   1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.*34.1 all that…: Heb. the fulness thereof 2 For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. 3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. 4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

2. ESV English Standard Version

   1 Draw near, *Ps. 49:1;[Joel 3:1,2]O nations, to hear,

   and give attention, O peoples!

   Let the earth hear, and all that fills it;

   the world, and all that comes from it.

   2 For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,

   and furious against all their host;

   he has *[Josh. 6:21]devoted them to destruction,*34:2 That is, set apart (devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction); also verse 5 has given them over for slaughter.

   3 Their slain shall be cast out,

   and *Joel 2:20the stench of their corpses shall rise;

   *[Ezek. 39:4]the mountains shall flow with their blood.

   like leaves falling from the fig tree.

3. NLT New Living Translation

   1 Come here and listen, O nations of the earth.

   Let the world and everything in it hear my words.

   2 For the Lord is enraged against the nations.

   His fury is against all their armies.

   He will completely destroy*34:2 The Hebrew term used here refers to the complete consecration of things or people to the Lord, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering; similarly in 34:5. them,

   dooming them to slaughter.

   3 Their dead will be left unburied,

   and the stench of rotting bodies will fill the land.

   The mountains will flow with their blood.

   4 The heavens above will melt away

   and disappear like a rolled-up scroll.

   The stars will fall from the sky

   like withered leaves from a grapevine,

   or shriveled figs from a fig tree.

   1 Come near, ye Gentiles, and hear, and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein, the world, and every thing that cometh forth of it. 2 For the indignation of the Lord if upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath killed them, and delivered them to slaughter. 3 Their slain shall be cast forth, and out of their carcasses shall rise a slink: the mountains shall be melted with their blood. 4 And all the host of the heavens shall pine away, and the heavens shall be folded together as a book: and all their host shall fall down as the leaf falleth from the vine, and from the fig tree.

8. MSG The Message

   1 Draw in close now, nations. Listen carefully,

   you people. Pay attention!

   Earth, you, too, and everything in you.

   World, and all that comes from you.

   2-4 And here’s why: God is angry,

   good and angry with all the nations,

   So blazingly angry at their arms and armies

   that he’s going to rid earth of them, wipe them out.

   The corpses, thrown in a heap,

   will stink like the town dump in midsummer,

   Their blood flowing off the mountains

   like creeks in spring runoff.

   Stars will fall out of the sky

   like overripe, rotting fruit in the orchard,

   And the sky itself will be folded up like a blanket

   and put away in a closet.

   All that army of stars, shriveled to nothing,

   like leaves and fruit in autumn, dropping and rotting!
