1 Eliú prosseguiu:

2 "Você acha que isso é justo?

Pois você diz: ‘Serei absolvido por Deus’.*35.2 Ou ‘A minha justiça é maior que a de Deus’.

3 Contudo, você pergunta: ‘Que vantagem tenho eu,*35.3 Ou você tem.

e o que ganho se não pecar?’.

4 "Desejo responder a você e aos amigos

que estão com você.

5 Olhe para os céus e veja;

observe as nuvens, muito acima de você.

6 Se você pecar, em que isso afetará Deus?

Se os seus pecados forem muitos, em que isso o prejudicará?

7 Se você for justo, em que isso beneficiará Deus?

Ou o que ele receberá da sua mão?

8 A sua impiedade só afeta os homens, os seus semelhantes;

a sua justiça, os filhos dos homens.

9 "Os homens se lamentam sob fardos de opressão;

imploram que os libertem do braço dos poderosos.

10 Mas não há quem pergunte:

‘Onde está Deus, o meu Criador,

que, de noite, faz surgirem cânticos,

11 que nos ensina mais que aos animais da terra

e nos faz mais sábios que as*35.11 Ou ensina pelos animais da terra e nos faz sábios por meio das. aves dos céus?’.

12 Quando clamam, ele não responde,

por causa da arrogância dos ímpios.

13 Aliás, Deus não escuta a vã súplica que fazem;

o Todo-poderoso*35.13 Hebraico: Shadai. não lhes dá atenção.

14 Muito menos escutará ele

quando você diz que não o vê,

que a sua causa está diante dele

e que, portanto, você deve esperar por ele.

15 Escutará menos ainda se você diz

que a ira dele jamais castiga

e que ele não dá a mínima atenção à iniquidade.*35.15 Conforme alguns manuscritos da Septuaginta e a Vulgata. O significado dessa frase em hebraico é incerto.

16 Assim, Jó abre a boca para dizer palavras vãs;

em sua ignorância, multiplica palavras".

1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Thinkest thou this to be thy right,

Or sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God’s,

3 That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee?

And, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

4 I will answer thee,

And thy companions with thee.

5 Look unto the heavens, and see;

And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

6 If thou hast sinned, what effectest thou against him?

And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him?

Or what receiveth he of thy hand?

8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art;

And thy righteousness may profit a son of man.

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out;

They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

10 But none saith, Where is God my Maker,

Who giveth songs in the night,

11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth,

And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

12 There they cry, but none giveth answer,

Because of the pride of evil men.

13 Surely God will not hear an empty cry,

Neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 How much less when thou sayest thou beholdest him not,

The cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!

15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger,

Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity;

He multiplieth words without knowledge.
