1 O filho sábio acolhe a instrução do pai, mas o zombador não ouve a repreensão.2 Do fruto de sua boca o homem desfruta coisas boas, mas o que os infiéis desejam é violência.3 Quem guarda a sua boca guarda a sua vida, mas quem fala demais acaba se arruinando.4 O preguiçoso deseja e nada consegue, mas os desejos do diligente são amplamente satisfeitos.5 Os justos odeiam o que é falso, mas os ímpios trazem vergonha e desgraça.6 A retidão protege o homem íntegro, mas a impiedade derruba o pecador.7 Alguns fingem que são ricos e nada têm; outros fingem que são pobres, e têm grande riqueza.8 As riquezas de um homem servem de resgate para a sua vida, mas o pobre nunca recebe ameaças.9 A luz dos justos resplandece esplendidamente, mas a lâmpada dos ímpios apaga-se.10 O orgulho só gera discussões, mas a sabedoria está com os que tomam conselho.11 O dinheiro ganho com desonestidade diminuirá, mas quem o ajunta aos poucos terá cada vez mais.12 A esperança que se retarda deixa o coração doente, mas o anseio satisfeito é árvore de vida.13 Quem zomba da instrução pagará por ela, mas aquele que respeita o mandamento será recompensado.14 O ensino dos sábios é fonte de vida, e afasta o homem das armadilhas da morte.15 O bom entendimento conquista favor, mas o caminho do infiel é áspero.16 Todo homem prudente age com base no conhecimento, mas o tolo expõe a sua insensatez.17 O mensageiro ímpio cai em dificuldade, mas o enviado digno de confiança traz a cura.18 Quem despreza a disciplina cai na pobreza e na vergonha, mas quem acolhe a repreensão recebe tratamento honroso.19 O anseio satisfeito agrada a alma, mas o tolo detesta afastar-se do mal.20 Aquele que anda com os sábios será cada vez mais sábio, mas o companheiro dos tolos acabará mal.21 O infortúnio persegue o pecador, mas a prosperidade é a recompensa do justo.22 O homem bom deixa herança para os filhos de seus filhos, mas a riqueza do pecador é armazenada para os justos.23 A lavoura do pobre produz alimento com fartura, mas por falta de justiça ele o perde.24 Quem se nega a castigar seu filho não o ama; quem o ama não hesita em discipliná-lo.25 O justo come até satisfazer o apetite, mas os ímpios permanecem famintos.

1 A wise son [hears] his father's instruction, but a scoffer listens not to rebuke.2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth, but the soul of the treacherous, violence.3 He who guards his mouth keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.5 A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.6 Righteousness guards him who is upright in the way, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.7 There is he who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, [and] he who makes himself poor, yet [has] great wealth.8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hears no threatening.9 The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.10 Through pride a vain man causes contention, but wisdom is with the well-advised.11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished, but he who gathers by labor shall have increase.12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.13 He who despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who fears the commandment shall be rewarded.14 The law of a wise man is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.15 Good understanding gives favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard.16 Every prudent man works with knowledge, but a fool flaunts folly.17 A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador is health.18 Poverty and shame [are to] him who refuses correction, but he who regards reproof shall be honored.19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.20 Walk with wise men, and thou shall be wise. But the companion of fools shall smart for it.21 Evil pursues sinners, but the righteous shall be recompensed with good.22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.23 Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor, but there is [that is] consumed because of injustice.24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him chastens him promptly.25 A righteous man eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked shall want.
