1 Então em resposta Jó disse:
2 "Sem dúvida, vocês são a voz do povo,
e, quando morrerem, não haverá mais sabedoria…
3 Mas eu também entendo as coisas
e não sou menos do que vocês.
Quem não sabe isso que vocês disseram?
4 "Sou motivo de riso para os meus amigos —
eu, que sou honesto, que estou inocente;
eu, que orava a Deus, e ele me respondia.
5 Os que estão seguros desprezam os desgraçados
e empurram os que estão para cair.
6 Os bandidos têm paz em suas casas,
os que ofendem a Deus vivem tranquilos,
embora o seu deus seja a sua própria força.
7 "Zofar, faça perguntas às aves e aos animais,
e eles o ensinarão.
8 Peça aos bichos da terra e aos peixes do mar,
e eles lhe darão lições.
9 Todas essas criaturas sabem
que foi a mão do Senhor que as fez.
10 A vida de todas as criaturas está na mão de Deus;
é ele quem mantém todas as pessoas com vida.
11 Meus amigos, assim como os ouvidos julgam o valor das palavras,
e o paladar prova os alimentos,
assim escuto o que vocês dizem,
mas só aceito aquilo que acho certo.
12 "Os velhos são sábios,
pois a idade traz a compreensão.
13 No entanto, Deus é sábio e poderoso;
ele tem inteligência e entendimento.
14 Ninguém pode reconstruir o que Deus derruba;
e, se ele prende, ninguém pode soltar.
15 Quando Deus segura a chuva, vem a seca;
quando deixa saírem as águas, há enchentes.
16 "Deus é forte e vitorioso;
ele tem poder tanto sobre o enganado como sobre o enganador.
17 Ele tira das autoridades a sabedoria
e faz com que os líderes percam o juízo.
18 Deus tira os reis dos seus tronos
e os põe na prisão.
19 Deus afasta os sacerdotes do seu ofício;
ele derruba os que estão no poder.
20 Deus faz calarem conselheiros de confiança
e acaba com a sabedoria dos idosos.
21 Ele mostra desprezo pelas autoridades
e acaba com a força dos poderosos.
22 Deus revela os segredos escondidos nas trevas
e faz a luz brilhar na escuridão mais completa.
23 Deus dá às nações grandeza e poder,
mas depois as derrota e destrói.
24 Ele faz com que os líderes das nações percam o juízo
e os leva por desertos sem caminhos.
25 Eles andam na escuridão, às cegas,
tropeçando como bêbados.
1 Then responded Job, and said:
2 Of a truth, ye, are the people, and, with you, wisdom, will die.
3 I also, have a mind like you, I, fall not short, of you, But who hath not such things as these?
4 A laughing-stock to ones neighbour, do I become, one who hath called upon GOD and he hath answered him! A laughing-stocka righteous man without blame!
5 For ruin, there is contempt, in the thought of the man at ease,ready, for such as are of faltering foot!
6 At peace are the tents that belong to the spoilers, and there is security to them who provoke GOD, To him who bringeth a god in his hand.
7 But, in very deed, ask, I pray thee, the beasts, and they will teach thee, and the bird of the heavens, and it will tell thee;
8 Or address the earth, and it will teach thee, and the fishes of the sea, will recount it to thee:
9 Who knoweth not, among all these, that, the hand of Yahweh, hath done this?
10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the spirit of all the flesh of men.
11 Doth not, the ear, try, words? even as, the palate, tasteth for itself, food?
12 In the Ancient, is wisdom, and Length of Days, understanding:
13 With Him, are wisdom and strength, to Him, pertain counsel and understanding.
14 Lo! He pulleth down, and it cannot be built, He closeth up over a man, and it cannot be opened:
15 Lo! He holdeth back the waters, and they dry up, or sendeth them out, and they transform the earth:
16 With Him, is strength and effective wisdom, to Him, belong he that erreth, and he that causeth to err.
17 Who leadeth away counsellors a spoil, and, judges, He befooleth:
18 The fetters of kings, He looseth, or hath bound a slaves waistcloth about their loins:
19 Who leadeth away priests a spoil, and, men firmly seated, He overturneth:
20 Setting aside the speech of the trusty, and, the discernment of elders, He taketh away:
21 Pouring contempt upon nobles, and, the girdle of the mighty, hath He loosed:
22 Laying open deep things, out of darkness, and bringing out to light, the death-shade:
23 Who giveth greatness to nations, or destroyeth them, Who spreadeth out nations, or leadeth them into exile:
24 Who taketh away the sense of the chiefs of the people of the earth, and hath caused them to wander in a pathless waste:
25 They grope about in the dark, having no light, and He hath made them to reel, like a drunken man.
