2. NIV New International Version

   1 To humans belong the plans of the heart,

   but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.

   2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them,

   but motives are weighed by the Lord.

   3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do,

   and he will establish your plans.

   9 In their hearts humans plan their course,

   but the Lord establishes their steps.

   25 There is a way that appears to be right,

   but in the end it leads to death.

   33 The lot is cast into the lap,

   but its every decision is from the Lord.

7. DRA Douay-Rheims American 1899

   1 It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue. 2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits. 3 Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed. 9 The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps. 25 There is a way that seemeth to a man right: and the ends thereof lead to death. 33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are disposed of by the Lord.

8. MSG The Message

   1 Mortals make elaborate plans,

   but God has the last word.

   2 Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good;

   God probes for what is good.

   3 Put God in charge of your work,

   then what you’ve planned will take place.

   9 We plan the way we want to live,

   but only God makes us able to live it.

   25 There’s a way that looks harmless enough;

   look again—it leads straight to hell.

   33 Make your motions and cast your votes,

   but God has the final say.
