendimento.

11 Porque por meu intermédio os seus dias serão multiplicados,

e anos serão acrescentados à sua vida.

12 Se você for sábio, a sabedoria será a sua recompensa;

se for zombador, sofrerá as consequências sozinho".

13 A insensatez é uma mulher barulhenta;

é ingênua e não sabe nada.

14 Sentada à porta da sua casa,

numa cadeira, no ponto mais alto da cidade,

15 clama aos que passam por ali

seguindo firmemente em seu caminho:

16 "Venham todos os ingênuos!".

Aos que não têm juízo, ela diz:

17 "A água roubada é doce,

e o pão que se come escondido é saboroso!".

18 Eles, porém, nem imaginam que ali estão os espíritos dos mortos,

que os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do Sheol.*9.18 Essa palavra também pode ser traduzida por morte.
