1 No segundo ano do reinado de Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz, em Israel, Amazias, filho de Joás, se tornou rei de Judá. 2 Quando isso aconteceu, Amazias tinha vinte e cinco anos. Ele governou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. A mãe dele se chamava Jeoadã e era da cidade de Jerusalém. 3 Amazias fez o que é agradável a Deus, o Senhor, porém não foi tão correto como o seu antepassado, o rei Davi; pelo contrário, fez aquilo que o seu pai Joás havia feito. 4 Ele não derrubou os lugares pagãos de adoração, e o povo continuou a oferecer sacrifícios e a queimar incenso nesses lugares.

5 Assim que se firmou no poder, Amazias mandou matar os oficiais que haviam assassinado o seu pai, o rei. 6 No entanto, não matou os filhos deles, mas seguiu o que o Senhor havia mandado na Lei de Moisés: "Os pais não serão mortos por causa de crimes cometidos pelos filhos, nem os filhos, por causa de crimes cometidos pelos pais; uma pessoa será morta somente como castigo pelo crime que ela mesma cometeu."

7 No vale do Sal, Amazias matou dez mil soldados do país de Edom; ele conquistou na guerra a cidade de Selá e pôs nela o nome de Jocteel, e assim é conhecida até hoje.

8 Então Amazias mandou mensageiros ao rei Jeoás, de Israel, desafiando-o para uma batalha. 9 Mas o rei Jeoás respondeu assim:

— Uma vez um espinheiro dos montes Líbanos mandou a seguinte mensagem para um cedro: "Dê a sua filha em casamento para o meu filho." Mas um animal selvagem passou por ali e pisou em cima do espinheiro. 10 De fato, você, Amazias, venceu os edomitas e por isso está todo orgulhoso. Alegre-se com a sua fama e fique em casa. Para que arranjar um problema que trará somente a desgraça para você e para o seu povo?

11 Mas Amazias não quis atendê-lo. Então o rei Jeoás saiu com os seus soldados e lutou contra ele em Bete-Semes, na região de Judá. 12 O exército de Amazias foi derrotado, e todos os seus soldados fugiram para casa. 13 Jeoás prendeu Amazias em Bete-Semes, avançou para Jerusalém e derrubou as muralhas da cidade desde o Portão de Efraim até o Portão da Esquina, um trecho de mais ou menos duzentos metros. 14 Ele pegou toda a prata e todo o ouro que achou, pegou todos os objetos do Templo e todos os tesouros do palácio e também levou reféns. E voltou para Samaria.

15 Todas as outras coisas que Jeoás fez e também a sua coragem na batalha contra o rei Amazias, de Judá, estão escritas na História dos Reis de Israel. 16 Jeoás morreu e foi sepultado nos túmulos dos reis, em Samaria, e o seu filho Jeroboão II ficou no lugar dele como rei.

17 O rei Amazias, de Judá, viveu quinze anos depois da morte do rei de Israel, Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz. 18 Todas as outras coisas que Amazias fez estão escritas na História dos Reis de Judá.

19 Houve uma conspiração em Jerusalém para matar Amazias, e por isso ele fugiu para a cidade de Laquis; mas os seus inimigos o seguiram até lá e o mataram. 20 O seu corpo foi levado de volta para Jerusalém num cavalo e foi sepultado nos túmulos dos reis, na Cidade de Davi. 21 Então o povo pôs no seu lugar como rei o seu filho Uzias , que tinha dezesseis anos de idade. 22 Depois da morte do seu pai, Uzias reconquistou e construiu de novo a cidade de Elate.

23 No ano quinze do reinado de Amazias, filho de Joás, em Judá, Jeroboão II, filho de Jeoás, se tornou rei de Israel e governou quarenta e um anos em Samaria. 24 Jeroboão II fez coisas erradas, que não agradam a Deus, o Senhor. Não abandonou aqueles mesmos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, havia feito o povo de Israel cometer no passado. 25 Jeroboão II conquistou de novo todo o território que havia sido de Israel, desde a subida de Hamate, no Norte, até o mar Morto, no Sul. O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, havia prometido isso por meio do seu servo, o profeta Jonas, filho de Amitai, que era de Gate-Hefer.

26 O Senhor Deus viu o terrível sofrimento dos israelitas; não havia ninguém, ninguém mesmo, que os ajudasse. 27 Mas o Senhor não tinha a intenção de destruir o povo de Israel completamente e para sempre; por isso, ele os livrou por meio do rei Jeroboão II.

28 Todas as outras coisas que Jeroboão II fez, o seu poder, como ele lutou e como conquistou de novo as cidades de Damasco e Hamate para Israel, tudo está escrito na História dos Reis de Israel. 29 Jeroboão II morreu e foi sepultado nos túmulos dos reis, e o seu filho Zacarias ficou no lugar dele como rei.

1 In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel, began Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

2 Twenty-five years old, was he when he began to reign, and twenty-nine years, reigned he in Jerusalem,and, his mothers name, was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, only, not like David his father: according to all that Joash his father did, so he did;

4 only, the high places, took they not away,still were the people sacrificing and burning incense in the high places.

5 And it came to pass that, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, he smote his servants who smote the king his father;

6 but, the sons of them that smote him, slew he not,as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh commanded, sayingFathers, shall not be put to death, for sons, nor shall, sons, be put to death, for fathers, but every man, for his own sin, shall be put to death.

7 He, smote Edom, in the valley of salt, ten thousand, and seized Sela, in the war,and called the name thereof Joktheel,

8 Then, sent Amaziah messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying,Come now, let us look one another in the face.

9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, A thistle that was in Lebanon, sent unto a cedar that was in Lebanon, sayingGive thy daughter to my son to wife,and there passed by a beast of the field that was in Lebanon, and trampled down the thistle:

10 Thou hast, smitten, Edom, and, thy heart, would lift thee up,Glory, and stay at home! Wherefore, then, shouldest thou contend with misfortune, and fall, thou, and Judah with thee?

11 But Amaziah hearkened not. So then Jehoash king of Israel came up, and they looked one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah,in Beth-shemesh, which belongeth unto Judah.

12 Then was Judah defeated before Israel,and they fled, every man to his own home;

13 and, upon Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, did Jehoash king of Israel, seize, in Beth-shemesh,and entered Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, at the gate of Ephraim, as far as the corner gate, four hundred cubits;

14 and took all the gold and the silver and all the vessels that were found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasuries of the house of the king, and hostages,and returned to Samaria.

16 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria, with the kings of Israel,and, Jeroboam his son, reigned, in his stead.

17 And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, lived, after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, fifteen years.

19 And, when they made against him a conspiracy in Jerusalem, he fled to Lachish,but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him, there.

20 And they bare him on horses,and he was buried in Jerusalem, with his fathers, in the city of David.

21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, he, being sixteen yearn old,and made, him, king instead of his father Amaziah.

22 He, built Elath, and restored it to Judah,after the king slept with his fathers.

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, began Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of a Israel, to reign in Samaria, forty-one years.

24 And he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh,he turned not away from any of the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he caused, Israel, to commit.

25 He, restored the boundary of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath, unto the sea of the waste plain,according to the word of Yahweh, God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

26 For Yahweh saw the humiliation of Israel, that it was bitter, indeed,and that there was no one shut up, nor any one left at large, no one indeed to help Israel.

27 Neither had Yahweh spoken, to wipe out the name of Israel from under the heavens,so he saved them, by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.

28 Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might when he warred, and how he restored Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, with the kings of Israel,and, Zechariah his son, reigned, in his stead.
