Eclesiastes 5

Cumpra os seus votos

* 5.0 No texto hebraico, 5.1 corresponde a 4.17, e 5.2-20 corresponde a 5.1-19. 1 Quando for à casa de Deus, preste atenção no que você faz.*5.1 Hebraico: guarde os seus passos. Aproxime-se para ouvir em vez de oferecer sacrifício de tolos, que nem sequer sabem o mal que fazem.

2 Não abra a boca precipitadamente

nem se apresse no seu coração

para proferir alguma palavra diante de Deus.

Deus está nos céus,

e você está na terra;

por isso, sejam poucas as suas palavras.

3 Das muitas ocupações brotam os sonhos;

do muito falar nasce a prosa vã do tolo.

4 Quando você fizer um voto a Deus, cumpra-o sem demora, pois os tolos desagradam a Deus; cumpra o seu voto. 5 É melhor não fazer voto do que fazer e não cumprir. 6 Não permita que a sua boca o faça pecar nem diga ao mensageiro do templo:*5.6 O Texto Massorético não traz do templo. "O meu voto foi um engano". Por que irritar Deus com o que você diz e deixá-lo destruir o trabalho das suas mãos? 7 Em meio a tantos sonhos vazios e palavras inúteis, tema a Deus.

As riquezas são inúteis

8 Se você vir o pobre oprimido em uma província e reparar que lhe são negados o direito e a justiça, não fique surpreso, pois todo oficial é observado por alguém que ocupa posição superior, e sobre os dois há outros em posição ainda mais alta. 9 Todos se aproveitam da terra; até o rei lucra do campo.*5.9 Ou De toda forma, a terra terá vantagem se tiver um rei que zela pelos campos cultivados.

10 Quem ama o dinheiro jamais terá o suficiente;

quem ama as riquezas nunca ficará satisfeito com o que ganha.

Isso também é inútil!

11 Com o aumento dos bens,

multiplicam-se os que os consomem.

De que adianta tudo isso,

senão dar ao dono um pouco de alegria aos seus olhos?

12 O sono do trabalhador é doce,

quer coma pouco, quer coma muito;

no entanto, a fartura de um homem rico

não lhe dá tranquilidade para dormir.

13 Há um mal terrível que vi debaixo do sol:

riquezas acumuladas para a infelicidade de quem as possui

14 ou riquezas que se perdem em um mau negócio.

Quando o dono chegar a ter um filho,

nada restará para ser herdado.

15 O homem sai nu do ventre da sua mãe

e, como vem, assim ele vai.

De todo o trabalho em que se esforçou,

nada levará consigo.

16 Há também outro mal terrível:

como o homem vem, assim ele vai;

e qual é o proveito de todo o seu esforço

em busca do vento?

17 Todos os dias da sua vida, ele come nas trevas,

com grande frustração, doença e ira.

18 Eis o que observo ser uma coisa boa: comer, beber e desfrutar o resultado de todo o esforço que se faz debaixo do sol durante os poucos dias de vida que Deus lhe dá é algo agradável ao homem, pois esta é a porção que lhe cabe. 19 Além do mais, quando Deus concede riquezas e bens a alguém e o capacita a desfrutá-los, a aceitar a sua porção e a ser feliz no seu trabalho, isto é um presente de Deus. 20 Raramente, essa pessoa pensará na brevidade da sua vida, porque Deus a mantém ocupada com a alegria do coração.

1 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God; for to draw nigh to hear is better than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they know not that they do evil. 2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. 3 For a dream cometh with a multitude of business, and a fool’s voice with a multitude of words. 4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou vowest. 5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands? 7 For in the multitude of dreams there are vanities, and in many words: but fear thou God.

8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a province, marvel not at the matter: for one higher than the high regardeth; and there are higher than they. 9 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase: this also is vanity. 11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, save the beholding of them with his eyes? 12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much; but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt: 14 and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand. 15 As he came forth from his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. 16 And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that he laboreth for the wind? 17 All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he is sore vexed, and hath sickness and wrath.

18 Behold, that which I have seen to be good and to be comely is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, wherein he laboreth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for this is his portion. 19 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God. 20 For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
