1 Permanecerei no meu posto de sentinela
e tomarei posição sobre o baluarte;

A resposta do Senhor
2 Então, o Senhor me respondeu:
"Escreva claramente a visão em tábuas,
para que se leia facilmente.2.2 Ou para que todo que a ler corra.
3 Pois a visão aguarda um tempo designado;
ela fala do fim
e não falhará.
Ainda que demore, espere,
porque ela2.3 Ou Embora ele demore, espere por ele; porque ele. certamente virá
e não se atrasará.
4 "Veja, o ímpio está envaidecido,
e os seus desejos não são bons!
Mas o justo viverá por sua fé.2.4 Ou fidelidade.
5 De fato, o vinho é traiçoeiro,
e o ímpio é arrogante e não descansa.
Ele é voraz como a sepultura2.5 Hebraico: Sheol. Essa palavra também pode ser traduzida por profundezas ou morte.
e como a morte nunca se satisfaz.
Ele apanha para si todas as nações
e ajunta para si todos os povos.
6 "Acaso não zombarão todos esses povos dele com chacota e palavras de escárnio? Dirão:
" ‘Ai daquele que amontoa bens roubados
e enriquece mediante extorsão!
Até quando isso continuará assim?’.
7 Não se levantarão de repente os seus credores?
Não se despertarão os que o fazem tremer?
Agora, você se tornará vítima deles.
8 Porque você saqueou muitas nações,
todos os povos que restaram o saquearão.
Pois você derramou muito sangue humano
e cometeu violência contra a terra,
contra as cidades e todos os seus habitantes.
9 "Ai daquele que obtém lucros injustos para a sua casa,
para pôr seu ninho no alto
e escapar das garras do mal!
10 Você tramou a ruína de muitos povos,
envergonhando a sua própria casa e pecando contra a sua própria vida.
11 Pois a pedra clamará da parede,
e a viga responderá do madeiramento contra você.
12 "Ai daquele que edifica uma cidade com sangue
e a estabelece com injustiça!
13 Acaso não determinou o Senhor dos Exércitos
que o trabalho dos povos seja somente para satisfazer o fogo
e que as nações se afadiguem em vão?
14 Mas a terra se encherá do conhecimento da glória do Senhor,
como as águas cobrem o mar.
15 "Ai daquele que dá bebida ao seu próximo,
misturando-a com o seu furor, até que ele fique bêbado,
para contemplar a sua nudez.
16 Beba bastante vergonha em vez de glória!
Sim, beba você também e exponha-se!2.16 Os manuscritos do mar Morto, a Vulgata e a Versão Siríaca trazem e cambaleie.
A taça da mão direita do Senhor é dada a você;
desgraça cobrirá a sua glória.
17 A violência que você cometeu contra o Líbano o alcançará,
e você ficará apavorado com a matança que fez de animais.
Pois você derramou muito sangue humano
e cometeu violência contra a terra, contra as cidades e os seus habitantes.
18 "De que vale uma imagem feita por um escultor?
Ou um ídolo de metal que ensina mentiras?
Pois aquele que o faz confia na sua própria criação,
fazendo ídolos incapazes de falar.
19 Ai daquele que diz à madeira: ‘Desperte!’.
Ou à pedra silente: ‘Acorde!’.
Poderá o ídolo dar orientação?
Está coberto de ouro e prata,
mas não há fôlego dentro dele.
20 "O Senhor, porém, está no seu santo templo;
fique em silêncio diante dele toda a terra".

The Lord’s Answer
2 Then the Lord replied:
"Write down the revelation
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald2:2 Or so that whoever reads it may run with it.
3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time;
it speaks of the end
and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it;
it2:3 Or Though he linger, wait for him; / he will certainly come
and will not delay.
4 "See, the enemy is puffed up;
his desires are not upright—
but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness2:4 Or faith—
5 indeed, wine betrays him;
he is arrogant and never at rest.
Because he is as greedy as the grave
and like death is never satisfied,
he gathers to himself all the nations
and takes captive all the peoples.
6 "Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying,
" ‘Woe to him who piles up stolen goods
and makes himself wealthy by extortion!
How long must this go on?’
7 Will not your creditors suddenly arise?
Will they not wake up and make you tremble?
Then you will become their prey.
8 Because you have plundered many nations,
the peoples who are left will plunder you.
For you have shed human blood;
you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.
9 "Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain,
setting his nest on high
to escape the clutches of ruin!
10 You have plotted the ruin of many peoples,
shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.
11 The stones of the wall will cry out,
and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.
12 "Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed
and establishes a town by injustice!
13 Has not the Lord Almighty determined
that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire,
that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?
14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.
15 "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors,
pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk,
so that he can gaze on their naked bodies!
16 You will be filled with shame instead of glory.
Now it is your turn! Drink and let your nakedness be exposed2:16 Masoretic Text; Dead Sea Scrolls, Aquila, Vulgate and Syriac (see also Septuagint) and stagger!
The cup from the Lord’s right hand is coming around to you,
and disgrace will cover your glory.
17 The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you,
and your destruction of animals will terrify you.
For you have shed human blood;
you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.
18 "Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman?
Or an image that teaches lies?
For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation;
he makes idols that cannot speak.
19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’
Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’
Can it give guidance?
It is covered with gold and silver;
there is no breath in it."
20 The Lord is in his holy temple;
let all the earth be silent before him.
