Jó 40

1 Disse ainda o Senhor a Jó:

2 "Aquele que contende com o Todo-poderoso*40.2 Hebraico: Shadai. poderá repreendê-lo?

Que responda a Deus aquele que o acusa!".

3 Jó respondeu ao Senhor:

4 "Sou indigno; como posso te responder?

Ponho a mão sobre a minha boca.

5 Falei uma vez, mas não tenho resposta;

sim, duas vezes, mas não direi mais nada".

6 Então, o Senhor respondeu a Jó do meio da tempestade, dizendo:

7 "Prepare-se como homem;

eu farei perguntas, e você me responderá.

8 "Você vai pôr em dúvida a minha justiça?

Vai me condenar para justificar-se?

9 O seu braço é como o de Deus,

e a sua voz pode trovejar como a dele?

10 Adorne-se, então, de esplendor e glória

e vista-se de majestade e honra.

11 Derrame a fúria da sua ira;

olhe para todos os orgulhosos e lance-os por terra.

12 Sim, olhe para cada um deles e humilhe-os;

esmague os ímpios onde estiverem.

13 Enterre-os todos juntos no pó;

encubra o rosto deles no túmulo.

14 Então, eu mesmo reconhecerei

que a sua mão direita pode salvá-lo.

15 "Veja o Beemote*40.15 Grande animal de identificação desconhecida.

que criei quando criei você

e que come capim como o boi.

16 Que força ele tem nos lombos!

Que vigor nos músculos do ventre!

17 Ele enrijece a sua cauda*40.17 Ou tronco; ou ainda tromba. como o cedro;

os tendões das suas coxas são firmemente entrelaçados.

18 Os seus ossos são canos de bronze,

e os seus membros são varas de ferro.

19 Ele ocupa o primeiro lugar entre as obras de Deus.

No entanto, o seu Criador pode chegar a ele com a espada.

20 Os montes lhe oferecem tudo o que produzem,

e todos os animais selvagens brincam por perto.

21 Sob os lótus se deita,

oculto entre os juncos do brejo.

22 Os lótus o escondem à sua sombra;

os salgueiros junto ao regato o cercam.

23 Quando o rio se enfurece, ele não se abala;

ele se mantém calmo, mesmo que o Jordão atinja a sua boca.

24 Poderá alguém capturá-lo enquanto ele estiver olhando?

Ou em uma armadilha enganchá-lo pelo nariz?

1 Moreover Jehovah answered Job, and said,

2 Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty?

He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

3 Then Job answered Jehovah, and said,

4 Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer thee?

I lay my hand upon my mouth.

5 Once have I spoken, and I will not answer;

Yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.

6 Then Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7 Gird up thy loins now like a man:

I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8 Wilt thou even annul my judgment?

Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

9 Or hast thou an arm like God?

And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

10 Deck thyself now with excellency and dignity;

And array thyself with honor and majesty.

11 Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger;

And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.

12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low;

And tread down the wicked where they stand.

13 Hide them in the dust together;

Bind their faces in the hidden place.

14 Then will I also confess of thee

That thine own right hand can save thee.

15 Behold now, behemoth, which I made as well as thee;

He eateth grass as an ox.

16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins,

And his force is in the muscles of his belly.

17 He moveth his tail like a cedar:

The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

18 His bones are as tubes of brass;

His limbs are like bars of iron.

19 He is the chief of the ways of God:

He only that made him giveth him his sword.

20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food,

Where all the beasts of the field do play.

21 He lieth under the lotus-trees,

In the covert of the reed, and the fen.

22 The lotus-trees cover him with their shade;

The willows of the brook compass him about.

23 Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not;

He is confident, though a Jordan swell even to his mouth.

24 Shall any take him when he is on the watch,

Or pierce through his nose with a snare?
