1 Então o rei Davi disse a toda a assembléia: "Meu filho Salomão, e só ele, foi quem Deus escolheu. Mas ele é jovem e inexperiente e a tarefa é grande, pois o palácio não será feito para homens, mas para o Senhor Deus.2 Forneci grande quantidade de recursos para o trabalho do templo do meu Deus: ouro, prata, bronze, ferro e madeira, bem como ônix para os engastes, e ainda turquesas, pedras de várias cores e todo tipo de pedras preciosas, e mármore.3 Além disso, pelo meu amor ao templo do meu Deus, agora entrego das minhas próprias riquezas, ouro e prata para o templo do meu Deus, além de tudo o que já tenho dado para este santo templo.4 Ofereço, pois, cento e cinco toneladas de ouro puro de Ofir e duzentos e quarenta e cinco toneladas de prata refinada, para o revestimento das paredes do templo,5 para o trabalho em ouro e em prata, e para todo o trabalho dos artesãos. Agora, quem hoje está disposto a ofertar dádivas ao Senhor? "6 Então os chefes das famílias, os líderes das tribos de Israel, os comandantes de mil e de cem, e os oficiais encarregados do trabalho do rei ofertaram espontaneamente.7 Para a obra do templo de Deus eles deram cento e setenta e cinco toneladas de ouro e dez mil moedas de ouro, trezentas e cinqüenta toneladas de prata, seiscentas e trinta toneladas de bronze e três mil e quinhentas toneladas de ferro.8 Quem tinha pedras preciosas deu-as para o depósito dos tesouros do templo do Senhor, cujo responsável era Jeiel, o gersonita.9 O povo alegrou-se diante da atitude de seus líderes, pois fizeram essas ofertas voluntariamente e de coração íntegro ao Senhor. E o rei Davi também encheu-se de alegria.10 Davi louvou o Senhor na presença de toda a assembléia, dizendo: "Bendito sejas, ó Senhor, Deus de Israel, nosso pai, de eternidade a eternidade.11 Teus, ó Senhor, são a grandeza, o poder, a glória, a majestade e o esplendor, pois tudo o que há nos céus e na terra é teu. Teu, ó Senhor, é o reino; tu estás acima de tudo.12 A riqueza e a honra vêm de ti; tu dominas sobre todas as coisas. Nas tuas mãos estão a força e o poder para exaltar e dar força a todos.13 Agora, nosso Deus, damos-te graças, e louvamos o teu glorioso nome.14 "Mas quem sou eu, e quem é o meu povo para que pudéssemos contribuir tão generosamente como fizemos? Tudo vem de ti, e nós apenas te demos o que vem das tuas mãos.15 Diante de ti somos estrangeiros e forasteiros, como os nossos antepassados. Os nossos dias na terra são como uma sombra, sem esperança.16 Ó Senhor, nosso Deus, toda essa riqueza que ofertamos para construir um templo em honra do teu santo nome vem das tuas mãos, e toda ela pertence a ti.17 Sei, ó meu Deus, que sondas o coração e que te agradas com a integridade. Tudo o que dei foi espontaneamente e com integridade de coração. E agora vi com alegria com quanta disposição o teu povo, que aqui está, tem contribuído.18 Ó Senhor, Deus de nossos antepassados Abraão, Isaque e Israel, conserva para sempre este desejo no coração de teu povo, e mantém o coração deles leal a ti.19 E dá ao meu filho Salomão um coração íntegro para obedecer aos teus mandamentos, aos teus preceitos e aos teus decretos, a fim de construir este templo para o qual fiz os preparativos necessários".20 Então Davi disse a toda a assembléia: "Louvem o Senhor, o seu Deus". E todos eles louvaram o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, inclinando-se e prostrando-se diante do Senhor e diante do rei.21 No dia seguinte fizeram sacrifícios ao Senhor e lhe apresentaram holocaustos: mil novilhos, mil carneiros e mil cordeiros, acompanhados de ofertas derramadas, e muitos outros sacrifícios, em favor de todo o Israel.22 Naquele dia, comeram e beberam com grande alegria na presença do Senhor. Então pela segunda vez proclamaram Salomão, filho de Davi, como rei, ungindo-o diante do Senhor como soberano, e Zadoque como sacerdote.23 De maneira que Salomão assentou-se como rei no trono do Senhor, em lugar de Davi, seu pai. Ele prosperou, e todo o Israel lhe obedecia.24 Todos os líderes e principais guerreiros, bem como todos os filhos do rei Davi prometeram submissão ao rei Salomão.25 O Senhor exaltou muitíssimo Salomão em todo o Israel e concedeu-lhe tal esplendor em seu reinado como nenhum rei de Israel jamais tivera.26 Davi, filho de Jessé, reinou sobre todo Israel.27 Ele reinou quarenta anos em Israel: sete anos em Hebrom e trinta e três em Jerusalém.28 Morreu em boa velhice, tendo desfrutado vida longa, riqueza e honra. Seu filho Salomão foi o seu sucessor.29 Os feitos do rei Davi, desde o início até o fim do seu reinado, estão escritos nos registros do vidente Samuel, do profeta Natã e do vidente Gade,30 incluindo os detalhes do seu reinado e do seu poder, e os acontecimentos relacionados a ele, com Israel e com os reinos das outras terras.

1 And David the king said to all the assembly, Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great, for the palace is not for man, but for LORD God.2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the [things of] gold, and the silver for the [things of] silver, and the brass for the [things of] brass, the iron for the [things of] iron, and wood for th3 Moreover also, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, seeing that I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,4 even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses,5 of gold for the [things of] gold, and of silver for the [things of] silver, and for all manner of work [to be made] by the hands of artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself this day to LORD?6 Then the rulers of the fathers, and the rulers of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king's work, offered willingly.7 And they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron a hundred thousand talents.8 And those with whom [precious] stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of LORD under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.9 Then the people rejoiced, because they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to LORD. And David the king also rejoiced with great joy.10 Therefore David praised LORD before all the assembly. And David said, Blessed be thou, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and on the earth [is thine]. Thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou are exalted as head above all.12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou rule over all. And in thy hand is power and might. And in thy hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all.13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name comes of thy hand, and is all thine own.17 I know also, my God, that thou try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. And now I have seen with joy thy people, who are present here, off18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart to thee.19 And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace [for thee], for which I have made provision.20 And David said to all the assembly, Now praise LORD your God. And all the assembly praised LORD, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and and did obeisance to LORD, and the king.21 And they sacrificed sacrifices to LORD, and offered burnt-offerings to LORD on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for22 and ate and drank before LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to LORD to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.24 And all the rulers, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves to Solomon the king.25 And LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.26 Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three [years] in Jerusalem.28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor. And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,30 with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
